Swimming and Diving Improvements

Below are two improvements I would love to see happening in the future:

A) Immersive traverse between surface and underwater. Please, make it without this eloquent loading screen. The same goes for the underwater hubs. It kills immersion and make the world feel fragmented.

B) Let us use mounts on surface. There is no logical reason that we dismount the moment we touch the surface, while we can use the mounts underwater.

gona point this out but for u'r sujestion 2, when u gain fly'ing in-zone it does that, sorta looks like a clooser to water surface version of 3.0 fly animation, but point is when u can FLY in-zone u don't dismount when coming outa water on flyable mount (not sure on if u ride from land to water when u have fly'n unlocked haven't checked but from flight to water works as long as u hit it at an angle))

I agree with your point B. Point A, however is based on the size of the zone more than anything. The underwater areas are far larger in size then they appear when you are above water. If you make it non-transitionable, you will be shrinking the area of the underwater zones significantly.

They can make swimming better by adding a barefoot option.

I agree, there has to be a zoning transition or it would be too taxing on certain hardware, probably on the servers too as they seem a common weak point.

I was very surprised that my Syldra mount can fly, walk & swim but not float on water. It makes moving through "surface swim only" water incredibly taxing.

I believe there's a "decency" problem with showing the soles of the feet as in a lot of countries/cultures it is classed as bad manners or possibly even pornographic. It is easier to always show a shoe/foot covering than have to adjust the game for certain regions to prevent bans or adult classification.

Agreed. At the very least when we travel through the water into one of those underwater bubbles, it should just drop us from wherever we entered. I don't like just appearing on the ground in the same spot regardless of where I entered. Let me fall from the sky!

watch the live letter from hamburg Germany. They explain the transition and why they have it.

ya the mount thing is weird, it should work much like flying, or adding a doggy paddle animation for chocobo.

I actually rather like the transition sequence, but then i load pretty fast so it just goes woosh and im underwater.

Same here, it takes my SSD all of 2 seconds to load the water up so it feels really natural. When swimming in the real world there's always that moment of bubbly blindness going in or coming out, that's exactly what it feels like.

But I can imagine how painful it might be on a platter HDD that takes 20 seconds to load the zone.

May I suggest you go to many Arabic countries & show the soles of your feet. What would you like; stoning or lashing, your choice? Don't forget to pay the fine too before you get deported. Or maybe you want to do it in Thailand & offend someone greatly.

You could also go to Greece & show the palm of your hand & see what happens. Try it in Nigeria if you want to start a tribal war.

Don't mock the rules & customs of others just because you're ignorant. Even worse, don't mock someone who is giving a reason as to why things are as they are.

But we have bare hands in the game, and games are localized for a reason so the "other countries custom" is not really a valid reason not to do it.

For A) I find the transition with bubbles really great, no need to change it.
For B) I agree that if our mounts can dive with us, they should be able to swim on the surface too. lol
But still, the swimming and diving is amazing to me. I really enjoy it so as spearfishing!

You can actually mount and swim on the surface once you unlock flying... Though by that point you really don't need to.

I'd like to see hidden treasure hunting places underwater personally. It could be a new gathering profession called salvaging or something like that where you find underwater caches that contain items with chances for rare things like minions, mounts or glamours.

I do agree with point B as well.
I found it kind of disappointing how (in Costa Del Sol) we'd just dismount as soon as we touched the water instead of swimming with a mount that can dive. I mean, I was a bit disappointed as well by the "swimming" animations of mounts simply being slow-mo versions of their flying animations, but that's an other story.
Mounts that can dive should be able to swim on the surface just as much, it would be nice to have

Whats the point of those suggestions exactly ?!

The real problem is the underwater things are totally useless unless if u want to stab a fish!!!!!!!!!!

The heck? Leave us out of this ridiculous claim, we have no such thing. It's not custom nor culture or anything, it's just the matter of manners. Who actually showing other people the soles of their feet? Pretty sure if you shows the soles of the feet to anyone, you would get a frown.

But this swimming thing is not a fashion show of your soles of feet though? Do you always swim with your shoes on?

I feel that Magitek Armor mounts should get an unlockable Torpedo emote.

I actually had the misconception before that the underwater areas are separate from the map but then I saw someone swimming on the surface while I was underwater. You can also see people inside the underwater air bubbles and vice versa. So, yeah, they are not actually "separate" even though it looks like it is. Still wished it was more seamless like the one in Archeage, though.

Late to the party, and a potentially unpopular opinion, but I really, really wish Diving/Swimming mounts and Flying mounts were kept separate.

While you may find it silly, it legitimately annoyed me when I got Syldra and found myself hovering and flying for no sane reason. And now that I'm actually in the SB areas and dealing with diving, having my birds, dragons, etc. (including a sodding cloud of all things) function as underwater mounts without even giving new animations to them is feeling really, really irksome to the point I'd almost rather forego them.

May sound extreme, but I'd just rather we not have gotten diving if its not going to get the polish it deserves. :-/

You don't dismount when you fly into the water or fly out of the water.

You can fly right into the water...splash into the water and less that half a second later you are underwater. Likewise, you can fly right out of the water into the sky with a seamless move.

The only thing I can think of is, you havent learned flying yet

About A. Are you on a regular PS4? Because my load time is literally less than a second

The only thing I'd like to have added for swimming/diving would be mounts swimming.
I'd love to be able to walk my chocobo into the water and then have him swim like a duck. Would be great for not being able to fly or people who want to "boat" around.



Add to that, give certain mounts(looking To you fat chocobo and mana slicer) the ability to let us fish off them. =D

I like swimming and diving, but underwater looks so empty, when you see the video in the Benchmark you see alot of fish swimming around, what happend to do those fishes?

I like how everyone has suggestions they think can easily be implemented. It's like they know everything about the server infrastructure SE uses for two different platforms....

Okei most of the player looks already pronographic in their way of trying to show their titts or walk around like strippers or man walking around in tangas in ff xiv. I dont see why barefoot is a problem.

I find it hard to believe that they would refuse to add bare feet for that reason when we've got this in the game:

Besides, the devs have previously said that giving us proper barefoot models would require too much work, since all the models are currently designed with an ilm or so of extra space for the soles of your sandals. The only barefoot options would be to make everyone have extra large feet or to have people floating in the air slightly. (Apparently they're incapable of moving barefoot people down an ilm.)

if we went by that logic, ARR would have never happened and Final Fantasy XIV would be like those really nasty side bin games...you know...because of those who remained loyal and were fans didn't know the intricacies of server and program management so they better not have raised a voice!

Rather, SE went off of the fanbase complaints and bad reviews and took them to heart and then got a group of folks who can program and used the fans' and others suggestions to make it happen

No one says it's easy. Again, ARR would have never come to like if people thought that would be easy.
