They've answered this before. It's because of the leg models and walk/run animations. The calf muscle flexes a certain way based on the angle between leg and foot. (Which is typically why heels make a person's legs look better). Removing the sandals would present a problem because the legs would then look off. Or they'd clip into the local fauna that's been designed with the idea that our characters will always be wearing some kind of footwear. You can already see some of it happening if you zoom in by stairs and other little hills.
Just another lame excuse why we can't have barefoot, pretty sure it could be done if they really wanted to.
yes i'm sure all it takes is just changing a piece of code and voila!
While we're at it can we remove underwear too?
There is no 'mod' that allows you to go barefoot. It's simply impossible to do. The shape for the sandals is built into the character model, so the best you can possibly do is texture it 'nude' to make it look barefoot, but you'd end up with weird shaped feet as a result.
Seems to me we could possible get a glamour sort of like the Emperor's New items that could hide the sandals as opposed to reworking the models. Would be nice to swim barefoot.
where did they ever said that? the only official statement i ever heared regardind to the barefoot option is this one from 2014:
as i see the things the whole height adjustment problems and clipping is made up by the community, based on nothing else than speculation...
That makes sense, but it stops making sense when you look at the completely flat heel-less sandals we have in game, such as the Gaganaskin Sandals of Healing/Casting/Striking/Scouting:

It doesn't look bad when running, so what's the difference between this and there being absolutely nothing there? Is the ankle the issue, and it looks fine because it's covered up? I doubt it's that massive of a problem if it is.
My dear mama taught me to take my shoes off before getting in bed. Logging out from an Inn is just... wrong. :)
For most people, that would be more than enough though. They just don't want the sandals. How you go about getting rid of them doesn't matter. And it isn't like the foot models aren't awful already. We don't even have toes, technically.
Actually, come to think of it. Minfilia was barefoot in 3.2. Just do that for our character models and I bet most would be happy.
Square Enix needs to prove us they know how to model beautiful feet, those "soils" we have are horrible!...
They might never do it though, because the game has poor old code that needs to be fully rewritten in order to make use of new features!...
We have code limitations now and the game is not looking as good as it did five years ago, the Producer has to do something about it!... :(
The subject of getting rid of these stupid "barefoot" sandals comes up every month or two. It's one of my irritations with the game, and I don't want rid of them for sexual reasons either. I've seen two npc's have nothing on their feet whatsoever in two cutscenes now and it leaves me wondering why we can't just have it? There's clipping issues all over the game with all kinds of gear so "it looks funny" doesn't even begin to fly with me.
As much as I have no horse in this race as I honest to goodness don't care either way, this is the lazy mans argument. They could add some of the most ugly or raunchy or 3 story tall mounts that block out the sun and "no one is forcing them" is the only argument mustered?
How about instead of accepting the removal of sandals at the expense of it not looking good and targeting your fellow player for not wanting to stare at club footed battle brides all day- you advocate for it to actually look good. For SE to actually make it a good change.
There's real arguments for and against so many things in these forums but "Lol you dun gatta use it tho" always seems to pop up the most.
Actually, that is incorrect.
There are some NPCs that are completely barefoot, namely the hyurian girls in the baths at Kugane. Also I remember in a livestream, Yoshida's lalafell was barefoot when she was walking around in the beach.
It's a thing, I don't know why they haven't implemented it yet.
Furthermore, yes there are mods that allow characters to go completely barefoot. Sadly, I believe these double as nude mods which I have no interest in whatsoever. Would rather the developer just implement the barefoot option.
This. When clipping gets to a point where our limited event items do this, I don't think whether it clips or not is their first thought.

Rather we get a combat music toggle before we cater to fetishes.
And that in itself is a fallacious argument. "Their argument sucks so I get to make bad arguments"
Propose realistic and well thought out constructive arguments if you want something.
"U dont hav 2 use it" is about as counter productive to your cause as you can get- because SE wants to make as many people happy with as little effort as possible and actively proclaiming that there's a large case of people who don't want it or don't care doesn't help you.
I would enjoy an optional choice to remove the sandals from our feet when we have no equip in that slot. To start, I do roleplay, so the things we see in the game are to be portrayed in specific ways. The issue with the sandals is that when they're on, we can see them, and it's harder to play pretend when it is staring at you. We can ahve it as a toggle on and off system, where if the player wanted it on or off for the roleplay aspect, they get it, heavily improving on Immersion.
Building off of my immersion statement, more options is generally better. It's useful in screenshots. It could be more fitting to our glamour. It can allow the player to decide how their character is, which for many players, is a fun and immersive way to play the game.
For those who maybe don't want to remove them, or maybe wouldn't even have a reason to use it (Like their glamour's never being beach theme,) they are safe to not be changed by it. They have to select to hide it, and they can change between them as they wish. And again, it only matters if our shoes are either with no slot, or show the emperor's new shoes. This at least keeps those who like their sandals happy, while at the same time, allowing those who want to hide them, be it glamour, roleplay, a fetish, etc, would be happy.
I hope I built on that a bit more for you. Have a good day.
We do have a mod for this, it is/was a paid mod. It costs 5$ and SE knows about it.

I wouldn't be opposed.
The game frequently adds neat little details to aid in immersion so this shouldn't be too different. I also think the character models could use an update in general - a few tweaks here, new options added to the creation screen and so on.
As I said in an earlier thread, SE could add it in as an item (maybe "The Emperor's Newest of the New Boots"?). It is now available as a glamour option, and you can use glamour prisms. There we go, it's in, and available as an option..
Maybe take the people who made the mod, pay them for the code surrounding it, put the code into an item?
