SE--Don't stop now. (Battle mechanics)

The gameplay is definitely better than it was before, but it's still not there yet.
Consider adding more dynamic skills. Sneak Attack, Trick Attack, Cover; these skills were extremely innovative to the MMO genre. They promoted cognitive assertion; thwarting the concept of standing in one spot. It allowed players to truly depend on one another. This is the direction this game needs to head in.

Self-combos is a good idea and party combos will be highly welcome, but these do not add dynamics to team play like the skills I mentioned above. The gameplay should have a bigger emphasis on team coordination that rely on specific skills. All of these skills should be introduced in XIV and MORE.

If this is already in works; even better. If not, please consider this. The current gameplay is very boring as it involves nothing but spamming 1 or 2 skills/spells.

i like skill reforms overall. i just don't like the fact that they removed so many skills (cover, accomplice, absorb attack, etc), but well, it's not so bad.

battle mechanics are not the problem of this game to be honest.

needs a radical class reform for doh (maybe removing some of them too, lol) and some other little things (u/u stats, moogle pre-req, link system)

The skill reforms are not bad, but I don't want them to just say, "Here you go, enjoy."
They need to take it further as I stated. There is much more that can be done.

I think the whole point of the recent ability changes was to open up some of the skills to other future classes. This will stop everyone from being "John Everyman" and turn them into "Johnny Specific-Archetype."

However, I feel they should release jobs and finish battle adjustments prior to throwing other classes into the mix, cause that's just going to create more issues with balancing.

Not to mention we have to consider that a lot of the server & game engine issues they state are being fixed are the likely culprits to a lot of missing abilities and game mechanics.

They really should have not released the patch without implementing the jobs.

It's still a good idea to bring these suggestions to light. We don't know everything that SE has in store so it becomes very important that we as a community bring up these concerns before it is too late.

Love the combo system. but as other put too many skill where removed in my opinion.

Have to see what the job system adds to make my final call on that though.

SE needs to adjust other content slightly though for the change in the battle system. Ifrit is an example... cannot really do a 3 stage combo without getting owned atm.

I agree, jobs should have accompanied the current battle adjustments but obviously it wasn't feasible and the whole situation we have now comes down to SquareEnix being a business who's job it is to churn income from it's fanbase.

I think it's good to discuss potential future jobs & classes, however as it stands now we know they want to implement more mages first, pet classses & a scout archetype for THF/NIN-style jobs. So I think it's safe to assume you'll see some nifty abilities in the future in the vein you're looking for.

One thing though, I do disagree in your OP about spamming 1 or 2 skills, if that's the case you're not utilizing your class properly. There are beneficial skills across the board for most classes, and several things which are situational use now which leaves a bit of decision making up to the individual. But it does need a bit more expansion.

Also there are plans to implement another "Battle Regimen" system but it's not going to be the same as before. So we do know team interaction is certainly coming.

But Gladiators already have cover, did they remove the skill in the patch? It was like the only way I was able to tank anything lol

And PGL has Sneak Attack and LNC used to have Trick Attack.

we already know they are adding more in 1.21 (feb-march). new skills, jobs, new equips (af), new primals (garuda, maybe ifrit, maybe titan/leviathan). maybe something to do with guild marks too.

I like current system that give me more choice when I play.
So I can be chill and bust single big WS here and there, like before 1.20.
Or I can try to be bad-S to show off my skill by tanking with gld and suddenly move through mob and bust shinny combo from behind. lots dmg, lots hate and lots <3. :D

I'm not asking for just those three skills. I used them as an example to generalize the type of gameplay that this game should focus on. Sneak attack is here; sure, but Trick Attack and Cover are not. Regardless, I want to see more of this.

You can introduce some crazy variety like needing one person on each side of the mob in order to fulfill the requirements of a certain party combo.

Most of the skill they remove would be added to Jobs like cover would be added only to Job-PLD So i think that why there little of spell because they be use for the job system.

I love the new system because (combined with the job abilities coming in 1.21) it gives the game a nice, clean base off of which to add future abilities that will come with level cap increases and new classes/jobs. This is essentially where the game STARTS. It has a lot of room to grow, which I think FFXIV really needs if it is to start life over again with the release of 2.0.

The way battle feels in this game is my biggest complaint. I think they're on the right track with abilities.

I'm not sure if it's the lag or the animation locks, but it all feels terribly disjointed to me. I hate to bring it up because it's an open invitation to get flamed, but WoW really nailed it in terms of feeling like you're in control of your character and the flow of battle. I don't want the specifics from WoW's battle system, but if they could reproduce the feeling of WoW's combat (as ambiguous as that is) I would enjoy this game a lot more.

Amy you're confusing my suggestion.
Trick Attack involved two people in order to activate properly. You had to be behind someone in order to "trick" the mob in to thinking that person attacked it. Sneak+ Trick attack needed three people, one with the aggro, the second one behind the mob, and the THF or /THF had to be behind the person who was behind the mob. Cover required the target you were defending to be BEHIND you. This required true tactical positioning on behalf of the party as opposed to self-combos.

This is what adds multiplayers dynamics that the self-combo system somewhat ignores.

Likes:

• Combos. Fun stuff. Enough said.
• Caster changes. Spells are streamlined, single target and AoEs are split. It finally feels right. Good job.

Dislikes:

• Melee changes. The feeling of interactive combat for melee classes is completely gone. Auto-attack can still exist in a combat system that always has active abilities to use, whether or not you have TP. TP abilities should be more uncommon instead of the bulk of what's on your bar. The beginning of the fight should not have players standing around just watching their character auto-attack and waiting for TP. It's slow and boring.

They should do crazy things like having 2 people directly behind the Paladin with Defend; will allow the Paladin to further block the oncoming onslaught.
They can approach Mages with the same idea. Two mages can combine their efforts to cast one a unique spell. Bring three mages to the fray and let them cast something crazy.

The efforts of each individual should be integrated with the party.
