Yet another King Moogle Strategy Guide. (Doctor Mog & DoW)

First order of business;

You need to know the names and jobs of the 6 moogles.

BLM: Pomburner (AOE magic damage centered on himself)
WHM Kipp (Cure)
ARC Kogi (Moogle Eye Shot, 2,000 - 2,500 single target damage)
BRD Shaggysong (Makes other moogles "larger" which removes their abilities and makes them move more slowly, but they melee for 1,000 regardless)
THF Tailturner (AOE MP siphon)
MRD Kapa (AOE whirlwind)
GLD Koop (Lifesteal on melee hit)

Now that you have memorized their names and jobs, you are ready!

The setup we use is:

GLD (Tank ALL THE THINGS!)
ARC
ARC
ARC
ARC
THM
CON
CON


[SIZE="6"]Phase 1: DPS Check[/SIZE]

The fight starts with the GLD moogle front and center. Burn Him down. (Tip: Mages do more damage to the GLD and MRD moogles, take advantage of this)

Burn down every Moogle that spawns.

They all need to die before his 2hr.

This is your DPS check. If you can't kill all of the moogles (before 2hr) with the above setup, you are not geared enough or coordinated well enough to do this fight. (Come back later!)

If all moogles die before the king is summoned, the damage from his 2hr is GREATLY reduced. (You take 100 or so damage with sentinel if all moogles are dead @ 2hr)


[SIZE="6"]Phase 2: King gets summoned[/SIZE]

After the last (6th moogle) is killed, we gather at the south of the room for rebuffs and heals.

A lot of things need to go on at once here:

BEFORE he is summoned:

All Archers need to buff with Barrage, and use Sacred Prism but hold off on the cure. (Barrage buff lasts 60 seconds, its ok to use it early so that its up again quickly)
Con's Need to heal everyone to full.
Sentinel

Immediately AFTER King is summoned:

(This all happens at once)

GLD needs to Flash all of the mobs, Rampart, then begin kiting.
All Archers need to Sacred Prism a Cure to top everyone off from his AOE 2hr dmg. (if any moogles were left alive) if not, just second wind yourself.
Archers then need to burn the mobs in the following order:
BLM WHM ARC BRD THF MRD KING GLD

(WHY this order?: Because BLM will f your s#eet up, WHM heals, ARC will fuck your s#eet up, THF and BRD are interchangable imo, but the BRD is actually HELPING you by "buffing" moogles. When they are large, as long as you can stay the hell away from them, they are basically crowd controlled FOR you.) GLD last because he has a stupidly large HP regen and you DONT want him healed by king. It sucks) The MRD does nothing but spin and AOE, just stay away from him. The THF steals MP, he isn't much of an issue either.

The Archers should have buffed barrage before kings 2hr, it should burn the BLM down VERY fast, and should be up again very shortly to be used again for the BLM or the WHM.

Here is where all hell breaks loose:

[SIZE="6"]Phase 3: GTFO[/SIZE]

This phase is also called "Stay the f away from the MRD, King, "Large Buffed Moogles" and GLD
Everyone needs to know where each of these mobs are at all times! Getting hit by any of the above is going to f your s#^$ up. This is why you need to know the names and jobs of the moogles.

Archers need to shadowbind the MRD, Buffed Moogles GLD or King as often as possible. <- THIS IS IMPORTANT. Sleep and Repose do not work.

If you have aggro, run the fuck away. Everyone in this phase is kiting. Staying alive is more important than any DPS you can put out.

With some practice, and everyone paying attention to where the above "stay the fuck away from" list mobs are at, you will get the group down from 7 moogles to 4 or 5 pretty fast.

From here on out its cake:

Burn down the last few moogles, leave the GLD alive till AFTER the king dies.

Shadowbind Moogles! No seriously. Freekin' do it. (hint, Keen Flurry)

Quick question: why THM?

I noticed you mentioned THM in your party setup, but no THM specific directions in the written strategy.

They have binding and heavy abilities to help with kiting.

They can also DD with the archers to have quicker death to moogles. I'm pretty sure.

Why is it important to stay away from the GLA? Doesn't seem like he really does much harm. Or are you referring to the fact that the MRD KING and GLA are all on the Tank?

THM is short-lived because of MP restrictions, even though the nukes are amazing while they last, it doesn't seem worth it when you could have an ARC with consistent DPS :c And Sanguine Rite isn't class-exclusive, but to each their own

You can certainly do the fight without ARCs, but ARCs' combos rely on distance, not direction, which is far easier to control. All physical DPS classes' damage ceilings are theoretically in the same general neighborhood, but it's easier to back up/move in than it is to find the moogles' butts/faces/sides. Melee-range DPS will also take more damage during the fight while killing the BLM and MRD moogles.

GLA is weak to magic.

Sanguine Rite on THM has an additional damage reduction attribute.

As far as I have seen, no way. No videos, no proof. Ever tried to combo with melee while there are like 3-4 archers ping ponging hate (don't forget the healers)? Incorporate some latency and it's frustrating as hell.

So, has anyone tried a 2 tank strategy that involves not killing the Black mage first? I know the moogles kind of do whatever the hell they want, but for the most part the black mage is relatively harmless if you know how to handle it compared to some of the other moogles. Burst has like a 5+ second charge up and you can walk away from it about as easily as you can run through batraals laser. Killing it gives that ability to the king right? And the king is alot more dangerous with said ability because the king does whatever the hell it wants most of the time and is fairly difficult to keep hate on. From my experience the black mage never moves more than a few feet away from the person it has hate on.

I was under the impression that the King can use Pom Flare from the start, does killing the BLM give him that ability? If that's true, it makes no sense to kill the BLM first, because as you said, the King is far more dangerous with it.

Anyway, I also don't see any way to do this without at least 2 competent Archers. Having more competent Archers just makes it easier. Thus most groups just bandwagon the same setup. This is the same issue that has been going on since 1.18... it's getting tiring.

The fight is accessible by any class at the moment. It's not a matter of DPS - all of the damage dealers are balanced now more than they ever were when it comes to their damage ceilings.

It's simply that due to the freedom of movement an ARC has, and no positioning requirements on their combos, they are easier to use for this fight. LNC, MRD and PGL can put out at least the same amount of damage but they require lots of positioning, which is tough for a lot of players to get the hang of right away and the Moogles calling each other for help back and forth make them difficult to maneuver around.

This is not like Batraal, or Ifrit, which had very clear disadvantages to any class besides ARC and LNC respectively. A lot of the reason for stacking was also due to ARC being clearly over powered in terms of DPS during 1.18, and LNC being over powered as such during 1.19. Balance has been found as far as DPS goes.

The community, however, will always look for the path of least resistance to effectively clear content and farm rewards.

You can avoid the king spamming moogle-go-round by killing it before the mrd. That's what we do and it goes really smooth.

As for the archer thing... Our first kill had 2 mrd in pt and we did just fine.

Another helpful ability if you have a THM in the party is Blizzara. We found it extremely useful when the king is being summoned. Have the Thaumaturge move to the middle of the summoning, standing where the king is so that you hit most of them, and blizzara right after the party takes damage, freezing a few of the moogles in the center.

Make sure to also keep casting it wherever the largest group is at, for some effective crowd control.

Along the same lines, a CON's Stonera heavy effect is nice to throw out at the beginning of Phase 2. GLA seems to move quite fast even with it though.
My group has started doing this fight smoothly with GLA, 2 CON, 5 ARC. Gets all 7 down in Phase 1 alright.
We're still experimenting with order a bit, but we do: WHM BLM ARC (THF / BRD) MRD King GLA, and finish with ~10 minutes on the clock if all goes well. ARC THF and BRD are kind of a tossup but we decided getting sniped hurt more than avoidable MP drain.

Note that once jobs hit, among other useful abilities, WHM will have Esuna/Erase/whatever they call it, which might be able to cure Petrify. This would make THF less of a priority.

When King, MRD or THF decide they want to use Moogle-go-round or Mognesia (MP drain), they'll do it 3-5 times or so if people stay in range. They spam more at lower HP from what I've seen.

BLM does literally nothing aside from Pom Flare, and WHM/BRD hit for negligible damage when they're not cure/buffing.

Also another awesome thing we learned is right after the summon and 2hour hits if the THM Dark Seals and Blizzara evry moogle will get hit, a couple times we bound every single moogle but the king (which i dont think can be bound). but most the time u will hit at least 4 of them. this allows the GLA to flash them all and not have to worry about 7 moogles on him at once.

I thought I was going crazy ... I was counting the moogles, we had killed 6 and there was still one up (before the main moogle comes up)... But there in fact is 7 moogles lol.

ANYWAY, Thanks for this great guide, I have read it a few times, watched your video and I don't get it how you can do it so well lol. I have done this fight now probably 30 times and failed every time...

Maybe you can help me a bit.

Ok, so here is our problem.
We get all the moogles dead fine before the 2h, we recover ok after 2h. Everyone has full HP and MP... and then chaos happens. Archers start dying, Conjurers spam heal so much that they run out of MP and in the matter of 2 - 3 minutes we are all dead and exiting the battlefield.

I am going to eat my Moogle toy for breakfast tomorrow morning if we can't do this tonight!!! lol

A couple of tips to make recovery easier: /assist <p#> is your friend. Have a dedicated targeting lead that doesn't do binds unless absolutely necessary, makes it easier for your binders to find the main target again easier. Also have dedicated binders for both MRD and GLD, with specific backups. Communicate. If a bind fails let your party know. Finally, and Mog specifically covered this one, keep yourself alive. Arc has a 2kish mp pool, use it. Kite if you're getting hit. If someone goes down get them back up asap (protip: Company issued expectorants are your friend, and only cost 15 seals)
