Are you sure you're recollecting every tank armor set in the game? Because if you'd stop having selective memory for a moment, you'd see there are more "heavy" tank armor than "hooker" ones.
People BEGGED AND PLEADED for tank gear that wasn't just a a block of steel scooting along the ground.
Just vanity the old, heavy stuff.
What revealing costumes? Part of the reason I can't invest in tanking is because of the limited attire options for those of us not wanting to be a tin can with ridiculously-sized pauldrons.
Alexander Creator set is most definitely not a hooker costume.
I remember all those Gordian, Midan and Creator hooker armors.
I too also remember the Behemoth King hooker armor.
I also do remember the Dravinian hooker armor.
Or the Valkyrie hooker armor.
Hell, anyone remember how both AF4 sets are hooker costumes?
My sarcasm is reaching its limit for today so I'll stop there.
Thanks but no thanks. Darklight stuff made me look like a walking tin can. I'd rather not look like that again.
that stuff was uggggly
Sushilvl 63 dungeon gear aside, most of the SB sets have been pretty decent imo.
The verity set is nice.
Real tanks wear bikinis.
And bunny ears!
Indeed, the heavy armor outweighs the light armor for tanks by a factor of about 15 to 1, possibly more. Don't even get me started on armor (especially tank) that has a feminine look for females and masculine for males since there are precious few of those for anyone of any role.
Honestly, I'd love some good berzerker style armour. That's what I feel is missing from XIV.

Thong of Fending now, please.
:)
For underwater themed, they could give us an armored deep sea diving suit even. It's great lots of people want to see scantly clad cat girls and all, but some of us prefer something more macho.
More macho? Something like more or less every other freaking set of armor in the game you mean?
P.S.
Out of posts for today, so adding this here.
Scantily clad catgirls for the win....

(It's an old picture, but it seems to fit the topic...)
...and yes, the armor we used for the picture was done as a joke, we wanted to see how stupid you could be with the basic dyes and scanty armor. Although the results do have a certain aesthetic, they are seldom used in regular content.
Huh, last time I checked I wasn't a scantily clad catgirl. The colour may not be "macho" but it very much is still armor. Anyway, how even is a tin can macho? It's a tin can!

I deliberately avoid equipping tin-can armor when leveling tanks in that 25-30 range before you manage to pick up the Brayflox set.
Agreed. HQ Scale armor was my friend then.
Posting here as I am out of posts for the day it seems...
I'd like to see some dragoon like form fitting scale armor (without the superfluous spikes) for tanks , with male/female differences as appropriate. Unisex might be fine for Supa-cuts, but armor is expensive, I shouldn't have to wear something designed to accommodate a Roe but scaled to my female Miqo'te frame. It should be designed for a female figure and aesthetic, just as the male version should be designed for the male figure and aesthetic.
I'm not suggesting bikini armor or other completely impractical armors (though a few more of those would not be out of place in a fantasy setting), I am suggesting armor for females that lacks the fake male musculature, no more rock hard abs and pecs with pecs. Sometimes skirt instead of pants, sometimes form fitting boots and gauntlets instead of ill fitting plates that clip each other every time I breath.
Thinking about the topic in general... I mean, I see this topic asking for more bulky, metal armor when in my view the game forces tanks especially to wear little else. I can't see how anyone can seriously think we need more focus on those larger metal armors. Certain styles of metal armor, I guess I can see an argument for that. But please don't frame that request (as the OP did) by taking a misogynistic swipe at female tanks and the stereotypical scantily clad female warriors. In fact, why not request many styles or armor, both bulky and fitted, unisex and gender specific, heavy and light, revealing and not. I mean, Conan the Barbarian wore little more than a fur covered loincloth, but it didn't stop him from annihilating all in his path, did it? Maybe some male characters want that kind of armor? Maybe some female characters would like the female version. What's wrong with that? Nothing.
The way some people react to armor like the Shisui set is almost puritanical, and yet FFXIV is relatively speaking quite chaste compared to just about any other fantasy MMORPG. I won't bother naming names, but I think most people are aware that the wardrobe options for females in other games are - to put it mildly - more exciting than the ones we have. Though I am not sure that all such designs would be suited to Eorzea, there is no reason why certain styles and elements should not be seen.
I would love to see some decent heavy armor looking gear for Tanks. So far I've been disappointed in some of the paladin armor that I've seen. Though I really enjoy the look of the hellfire gear set look. If we could get more stuff similar to that, and maybe a little more badass looking, would be appreciated. While it is amusing to wear skimpy clothing as a tank, I want an actual tank looking outfit. I probably will keep the hellfire look as glamour for my lvl70 gear once I get there.
I also miss and want more shiny heavy plate armors. Also I would like to see more chainmail armors for DRGs as well. I just wish we could get more "job" themed gear more often rather than once in every expansion.
My favorite set remains the Heavy Wolfram armor.
It is basically the Darklight stuff, but without the fixed-neck helmet.
I'd like to see High Mythril armor get the same treatment, remove the forced helmet and let me wear that. Now that looks like armor.
A nice thing about games is that you get to dress however you like without any consequences. I would welcome more "hooker" armor in addition to the two sets we currently have.
That is true. In mst of the dungeons the armor model for tanks are the same for dragoons (only with different colors)
