Samurai released too soon

I'm not saying he shouldn't have released during stormblood, but they should've waited a few updates like how they did it with ninja in ARR. Right now there's such a lack of healers and evne the people I play with are a sam or rdm with the ratio being 9:1 for samurai.

So hard to find healers to play with and even if I go heal myself you mostly run into tanks that pull more than I personally can handle atm (considering I haven't played a healer since ARR). Queues are just brutal atm. 50mins for a dungeon that will take less than 30mins to complete....


Or just allow rdm to choose their role and replace verholy or verflare with a Vermedica? (wishful thinking ;) )

Personaly i think it would have been much more favorable to release the Samurai(to match the theme) along with healer and leave Red Mage for the next expansion along with a tank. There was a lack of healer/tanks even in HW and they only made it worse.

Dunno, it was just the perfect storm of everything they did compounded the problem. They introduced jump pots, which added more players to the top end adding even more players to the queue, 2 dps jobs that were heavily requested and no new tanks and healers, and some tanks and healers don't like the job changes so they also switched to DPS. They also started a welcome back campaign right at launch.

I don't think there would have been as much hype for SB if they delayed Samurai though.

According to Yoshida, DRK and AST did almost nothing to get more people playing tanks and healers and just caused the existing pool to spread out more.

They did a lot for my queue times.

Funny thing. I made an alt and have been playing Paladin almost exclusively on it. Might do WHM, SAM, and RDM eventually, mind you, but still. I'm pretty happy with the Paladin Changes, and I've always been attracted to that particular aesthetic; Shield and Sword. By comparison Dark Knight holds a little interest but not enough to make me want to try it (I just don't see a two-handed sword as a very tank appropriate weapon), and I have no interest in Warrior even though all my friends keep telling me its the best since it puts out the most DPS out of the three tanks (again, an axe isn't an appropriate tank weapon to me).

I'm not sure what new Tank Square could add that I would want to play. Sword and Shield is pretty much exactly what I want and what I have.

As for Healer, well, fix White Mage and we'll talk. Scholar doesn't appeal to me and Astrologian irks me because of the card gimmick. I'd rather have crystals or something other than Madam Cleo reading my fortune.

Meh, the queue times are as bad as expected but honestly I'll gladly endure them for being able to play RDM. It's such a well designed job and the first dps job I've really enjoyed since ARR Bard. I'm sure there are people enjoying SAM just as much and I wouldn't want job releases delayed because of queue times.

This is the same situation as server queues. It doesn't matter who was there first or who has played the role the longest. Players have the means to solve the issue for themselves if they choose to.

Except Yoshi said he would never release another class mid expansion like that. Don't ask for the source, I'm just parroting others.

We're most likely never going to see another job released mid-expansion like NIN did. And frankly, it was a stupid move for them to release one dps job during a time when there was nothing to do for the players except level the shiny new NIN. It screwed the df pretty hard iirc. And honestly, SE has only themselves to blame for making the healer and especially tank roles so damn boring. I don't get it. There was obviously a lot of love and care that went into making SAM and RDM yet none of that was extended towards the tanks except for PLD. I for one don't plan to tank at all this expansion. SE clearly doesn't know what the players like about any of the tank jobs so they take away the very things that make WAR and DRK unique. But I won't get on that soap box again.

TL;DR: SE made the dps jobs way more interesting than the roles of tank and healer, hence why there are so many dps right now. And SE has only themselves to blame for gutting jobs that didn't need it.

It's never too soon to release a new class. What they should of done however was balance it out with a TANK as well to keep DF flowing.

The time a class/Job is released has no baring concept on how many people will play it. Just the fact its a new thing everone wants to try.

I think the thing people are missing, is the issue has little to do with new DPS releases as it does with the AWFUL changes made to healers and tanks.

SCH is pretty much worthless and VERY unfun to play. I've said it a million times on here, making us reliant on a now nerfed pet that reacts with all the speed of an elderly women glued to the floor is not fun at all. Fey Union is just as worthless as dissipate.

WHM - While better than SCH due to the kit being mostly unharmed from HW and the addition of Thin Air, the confession system is busted and clearly added on just to add random complexity. Lillies are fine, if a bit silly.

THis means if I want the same kind of fun I had in HW healing I am mostly relgated to AST and some WHM. Many SCH mains are salty as hell right now, and rightly so.

I don't play tanks, but I hear the complaints on here from the non-PLD's.

You don't make the least played groups of classes LESS fun and then expect people to play them.

It costs $50 to get a single new character boosted to the start of Stormblood. I really doubt the number of people doing this is that many.

A lot of people are talking about long queues, damage nerfs, damage discrepancies between similar jobs, etc. The real problem is not mechanics nor number wise. It's an enjoyement problem. I really loved all of the stormblood activities and MSQs so far, cleared all the content and i'm happy with that. But I don't see a reason why I should keep playing as tank since the entire role is not enjoyable anymore (i'm not talking about damage nerf, i'm talking about the absence of rotation fillers, possibility to build up enmity and fill gauges at the same time, absence of satisfying skills to unleash on enemies).
Tanks (as every other role, see SCH) need to be happy while playing their job. If this problems and feedbacks are not looked into, will lead to major problems for the game, since both tanks and healers are essential roles. Now we have 50minutes+queues for dps, roles, but expect them go up over the course of the next months. There's no concrete reason why wait times would go down.

2 new DPS classes I think had less to do with it and more along the lines of what they did to SCH and WHM. Both classes got hit pretty hard with nerfs and ability losses.

Depends. If they were already 60 and didn't want to trudge through all the quests to get to SB it doesn't cost quite that much.

Don't forget drk and war. Whm is actually ok in the end but when it comes down to it, if you are not AST or PLD, you are subpar. SE doesn't seem to understand how people play these classes and why they liked it =/ in the vase of whm they seem to not understand the class at all...

edit: I would also like to point out that even the top healer AST, is suffering form the new class gauge offering less options then before (removing royal road) and making AST synergy harder.

they ruin tankings for 95% of my friends
only PLD are happy an not many around my circle.

Well on our Servers there is almost no Tanks anymore, loads of main-Tanks, myself included, switched to Samurai because they murdered Warrior and DRK.

I'm playing as RDM and haven't had to wait longer than 30 minutes for any dungeon since launch. Most of the time I get a queue pop in ~20 minutes.

I'm curious where people are that are supposedly having these "insane" queues.

They release it later, and everyone switches to play Samurai, thus solving nothing.

depends on data center too

I do get a queue that always say more than 30 minutes, after #50. Don't really bother me that much since I can just alt-tab out to Netflix.

Pretty funny once I was #5 on the list, but the queue still displayed more than 30 minutes though(it popped within 7 minutes)

Simply add more incentives to play as tank or healer and that will get queues moving. Mounts are nice, but what about other features.

Here are a few suggestions for rewards when players choose to tank or heal:

1. RNG-based rare item drops exclusively for tanks and healers after completing a dungeon (ie. Rare weapons and gear).
2. Increased tomes, gil, seals for duties. (Current adventurer-in-need rewards are too low).
3. MGP card drops after completion of duties.
4. Minion prizes exclusively for tanks and healers for completing X number of duties.
5. Random housing item drop for completing trials/mentor roulette.

These are just some ideas, but it's definitely a start!
