Suggestion: Foot-based mounts

this concept is simply suggesting to add "mounts", or just simply your character running at mount speed.

i think it would be fun if we had three types of running animations:

the first animation would just be a very powerful sprint. possibly with debris in the players wake as they run. slightly more visually exaggerated than the default running animation.

the second would be more relaxed and swift. much like the running animations for Ninjas, accept without weapons to wield.

finally, it would not be right to not add a comedic running animation.

as for summoning these "mounts", personally, i would like it if players took a stance instead of the default animation.

to add, it would be nice to finally install a high-jump mechanics and animations to some ground mounts in general within flight-available regions.

thoughts?

I made a topic like this and I'm 100% in favor. And now that we have swimming animations, I figure it shouldn't be too difficult to modify that for flight animations.

i agree that flying animations would be cool to have.

however, in my personal opinion (not to be mistaken for disagreement), somebody flying in the game just feels like it would not fit with the game. even though my own concept is over-exaggerated.

in the end, its a "why not" situation, so dont take my opinion seriously.

this just reminds me of City of Heroes and the various travel powers T-T

Kind of like a flying Syldra or a Elbest that cant swim?

I agree though that would bother me more than the two I mentioned.

EDIT: At least they could let ground mounts swim instead of dismounting or diving.

i agree. i know nothing about swimming mounts quite yet, but i suppose its common sense to simply have ground mounts at least swim on the surface.

Make us get struck by lightning and then put lightning around and behind us as we run.

it would be cool if we had all types of elemental-based animations for a completely different mount types. unlike foot-based mounts, elemental type mounts would be like using explosions to propel your character for fire, creating an icy surf for ice and water, they already have this nimbus-type mount for air, and as you have explained it for lightning.

In all seriousness though, I would like to see what is essentially a Sprint with infinite duration, usable in towns and gets cancelled upon getting attacked.

Nah, this basically eliminates the need to have a mount in the first place. Though there is one kind of mount that I wish existed. A "Lalafell shoulder mount", eg a player in the same party can pick up any lalafell in their party and run with them. A Roe could also pick up any Hyur, Miqo'te, or Au Ra. The fact that we see Nanamo riding on Raubahn suggests that this should be possible.

I can easily see this as a reward for Hildibrand.

I want a Magiteck Jet pack/rocket boots now. when using the rocked boots on the ground your character used the rockets to sprint really fast.

I was gonna say I'm against this idea strictly because it doesn't feel like an FF thing, but then again there were those rocket rollerblades in chocobo racing...

it makes more and more sense once you think about it.

for example, the ninja of FFXIV seem to be doing a lot of background travel. they do not appear to use mounts at all, but they are still able to get from one region to another.

another example are the dragoons, who are meant to slay aerodynamic enemies, thus they need to jump at extreme distances and heights.

monks themselves seem extremely agile mostly in cinematic and lore.

As a Dragoon, I want to be able to Jump high up in the air and rapidly twirl my lance around so I can fly like a helicopter.

All classes can have their own flying technique depending on how cuhrayzee you wanna get. Monks can Elixir Field around, Arcanists can fly on their carbuncles, and DRKs could do their Buster Sword spin.

sarcasm aside, it would be interesting to have class/job specific mounts.

Players can run at mount speed. It's called sprint. Running at mount speed outside of combat is asking for a permanent sprint. Also, the day characters can fly around like Dragon Ball Z with their gear on, is the day FFXIV jumps the shark.

i would love if they add in a "mount" that would be us swimming in the air at mount speed they could even reuse the old bubble from say brayflox normal to give an excuse :3
