A Relic Re-Re-Reborn (4.0)

I don't know how everyone else feels , but please no insane light/aetherjuice/whatever silly thing you think up this time. It's a neat idea for getting roles in the duty system. However it feels out of order to me ,because by the time I reach that stage my gear is pretty much done. I feel very little desire to revisit dungeons and trials for one thing only. Many would probably bring up raids and how that meshes well with the grind system for relic weaponry. My response to this is that raiders are only one part of the community , and since SE has committed to making their weapons better regardless the relic becomes mere glam even for them. That's just my opinion though, what do you think?

If there would be another light grind step I think we would be just fine if pvp still counts.

When talking about the next weapon Yoshida addressed your points, the previous weapons were designed in a way to make you revisit old content, the new weapon will not be like that, and so far the plan is that the weapon will be entirely based on a new zone called Eureka.

As this weapon follows a different design philosophy and they want everyone to start at the same point your current Anima Lux will not allow you to skip the first step of the next weapon.

This is true, "The Land of Eureka" New Airship Zone. He also said they were thinking about adding Reilc Gear too. Key word "Thinking" but as for the new weapons they will take place in this new zone for the most part.

Also so true, the old weapon will not count in the new one, they want everyone to start on the same page.

Ya they told us about the new zone long befor SB, about the time of the last patch for HW. But they have not been giveing us any new info about, so it a waitting game now.

That makes sense, I returned well after that patch.

Just sucks we can't use our Anima to start 4.0 Relic. Why did I waste months of grinding that shit? Just for glam?

Some info was released with a E3 interview. MrHappy made a video about it the other day.

It will be another grind no matter what.

Relic has been a tool to help new players, like doing low-level dungeons so new players gets fast queues, or free runs on primals, or full parties on FATEs so new players can experience a world full of players everywhere etc... it has been always this strategy.

So expect another grind like the Yo-Kai event, wich happened at the same time when SE released the free to play version, so the potentially new players could see all the low-level maps full of people.

Gear is always just for glamour in the end. Always. Otherwise progression will stop.

I hope this Eureka weapon grind will not be tied to RNG too heavily. While light/Umbrites and such are usually a long grind, at least you know how close you are to finishing unlike with Yokai/Atma fate farming.

Supposedly they're supposed to only used Eureka for the relic.

i275 weapon was actually BIS for some jobs, so more than just a glam piece for some. Or good for those who didnt want/can't raid A12s

It's going to be a grind for sure. After the 50 relic players specifically asked for the 60 one to be much less grindy and easier to obtain.

SE took that feedback and threw it in to a furnace.

Since you could customise the stats it was BiS as soon as its ilvl became the same as the Alexander savage drop.

The 60 relic *was* much less grindy and hard to obtain. I did both pre any nerfs and, at least to my perception, was far easier in the 60 relic. The only two truly difficult steps were the 210 step and the light grind near the end.

Whatever Yoshi P says, I will be shocked if the new relic doesn't involve massive grinding of old content. It's simply too enormously successful a strategy for this game. Thanks to the various relic grinds people DID FATES. They RAN OLD DUNGEONS over and over and over and over. They EVEN DID CRYSTAL TOWER (for a little while, anyway).

We might get something unique for the first and/or last stages, but if the middling stages don't follow the same patterns we've seen time and again, I'll be surprised. Pleasantly surprised, but surprised nonetheless.

If that is the case, then one wonders what SE will do to rejuvenate the old areas and content to bring players back to them.

Unless they make the zone available to everyone then I can't do it. My FC is poor and doesn't have any airships.... much less a house.

If it's anything like the HW exploratory missions, there will be an NPC that can send you there with your pre-made party, or a DF party. All it took was buying the mission voucher(for gil) from a NPC close to the entrance NPC.

I'm glad to know other people's advantages and disadvantages affect your life so much you glean happiness from knowing they'll have none :3

Let me predict

1-Boring Fate grind for low RNG drops (oh yeah)
2-Low lv dungeons runs (yay)
3-10K tomestone grinding for a stupid item that cost 500


I really miss the first step of ARR relic. Some trials, hard modes...good times.

I agree. I liked having those special bosses. I also like it when you're given a specific instance to complete. Specific tasks feel much less grindy than "spam this thing to earn a currency to buy a bunch of this random item."

If each upgrade is a sequence of tasks rather than just repeat X ad nauseam, they could combine both with a better mix than just first and last stages. Have people repeat some old content each time, but include something new in each upgrade stage as well.

The one thing I will say about the head start is it let you skip a step that some people never actually managed to finish. I know someone who gave up after 15 days of failed fate farming... they could only get 3 of them to drop.

They should get rid of this "chance to obtain item" thing. It has zero sense of progress, and that's a huge letdown if you keep failing to get what you want over and over again. And someone else can get lucky and do that a lot faster than you, making you feel even worse for something that does not depend on you

The light farm is a good thing because players are rewarded for doing things they do every day. The problem is that the design allows them to rush it (A1S farm). If there was a daily limit to how much light one could obtain (something very lenient, that you could be done with a few roulettes), people would not make a fuss about it since you could do it at your own pace

They could add a secondary step to this, like buying items with tomestones, as to decrease this feeling of time-gating progression

Well, we do know Eureka will involve NMs in some way, so expect RNG, and I'd also expect some sort of grind of lesser mobs if you can't beat a NM.

I'm looking forward to a relic that doesn't involve dungeons...I might actually bother this time around although the ARR relics are tempting (too) now that every step can easily be soloed at 70.
