Please never change Bard (feedback)

Stormbloods iteration of BRD is by far the best thing Square-Enix have done for this Job, it feels like a polished version of A Realm Reborn's BRD with some great abilities taken from Heavensward without the casting nonsense.

I no longer feel like a glorified mage. I really hope they don't decide to "revamp" again and destroy what they have created here.

I love being able to focus purely on DPS but also give players mana/tp on the fly without punishing my damage, I also love being able to drop 20% healing increase on tanks for 15 seconds, even though nobody seems to notice it

I agree. While many jobs got smashed by SE's "revamp" Bard actually was one of the few real winners.

Great new design and ideas. The ability names may need some work. Mage's Ballad makes no sense for what it actually does now.

I HATED bow mage so much that I stopped playing BRD in HW. And BRD was the only DPS that I actually liked before the changes. I'm extremely grateful for the SB changes and I'm back to playing BRD... so yes thank you devs.

Agreed, the new brd feels great, actively using songs, watching for procs, and managing buffs and debuffs and best of all, no more casting times.

They put that concept for brd and mch in the garbage where it belongs. May it never come back, ever.

This is my only gripe with Bard, otherwise Bard seems pretty awesome now, Ive been slowly thinking of switching from Summoner to Bard. But yea hope they decide to switch the name or give it a more mage like additional ability!

While I'm very happy with the changes they've made to bard gameplay wise I was pretty shocked how bad, and even awefully written the quest was - at least in german it was a pain to go through it. Just finished it today and... please... stick to the gameplay but never ever give me the option to say "Yes, thats shit." (literal translation of the german version) again. It felt horribly out of placed, uncalled for and just... shitty.

(Can anyone tell me if its the same in english? I get that Guydelot is supposed to be that asshole, but the german version took it a bit to far with the stuff he said - it just seemed tasteless and very badly done)

SB bard is so good it makes me want to try the job for real after literally forcing myself to play it for Quelling in HW.

I really, really enjoy the new bard, and this is coming from someone that actually enjoyed HW Bard and raided as one back then too.

I do want to mention that while new Bard came into SB with a wildly successful revamp, I'd also say that SB Bard is actually far harder to optimize than HW Bard ever was, in an expansion where the overall theme was to tighten the skill gap. That would be the only argument to attempt to overhaul us again though, which I doubt the devs will even attempt to do.

Agreed. I hope they never go back to "bow mage". I have been having so much fun on Bard that I have almost forgot 3.x had happened, almost. I really like the little touches to, such as using a flute when using some of the role abilities. Its also nice to have a more support focused job.

I've fallen in love with Bard again after hating the clunky mess it became in Heavensward.
It feels great watching for procs and having fewer issues with clipping my GCD. :D

Disagree. Preferred bow mage, just wanted more songs and support to go with as the name 'bard' suggests.

One less job to worry about, I suppose. :(

I'll chime in on this too, I had fun playing BRD on my alt during ARR but dropped it like a rock when I hit the cast times. Went to NIN during HW on my alt, although now heavily considering picking BRD back up when I put time into my alt again.

I always thought it was ok in ARR and HW, with or without cast times didn't make a difference to me. But SB bard is really impressive, with the songs being more a part of active gameplay, nice animations and overall fun. One of the best jobs in the game now I think.

I didn't mind the Bowmage. My thing is I'm FINALLY a true DPS SUPPORT.
I remember when I looked over ARR years ago and was hyped with BRD just to
see how terrible and situational songs were, now after all these years, they finally
made BRD a real supportive DPS. Easily one of the best reworks they did with the jobs.
Playing songs going out 100% of the time is so much fun.
Love it so much. So many cookies to SE. :P

I agree. I left after Heavensward slapped a cast time on Bards. The game was left with Melee, or Casters. If I wanted to play a caster, I would roll a BLM/SMN.

I came back after hearing that they are going to remove the stupid cast time idea on Bards. However, I've been telling myself that if they can change Bard once, they can do it again.

If they do something stupid like adding cast time on Bards again, I'm dropping this game for good.

I echo the sentiments of the OP. Bard is AMAZING! It's exactly what the job deserved! :)

At first I was VERY sceptical cos "lolwut? I need to HIT mobs with my songs to use them....?"

and I also think Foe's Requiem is quite the joke ...I mean... 3% dmg increase for like...what... 5 seconds? It drains MP so damn quick. At least remove the cast time on it so its easier to weave in.

But other than getting used to the whole revamped song thing, I really started to like it.
And i LOVE how I can support tanks/heals during big pulls that might be troubling for either of them (nature's minne+ palisade on tank, army's paeon -> troubador for decreased physical vulnerability, then swap to mage ballad and full dps mode!)

Foe's MP is pretty large but it's to make up for the fact Foe's isn't only a MAGIC based song anymore.
Everyone can benefit from it, so I'll take it. Also, you can use refresh on both you and the healer
so you can bring it back again faster or keep it a big longer if you'd like. I just see it as an extra kick since you pretty much
have 100% up time on Critical Hit on the other songs. :eek: I agree with the cast time though, some times
I don't even use Foe's because I keep thinking it's instant so I cancel it. x.x

Can they at least have their Critical Up buff (from songs) effect them as well?

Unfortunately they also put the entire MCH in the garbage at the same time, which makes me rather sad as it was by far my favorite job in HW.

I'm less dissatisfied with the song system then I guessed from the announcements. I'm happy to be able to move again.....but I want my AoEs back. So, I'll give the new Bard a thumbs up I won't say don't change it.

Think of it as a burn phase cooldown, it's really strong during pulls because everyone pre-pots and burns their big dps cooldowns at the start.

As a career BRD since 2.0 through thick and thin, I have to agree with the OP that they have truly fulfilled my BRD dreams with Stormblood! It completely fulfills my fantasy of what the job should be, and plays so smooth and fun! Does it need tweaks? Sure. but please, KEEP the core design you have here! It's pure gold.

I agree this iteration of bard is so far the best and most fun, props to whoever made these bard changes. Old bard never made any sense how you got penalized for supporting the party.

Looks like Bard DPS got a buff too, since SB release only WHM has been able to out DPS me in raids and WHM has best single target DPS in the game.

I agree totally. While I didn't necessarily hate the cast times for bard in HW, I didn't like them either. Plus, I especially hated the way they felt on machinist. I'm glad both jobs have removed them.

Loving new BRD. I love that I'm not punished for singing songs anymore. I'm still trying to get used to what to sing when, though, and I think they actually added to button bloat instead of reduced it. But I'm enjoying my secondary. I never quit playing it and adjusted as a bowmage, but I'm much happier to put that in the past.

It always did. I think they just widened the proximity. I can't name the amount of times I've accidentally pulled Demon Tome in Gubal NM when I thought the tank was ready but then they pulled back.

Guess I never noticed before, then. Or maybe I never used it close enough to something to pull it. But it's like it pulls everything now. They should change the name to Foe Magnet.

Stopped playing HW because of the bard change along with real life but I like the change, however, I do feel some things could be better. I do throw out the extra healing buff or the 10% reduction but I get so busy they fall by the wayside often and the tp regen is pretty pointless with invigorate. They should rework some of the cross skills because what we have is pretty pathetic.

I wholeheartedly agree with the OP. Bowmage made me quit FF14 for two years; 4.0 BRD brought me back. No doubt, 4.0 BRD is the best iteration of this class to date, even outshining its previous pinnacle, the 2.0 BRD.

Bowmage will always be a piece of trash, and may it never come back ever. And to those very tiny minority asking for Bowmage back, don't worry! That kind of caster DPS playstyle is still available even in SB, and it's called BLM or SMN. Please feel free to reroll to those!

I leveled he BRD to 60 twice, hated it! Love the changes and feel really good playing it again.

The TP regen is for the party. You benefit as well, but it's a support skill.
