Fitting music in housing zones

Hey folks, I'd like to adress something that has been bothering me for a while now.

It's the standard housing music theme that plays in every housing zone so far.

While I agree that it's calming and all, I'm a bit annoyed that, while the visual themes differ greatly in the districts, the music is always the same and not even fitting well.

I would really love to see that we get the themes of the capital cities of the respective housing areas while we're outside of the house. So I'd like the limsan theme in the mist, the Ul'dahn theme in the goblet and the gridanian theme in the Lavenderbeds as well as the Kugane theme in Shirogane.

I've no issue with the standard housing music INSIDE the houses if there is no orchestrion playing but please consider changing the zone-themes themselves.

Gonna necro this because it's a good idea and better than starting a new post about it.

Shirogane especially feels like it's missing something with the generic music. I'd agree to having the current housing music played inside houses when there's no orchestrion playing, and the town music in the respective residential zones.

Amen! Nothing bugs me more than to have the generic carribean music playing in Shirogane. It should be at LEAST the Kugane soundtrack. Please, pretty please, make this happen, SE.

The 1.0 city themes Navigator's Glory ~ The Theme of Limsa Lominsa, Born of the Boughs ~ The Theme of Gridania and The Twin Faces of Fate ~ The Theme of Ul'dah I always thought would be more appropriate for the original three residential areas respectively than the default music, seeing as they're no longer used in ARR as the BGM for their specific cities, but that's just me (they're on the Orchestrion at least though).

Dont forget theres goblet, lavender and mist. They exist too.
I get that shirogane is new but most people ignore the other three estates like they r not special bcuse they arent "shirogane/kugane" eastern style. Jeez.

For me the generic music fits all estate cuse.. they are estate. But i agree on changing the generic music bcuse in overtime that music is kind of annoying.

Oh don't get me wrong, I LOVE all the zones, I'm just in Shirogane most often, so I get annoyed moreso lol

Idk about you guys, but I made myself a /bgm macro to keep permanently on my hotbar and I hit it anytime I go to a housing area lol. Can't stand that music anymore after 4 years.

Honestly, that tune is one of my favs in the game.

Would it be better to have varying instrumentation to reflect the style of each zone? If Ishgard housing happened, it'd be especially off to hear the default.

This is probably the best idea, so that they still have a unified theme but reflect the feel of the zone. Mist could keep it as is, add some flutey stuff for Lavender Beds, idk what for the other stuff but yeah

I feel like anything they replace it with would eventually get annoying.

My fantasy: only ambient noise in the streets, with yard orchestrions that fade in as you approach the yard like seasonal event areas do. *_* I imagine that would set their servers on fire, but a guy can dream.

But yes, tracks that are more tailored to the area or different themes that cycle each day would be nice. I'm stealing that guy's idea to /bgm macro. Brilliant.

Shirogane could have the melody done with a koto or shamisen (sp?) and Goblet could have the same brass instruments used for Ul'dah. I'd go further a give Lavender Beds a bit of bells or chimes.

Although I like Enkidoh's idea of using some 1.0 tunes, too.

Maybe they could even just make the shopping/apt area (where they already rotate the seasonal musics) the basic "housing" theme, and the rest of the area with housing could be the 'area' themes. I like the idea of 1.0 music, and they just brought it into orchestrion rolls, so...

I am all for this, but I am already imagining (and giggling about) the complaint threads here when folks not only have to contend with Paissa houses. but Paissa houses playing PA-PAYA on repeat.

You can turn your music down completely and just have the ambient background noise play. I like having music play. Those orchestrion rolls with the background noise are wonderful though.

You can, but then you have to constantly mute and unmute each time you get kicked back into your front yard. If you tend to hang out at your house this is quite frequent. The housing area is supposed to be your personalized little space within the game so it's a bit of a shame that the outside has predetermined music.

Because they can't make the music personalized for everyone, and people who want only ambient noise instead of music all the time are likely the minority (in terms of people who play with sound on). That idea with the yards having their own music would work, but probably wouldn't be feasible.
