Body type suggestion

I've always loved making characters and this has been a recurring issue for me personally; The lack of body types (Example: muscular, skinny, average and overweight)

I know I would enjoy more character creation options, as well as many others.

This is something I did in my spare time (basically copy pasted Au Ra scales onto the highlander model) and some day I would love to live my dream of being a buff Au Ra lady.

The only change I need is butt slider :p

People often request or express the feeling that some sliders and more possibilities to personalize characters would be welcome. To compare even with Aion, FFXIV character creation looks somehow weirdly outdated and restricted.

For more customization you should play another games, this one will add new choices in few years but nothing special.
People here still waiting for hair on new races for about a year.

Wait, it's ok to tell people to play other games if they want more customization, but not if they dislike major portions of the way the game works? What?

I wish that the Au Ra went the Hyur route where each clan had different body types with Midlander vs Highlander.

But yeah, I totally agree. I'm a huge fan of the the Xaela lore and would love to play them, but can't get over the pretty petite princess body and animations of the females. I would have LOVED if Raen had the current female model and Xaela got a taller, buffer, more savage version but alas... waifubait for all.

He is pretty much telling them not to get their hopes up. They haven't even given us more hair for the limited races we have now. Pretty much we can't even get to number 3 and people are asking for SE to reach 10,000. Lets get to 3 first is what he means.

Agreed. It would have made much more sense for the Xaela to look more fierce and for the women in particular to not have emotes that make them look like employees at a maid café.

I don't believe they're implying that.
I believe they're just stating that feedback regarding character customization is likely hopeless.

Wonderful suggestions like these pop up all the time, but the most we seem to have received in turn is a single item that enhances a female character's buttocks.

At least SE seems intent on implenting facial hair for those that desire such a feature...

You say that.. but SE's the one writing and designing them. Maybe to them it makes more sense how they have it. Not all warriors need to go to the same school as - big mean looking protags - This is a series where most of the main characters are Teenagers saving the world. I'm not insulting you btw I'm just providing that other side of the coin people always forget about.

While I won't dispute that SE has the right to make their characters however they please, I can't agree with the rest of your post. My satisfaction with the game as it is is much greater than any dissatisfaction I have with some of their choices, so I'll be playing long into the foreseeable future. That doesn't keep me from having opinions one way or another about said choices. And, to be fair to the person you quoted, the only real flaw with their post is that they didn't qualify it by specifying "it makes more sense to me". Different body types for the different tribes would have made sense to me as well.

You're right that not all warriors need to be big and bulky but if variety is what you are going for, this game has vastly more cute/dainty female body types than big and fierce ones. I get the style is very much anime which is why spindly little girls swinging weapons 2 to 3 times their size is so popular, but having a wider range of choices is always welcome. Also, the only teenagers saving the world are the twins and Ryne, that's three out of the entire main cast. Even if you open it up to side characters like Unukalhai (physically young, if not actually) then the ratio of teenager-to-adult would be even lower. It's just that most of the main cast look like teenagers due to the rampant waifu body types I mentioned previously.

Baited, of course I dont mind people wanting to see more customization in this game (even if its not possible), sliders is too much, but some improvements are needed.

A fat and portly body type would be nice. I hope Male bunnies if they are a thing provide this option.

I meant over the entire final fantasy series when I said teenagers saving the world I wasn't just talking about XIV. Since our WOL is ageless. Tho I headcanon mine to be 18 cause.. does she REALLY look older than that to you xD?

Yeah, if there was one thing I would add to the character creation/customization in FF14 it would be more control over body type and sizing. Even just more meaningful options for it than what we have now.

Why are sliders too much? A muscle slider for Miqo'te would be excellent.

If dev time was unlimited and costed no time, why not.

This game doesn't have an adjustable body to armour slider that a lot of other games use which effectively just stretch things out and hide the muscle or fat under a layer anyway. (which this game has to a minor extent)

To do as you suggest would require every piece of armour to re-made with different proportions in mind and would increase the costs and time of every new patch with an equippable item in it.

It's just not worth it.

Fat Viera would be pretty funny to see.
My husband is portly irl, and he likes to make his in-game characters portly as well, so FF14 doesn't scratch that particular itch for him. The closest he can get is playing Lalafell.

Not that I forget about it, but I am thinking about things on the macro level of the options available. Of course we don't have to have all the people of a more physcally-inclined or brutal reputation represent that; the writing in the game does a good job of this in the sense we see characters out in the world that don't really represent the image of their stereotype, which is healthy in terms of representing the diversity out in the world. I am sure, for example, a highlander who just spends their years knitting and has an aversion to the sword is not going to grow up to be ripped.

Though, with respects to offering variety, and having better character customization, what they did with midlander and highlander is superior, because ultimately it allows a greater range of expression at the end of the day. You can make a female highlander, for example, but you can say she is just a midlander who has spent much more time honing her body if that is your image of your character. Similarly, I rather have had two Au Ra of different builds, and then an option to customize their scale colour. So if, say, someone wants a more meek-looking Xaela, they could use a Raen body and colour the scales that way.

^This is the reality of the situation. Our characters are effectively legos - when you equip a piece of armor, its not going over some hidden body, it BECOMES your body. You can easily see this in a) minfiliia's attire buffing up your chest size even if you're at 0 scale, or most armors making you effectively flat, even at 100 scale.

If they did add different body types, they'd effectively have to go back and re-model every single piece of armor in the game to fit such a new body, at which point they might as well design a new race if they're going to have to do that much work. It's the same reason why there's no butt sliders either - gear simply replaces your butt entirely, so you'd only ever see it if you were running around without bottoms, and is why the 2B bottoms give your character a grade-A rear. The alternative would be they could add emperor's new x stuff that would give the body type you want, but you'd be stuck running around without anything besides small clothes if you wanted to enjoy it.

You're better off wishing for a new race to have the body type you want, as that's a lot more realistic than asking for any race to have the proportions, which is basically impossible due to the gear system they've created.

That's a very very good point that sadly will fall on deaf ears for some. Mostly the folk who may say "Well then just hire more workers" but it really isn't that simple, office space for one and the increase in cost of having to pay for more folks. I'd be down for an ab slider tho or muscle slider for all races lol. Or hell a support type bra top for females that adds abes and a male version. If making sliders for all races is too much. We got booty gear, now gimme dat ab gear :P
