I want to level a healer class and i would want to know if SCH is good right now, because i do want to level SMN after that healer class. Can a SCH give me info?

Ignore the doomsayers and try it. A lot of us (yes me too) are butthurt that it's not primarily a shielding class anymore, and more of an emergency heal type. In no way are we main-healers but we can make most situations that would be reactionary for the other healers proactive for ourselves. We hardly have to worry about damage while our DoTs tick, and our fairy is simply a glorified regen with some special effects. To have fun as a SCh you gotta look at the class as a whole rather than a walking turret with healbot.
SCH right now is better when the SB started. They were pretty weak at the start of SB casue they got hit with the bat on all fronts. With the new patch the add of misama to our kit again is really nice we needed another dot to help with our damage not saying it was bad but having only 2 real main dots and spamming broil 2 after just wasnt that great.
I think the abilities they touched up on some were okay and some should have been focused else where. like excog needed to be fixed in a way that still gave you something if it doesn't proc. Indom increase potency could have been directed towards adlo, succor or physick mainly either on adlo or physick, there potency just doesnt cut like the other healers main heals.
the fix to fay union and aetherflow trait was great but fairy still needs to be tuned a bit better and maybe increase the amount you gain on the fairy gauge because it takes to long to get and goes away really fast when used. so far they are walking towards the right direction in fixing the sch i hope.
ohh also they need to fix dissipation.
I still feel Scholar is presently the weakest healer overall, primarily because the sheer amount of damage from V4 makes White Mage wonderful. Once prog settles a bit, White Mage may be less dominate, though it's in a surprisingly good spot at the moment. All this being said, Scholar is far from weak, and can absolutely handle everything thrown its way. I know this sounds a bit cliche, however play whichever healer you're comfortable with. We've actually reached a point where one isn't noticeably lagging behind the other. You could even make a strong case for WHM/SCH, which was easiest the weakest comp before 4.05. I'd take a comfortable Scholar over an uncertain White Mage that switched any day.
SCH is fine, but I enjoy it less than I used to. Its playstyle is increasingly mirroring that of the other healers, and the two aspects of the Job that I enjoy most (barriers and pet management) have been consistently de-emphasized since the end of 2.x.
Putting aside for the moment questions of what was or wasn't OP, the fact remains that the faerie makes less of an impact and AST barriers are measurably superior.
TL;DR: SCH is fine, but it isn't the same. Your mileage may vary. Some people may even like it better now. *shrug*
Honestly, leveling my WHM and then SCH was like night and day.
Things my WHM found a minor nuisance were flat out nightmares on my SCH.
I'd find myself utilizing every available CD on my SCH just to try and make it thru without dying and considering that, unlike my WHM, my SCH was better geared at the onset of some of the encounters due to having my WHM's hand-me-downs, that's very problematic.
I didn't feel it immediately mind you. Up to 64, apart from getting used to the MP changes, I didn't believe any of the doom and gloom. Level 65 in Bardum's Mettle immediately changed my mind and soured my entire view of SCH to the views of the Doom and Gloomers. The Herculean pulls some tanks made were just too much for me to handle in most cases (note: this was prior to tank accessories with STR and tanks having 270 strength accessories in place instead of VIT gear.) The only times I'd be able to handle the pulls was with overgeared tanks that used CDs, else I'd just fail every time.
Fast forward to now, recent experience after the patch and don't notice much of a difference, apart from Excogitation being more helpful. I'm still using every CD available, spamming Lustrate like it's going out of season on large pulls, not feeling like anything has fundamentally changed except some QoL upgrades. It feels really bad to see my emergency heals needing to be used just get thru pulls my WHM just pulled off with ease.
Every healer is "good" right now, we just all of our individual niggling problems that we're all begging SE to fix. SCH happens to have more of those problems than anyone else, but they aren't really performance crippling - just annoying.
A full-pull Bardam's run is probably the worst thing you can base your opinion of a class on. Tanks who haven't upgraded past 270 get torn to shreds by small pulls in that dungeon. Healing a big pull with a poorly geared tank in that dungeon is incredibly hard. On my Bardam's run, the tank did big pulls and it was the hardest dungeon I've healed since the 2.x days before they started designing dungeons to limit how much you could pull at once.
It also sounds like you did this before the 4.05 SCH buffs, which really made a huge difference.
Back to the OP, all 3 healers are good. Go for whatever you like best.
I can't really speak much about comparison between SCH to WHM and AST since I only have SCH at 70, WHM at 50, and AST at 60(through jump potion, since AST is boring to level).
But I can say that compared to the other two healers from the bits I played, SCH is the most DPS oriented one. Sure, SCHs are/were "Mitigation healer", but thanks to that and the fairies, I feel that I have a lot more downtime compared to the other two healer class where I'll just wait for the shield/excogitation status to fall off before reapplying it, a time where I could just DPS by applying DoTs and spamming some Broil/Ruin before returning to healing and shielding.
Out of all the runs I did in Susanoo EX, I feel a significant difference in how fast we killed Susanoo when I was playing SCH compared to as a DRK or as a RDM.
While usually my party only managed to get Susanoo down to around 79-82% before the Sword Phase.
As SCH (with 5-10 iLv lower gears compared to the other two), I DPSed whenever I can, and the party always managed to get his HP down to 75-77%, no matter the composition.
Scholar: Relies more on amount of actions performed in between decent dps, healing, and pet management per minute. With a wide array of OGCD tools and utilities for most situations and decent mitigation for most situations.
White Mage: Multiple OGCD heals and potent GCD heals provide a great saftey net with awesome DPS options
Astrologian: Has Single, and party wide buffs that are RNG based but fairly reliable in getting something useful. While lacking in OGCD heals somewhat its GCD heals and shields are the most potent out of the three.
TL/DR: In terms of raw healing and damage WHM is the better. In terms of party utility and basic GCD heals/shields potency AST is better. In terms of support healing and tool variety for situations SCH is better.
Overall they all feel good, although im still salty about SCH its a fun to play and feels excellent when you do well. Scholar will remain one of if not the best proactive healers in the game, due to a wide variety of instant cast heals and tools to deal with upcoming mechanics. WHM is reactionary and as such comparing both isn't as cut and dry where AST is a little of both with party buffs.
Having both SCH and WHM at 70 and my AST just dinged 68 I think, once I am done with that, that i will go back to focusing on scholar. I personally like where it is right now. I don't feel useless. I can aoe heal pretty well. The tether fix was nice and permanent excog is a god send. Really, I pop aetherflow, put that on the tank then just dps till it procs or falls off and if it falls off and you're using your aetherflow right you're ready to cast it again. If it does proc it means you may need to stop dpsing for just a sec and focus on your party/tank. Miasma 2 is <3. Being able to run in the big groups of enemies, pop that, then spread dots again as need; Maybe toss off a heal or fairy regen as needed. I want adlo to be bigger but I think sch has always wanted more shield. I do find I am using eos more though. Maybe because I have had her regen instead of selenes dps buff is why. To be frank though, I feel like fey wind just isn't worth as much anymore.

I'm not basing my opinion on just that pull. I'm basing it on everything that I've experienced since the SB release and the subsequent patch. The recent patch hasn't changed how SCH functions because all it did was buff Excogitation/Indom and grant more liberal usage out of Aetherstacks due to the changes to Quickened Aetherflow but the core healing kit was left completely untouched.
Large pulls are still more troublesome on SCH just because they don't have a better spammable heal than Physick and even with SCH's mitigation tools, it's often not enough, leading you to use Lustrate just to keep up. The only leeway I found at all was Rouse + Whispering Dawn being as potent as it's ever been and with it up the pull is much easier but the problem is that it isn't always up and due to the sometimes unresponsive nature of the Fairy, it can take several attempts to get it out, making the task just that more frustrating. I am much harder pressed to try squeezing in some DPS on my SCH than I've even been on my WHM because my WHM has so many safety nets that I can afford to let the tank take a few extra hits before I need to heal him but SCH's safety nets are all locked behind Aetherflow stacks and I don't have a bigger base heal up to match Cure 2 outside of E-tactics/Adlo every 20 seconds.
I like SCH and I won't argue that it's still possible to play the class but the skill ceiling for SCH has shot up significantly and considering that OP is asking for advice on the role, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say it's not a healer class that he should be involved with until he gets more experience as a healer in general because of it.
Honestly, they're in a good situation right now.
They may be slightly less potenty than WHM overabundance of heal and AST buff-fest, but you can't say a group is gimped because they have a SCH unless you aim for first-second week AS clear.
Since you ask I assume this is not your case which means that by the time you'll attemp OS4, if you ever do, your group should have more than enough gear to compensate for any comp. So at this point skill >> comp.
The few % minmax only really matter when you aim for server first and gear is scarce.
I often heal with a sch friend (I'm ast), we can't play much so we know that by the time we'll reach OS4 we'll be 330+ ilv. So our wipe will be caused by players skill and not the fact there is a SCH or a MCH in the group.
So as some people said, just play what you enjoy, ultimately, your group play will be what matter.
(A bit like those 315+ilv susano group who can't kill it because they keep failing all strats)
If you're planning on only doing dungeons, WHM outperforms SCH and AST by miles in that terrain.
IMO, for dungeons it's WHM >>> SCH > AST. You really gotta learn how to manage your fairy to get a good safety net with SCH on dungeons, though. If you don't learn to prepare Whispering Dawn, Fey Illum, Fey Union, etc ahead of time for each pull, you're gonna have a really hard time trying to keep up, like some posters have mentioned before. SCH needs to always be three steps ahead of the situation to fully utilize their kit. However, this doesn't mean they don't have tools to handle emergencies.
SCH really can handle whatever the hell it's thrown at them, you just gotta be really good at knowing your job, I'd say even more so than AST or WHM, since they have more potent healing tools that are readily available at any moment, WHM even more so, of course.
That said, this doesn't mean SCH and AST are shit for dungeons or anything like that, I just think they don't perform as great in there as WHM because the later has the esiest time handling trash, both healing and DPS wise.
Scholar probably does have the highest skill ceiling of the healers. I just want to mention though that frequently using Lustrate in large pulls is actually how Scholar should heal. Physick is a last-resort heal. If you blow two stacks on Lustrate in order to get DoTs in and Bane then you're doing it right not wrong.
To say that SCH is disadvantaged for having to do this is not accurate since they don't have to use a GCD to Lustrate or Excog.
Better now, but still needs changes. Selene is still as dull and niche as always, MP management is still pretty tough compared to how it was before, and it feels like the actual shielding part of the job is disappearing. Excog could've easily just been made a really strong shield instead of a heal.
SCH so far feels nice and different to how it was in 3.0...
I felt like in 3.0 it was too easy to hit the snooze button as the fairy heal was so strong along side Critlo, Indom and DoTs.
SCH got significant nerf to the fairy heal...which unfortunately makes Selene all but useless. Eos provides too much of a synergy with regen, magic defence and healing magic increase alongside SCH shields.
I'm only 64 but in trash pulls i pop Adlo and Excog and that gives me plenty of time while adlo/excog are on to setup DoTs, Shadowflare and Broil a bunch while Adlo mitigates and Excog heals quite a large chunk when tank HP falls below 50%. Even if it wears off the tank (without triggering), Excog CD is the same length as duration so there is no hesitation putting it up again.
Of course not sure what its like at 70 yet but I am enjoying it.
SCH is more of an Emergency heals, you dont have the AOE raw heal-power from WHM and AST, but when situations happens and you need to heal the tank ASAP, SCH is the best for the job (if well AST and WHM have insta heals too, they dont have as many Spamable as SCH wich virtually grants them the Ability to have at least one insta oGCD heal ALL the time)
Scholar is still in a bad spot right now. Level either of the other 2 if you want to do progression. If not then level which ever one you wish.
Scholars can imo use a few more minor tweaks but overall after the 4.05 patch no they are not trash and not hurting.
Many SCHs are going to say it's bad because they aren't use to it having actual MP management and/or not being blatantly overpowered. It has always been a powerful healer, ever since it's release, in 2.x WHM were basically only used because SCH/SCH cause problems with Shields. It was due for nerfs/changes. All healers are pretty much equal right now.
Scholar is fine.
There is nothing I can't tackle, and the wide amount of tools we have, you can answer to almost anything at any given time, granted you know how and when to use your tools.
If one just start spamming left and right, using up all tools and resources blindly, then SCH will be in a very bad spot. But Scholar is all about planning, and use the right answer for every question the game throws at you.
Compared to the other healers who can mostly just do "Oh, cast Medica 2 over and over" or "Lulz, Cure 2 because it is so strong and cheap!"
So yeah, It is as good, you just can't turn off your brain because your basic tools aren't cheap and strong.
2.x SCH was OP at single target healing with faeries outputting a full 300 potency wth Embrace, but had almost no AOE healing. One Whispering Dawn every 60 seconds, with a 15y radius and approx 5-8 seconds before the party feels the first tick of that regen. SCH who used Sic basically threw away their only good AOE heal. Outside of WD, good luck refilling your party's HP bars with Succor.
Meanwhile, WHM's AOE was comparatively OP with Medica II and Cure III. Also, back in 2.x, Protect was a 10% damage reduction and WHM had a trait to make it reduce all damage, whereas a SCH cross classing only worked for physical. A proper WHM Protect contributed about as much to AOE mitigation as SCH's shields did.
In 2.x, SCH was basically the master of single target heals and WHM was the master of AOE heals and had a better Protect. The two balanced very nicely with each other.
3.x and beyond, the Dev team has worked to balance the healers toolkits more so that all healers can handle both single target and AOE. That meant nerfing Embrace, adding Indomitability/Emergency Tactics, and giving WHM more oGCD tools. Overall, I like the balance better in 3.x and 4.x compared to 2.x.
The point I'm trying to make is that SCH wasn't just pure OP in 2.x, as people seem to think they were. People focus on how powerful Embrace was and forget about all the things that WHM brought to the table that SCH didn't have. There was actually a balance beyond just SCH shields not stacking.
SCH is perfectly viable for pretty much anything, but that doesn't mean they are great. The other two healers get a bigger reward for much less effort put in. Both healers are more effective healers than SCH is and WHM is superior for dps and 4-man content by FAR and AST has better shielding and support than SCH. SCH can still do okay in all content, they just have to work a lot harder to be not as good.
The thing is, prior to SB, SCH was a proactive healer, shining in preventing damage so that they wouldn't need to use their Emergency heals like that. Now, they're being changed into reactive healers because they can no longer do that, at least not as effectively, and because they don't have the same tools as AST and WHM, they have no choice but to use Lustrate to try and become these reactive healers that SCH was just not designed to be.
To say that Physick is our last resort is a bit of an exaggeration as well. We have no other spammable heal since Adlo had its cost increased, so realistically, you would be using Physick more often than a last resort. This is why I'm so adamant about SE letting E-Tactics reduce the cost of Adlo/Succor by half, because it's our Cure 2/Benefic 2 equivalent and while Crit Adlo is a godsend, it's much more infrequent now than ever before, making it foolhardy to rely upon and since Adlo cost a good 33% more than it's counterpart, this would help SCH by giving it a more consistent power heal without breaking the bank. Hell, if it was up to me, I'd also give Adlo a very slight potency buff to 350, from 300, just to sweeten the deal a little bit.
Also, you have to consider that SCH needs to use a oGCD to get an equivalent heal to Cure 2/Benefit 2 but consider that AST and WHM have their own oGCD that do the same thing as Lustrate but still have their GCD heals on top of that, it's not outlandish to say that SCH is getting the short end of the stick currently.
that's a concern for me as well. from looking at the videos I've seen a wHM ast will have plenty of tools to easily heal up all the raid damage coming out I that fighte. but I'll deal with it when I get there. still stuck in v3S. but @ OP... for v1 to v3s scg feels fine compared to other healers and I suggest you play which one you like more.
First off, I disagree with the notion of Lustrate and Indom being emergency heals. Both should be used on cooldown when possible to maximize your MP and DPS efficiency.
With Scholar’s current toolkit now having Fey Union, Excogitation, and Quickened Aetherflow – in addition to Succor, Sacred Soil, Aldo, and Fey Covenant – I’d completely disagree and say that Scholar is now more proactive than ever.
With Fey Union, you must use it when the tank is near full HP, and can expect it to keep their health steady for a not insignificant amount of time (until the next dungeon pull or until the next raidwide AoE when it’s time for Whispering Dawn). If you wait too long you’ll find that it’s not enough to top the tank off in time.
With Excog, you have to plan with your cohealer which segments are appropriate for its use, apply it at the right time, and then not heal (i.e. DPS instead) so that it goes off effectively.
With Quickened Aetherflow, Scholars now need to be much more attentive to their stack usage otherwise you’ll find yourself sitting on Aetherflow with no MP. You have to plan your heal stacks such that the rest can be used on Energy Drain, and you now have to use your stacks 25% more quickly.
All of these abilities are in addition to what we had in 3.x, when we already had to use Succor wisely otherwise face MP issues, proactively Aldo incoming busters, determine which damage was magic-based and Covenant appropriately, etc. A Scholar using all of these tools is in no way underpowered in comparison with the other healers, who simply can’t do any of this without losing DPS uptime.
Your spammable heal is Lustrate. Don’t know how many times I can say it. You get 3 every 45s, which should be used as such:
Lustrate/Excog == Indom >>>>> Energy Drain >>> Sacred Soil.
The instant single target heals from WHM & AST have a much longer cooldown in comparison:
WHM: Tetragrammaton (1 per 60s); Benediction (1 per 3m)
AST: Essential Dignity (1 per 40s)
SCH: Lustrate (3 per 45s – can be boosted by Dissipation; shares resource stack w/ Indom)
Aetherflow stacks are shared of course, but with no Energy Drains and party damage you can still Indom (which should be enough) and still have 2 Lustrates available. One of these is enough to keep any party member in comfortable health-territory in almost any content in the game (I know because I’ve saved party members in O3S plenty of times with a single Lustrate).
Furthermore, because WHM/AST have only one on a moderate cooldown, the risk of using either outside of any planned usage is far greater. Let me explain:
In content: While using Gravity/Holy/Stone IV/Malefic III you let the tank’s health get quite low to maximize Essential Dignity, but a rogue DPS simultaneously takes an AoE to the face. If you quickly ED that DPS knowing that party damage is incoming (perhaps this is the final boss in Ala Mhigo), you’ve now increased your quickest response time to the tank to 2.5 seconds. You have to pick one.
This situation arises in numerous content, both serious raid and dungeon content, and in those situations WHM/AST is always faced with a choice, to then suffer the consequences later. But Scholar (stacks willing) can always do both. So to say that Lustrate is underpowered in comparison is not seeing the full picture.
Not having to use a GCD (or as you put it – needing to use an oGCD) is a benefit not a detriment. I don’t think I should have to explain the value of the GCD.
You should say it less because that is terrible. If Energy Drain is tied to Aetherflow, I'm not going to prioritise Lustrate over that unless I really need it, aka Emergeny heals. And it's certainly not something you should ever spam. In most situations, using just one Lustrate gives you enough leeway to then recover without wasting more stacks.
Lustrate may function the same as Tetra and Essential, but it's almost never used in the same way because of that particular reason!
What makes you think Energy Drain is so great compared to the instant heals? Can you make a case...
Right, using one Lustrate is sufficient in most cases (as I said). Why are you spamming heals? You're trying to make the case that Emergency Tactics is underpowered because both WHM and AST have Cure II-equivalents. I'm saying SCH doesn't need one because of Lustrate, which they get 3x as much as the other jobs. I think your bantering about ET is moot, that's all.
I... also stated specific ways that Lustrate and ED/Tetra are used differently. What exactly are you trying to say?
You save more MP + GCD's + more HPD by just using a lustrate instead of using energy drain then hard-casting an adlo or physick...
Energy drain should really only be used to empty out your bar when the AF cooldown is almost up and no one needs healing. Even then you're probably better off using Sacred Soil instead.
In most cases its a mistake to hold on to AF forever...

https://www.fflogs.com/rankings/character/138879/13/
Can you do some homework before you denigrate people
If your response to heavy incoming aoe damage is to spend AF for energy drain instead of something like indom/SS then you have bigger problems you need to deal with on your scholar...
I mean do you people even look at how much mana E-drain actually brings back compared to the mana cost of hard-casting succor/Adlo? I don't get why people love e-drain so much lol. Scholars are not vampires.
Scholar simply doesn't synergize at all anymore, they have no identity.
Dissipation doesn't synergize with Fey Union.
Lots of their heals are abiliites, which aren't affected by Largesse. Or the Dissipation buff.
Their key spell, Adlo, is a mana hog now. AST shields for cheaper, faster, and for more shield.
Embrace was nerfed but the healing power wasn't compensated in Physic. Physic is still the lowest potency heal.
Currently there is no reason at all to take Selene, Eos outshines her in every way. The only thing she has is a worse version of the Arrow Card.
