Unlocking abilities

Wasn't SB supposed to rework and simplify the whole "having to be level X with your job unlocked to have access to most of your abilities to be able to fully enjoy your class"?

If I take my THM as an example: depending on the situation I literally only have to press a few buttons consisting of fire, blizzard, transpose and thunder.

I was hoping the class will get better once I've unlocked my job so I forced myself to get to lvl 30 - but no: even having BLM unlocked I still have the same boring abilities while almost being forced to get to lvl 70 to fully unlock all my abilities to have a real shot at actually testing the class in its entirety to see if it suits me or not.

The rework you're referring to is the rework of the Cross Class functions, not reworking how jobs in entirety work. For example, previously you had to level THM to 26 for Swiftcast, which was a mandatory class skill for healers. Now, you just need to be 32 on any of the casters or healers to unlock Swiftcast. They also removed having to level another class to 15 to unlock a job. If you want to experience how a job functions at 60+, the only option currently is Palace of the Dead, which will give you a pretty alright idea of rotations on the boss floors.

Run POTD to 60, that takes an hour or two. That gives you enough of a demo to know whether or not you will like it

Those things I already know.
It's still strange that you remove attributes, remove the 2nd class requirement for jobs and rework the cross-class abilities - while leaving the whole "having to be lvl 70 to unlock every ability" intact.

The full toolkit is always just at levelcaps.
All before levelcap will lead you to your full tollkit by introducing it in small parts to you, so you wont be overwhelmed by it.
Some toolkits are more or less complete below or at level 50 but most jobs are getting major additions with the new abilities and some just QoL.

all casters have the same class abilities now


and blm gets more fun later on , once u get enochian and can use Fire IV blizzard IV and manage to keep enochian and of course astral fire :) , and no idea about SB , but once u have enochian for more than 30s u are able to use Foul :D

Er, what? You're complaining that you don't have access to all skills at level 1 or something? What kind of mechanic are you expecting where leveling up doesn't grant you access to more and better tools?

Only counting the abilities as you can see them in your spell book.

I'm closing in on being half of the current max. level of 70 and so far I've only unlocked 9/26 abilities.
Pretty meager.

Level 30 MNK and 9 actions overall.
Half of the current max level of 70 is roughly 35, and you're still at 9 actions. That's really comparable and really not that far apart from each other. I wonder if some of your complaints don't stem from the fact some of our skills are support in nature rather than part of the rotation, but they're just as invaluable if not more.

Level 30 takes about a day....you're complaining you don't have your entire skill set in a day?

PotD did a good job if you want to find out, if you like a class in endgame.

Sadly, PotD isn't up for lvl 70 yet...

I'm lvl 30/70 meaning close to halfway as far as leveling goes and yet I barely have access to 1/3 of my abilities.

For being almost halfway done with leveling I should have access to more abilities than only 1/3 of them.

I'm not really sure if you're new to this but in most mmo's you don't have every ability unlocked for a class/job until max level, that's kind of a given. If you want to get a good idea of how a class is fleshed out get to floor 50 in PoTD where you can play with a level 60 kit. I get you are under the impression that they were going to completely redesign all of their classes from the ground up, which is obviously not the case. All of the class information updates have been available for quite a while now.

I wonder if some of this doesn't have to do with the renovation of the system. We lost Apopo--- and Swiftcast to Role actions. Swiftcast you'd have gotten at level 26, not sure if you get something else there or not. My guess is no, which means your count should've been higher than it is currently.
Still, it's a support skill compared to a part of the rotation or should I say - the mechanism of it, something I feel BLMs have more of than others. Our rotation isn't all that complex in # of skills we have, but rather keeping a certain buff up so we can utilize our heavy hitters. In that core sense, even pre SB, our 60 rotation wasn't inherently different than our 50 one. Not like we suddenly had another combo tree like some melee classes, mostly our filler changed. Blm's complexity isn't in the # of skills, but how you use them. One of the things I like about it.

I really hope they change that, I get the people who own HW but not SB would probably be annoyed at being locked out of it, but considering SB includes HW that is eventually going to become an absolutely minuscule percentage of the playerbase.

This is pretty true to be fair, the low end of leveling is pretty bereft of abilities now. Putting so many of them in the last twenty levels was not the best idea SE have ever had.

But you're not really halfway done with leveling. Just looking at the numerical number of your level doesn't tell you how close you are to done leveling. Being level 10 isn't 1/7th of reaching level 70, it takes less than an hour.

Yeah but of you look at it in terms of exp instead of levels.. you dont even deserve 9 actions lol. Rigjt now my tnl is 5mil.. 5mil could level 1-30 several times

Ohh. See, your problem seems to be this assumption that you gain skills at a linear rate.

I would imagine devs balance action acquisition to line up with available content.

You don't have much to work with at low level because there's nothing truly difficult enough to require more of your kit.

This. You gain abilities at a much faster pace once you hit 50 as it's every other level a skill and/or a trait. Up to 50 it's slower so most of our skills are packed in 50-70
