FEEDBACK: I don't even want to play anymore (RE your bad launch)

I wanted to give you a view of how your inconsiderate behavior in the last two days has affected your playerbase.

We all logged in Friday morning, excited to play your game, dreaming of leveling up and exploring content with our friends. Instead, we all hit the bottleneck. People would occasionally get through, while the majority stayed behind, caught in endless spam of hope and despair. By the time the rest of us got through this morning our friends were so far ahead there is no hope catching up until we're all 70. What should have been an exciting release ended up strongly dividing communities. Splitting friends, regardless of the technical reason, is so massively jerky that I can't even fathom how you thought it was ok.

I am disgusted to the extreme by your treatment of your playerbase and your complete lack of response yesterday. If you cared at all about your player base you would have provided updates and encouragement, not silence.

First world problems.

I don't think anyone is trying to silence you, but when you come around talking as if you speak for everyone, you're naturally going to attract criticism for your own actions.

SE may have made mistakes in this launch, but they're trying their best, and that to you qualifies as extremely poor treatment to the playerbase. You have no basis for what you speak of, and so you've simply made a heartfelt post containing nothing but your own negative feelings.

If something like this is splitting friendships up, can you even call them friends to begin with? Real friends don't fight over stupid stuff like this.

Congratulations. Your thread has earned one of my once-in-a-red-moon forum posts here.

I'm getting tired of all of this incessant whining from entitled, impatient players. There are TONS of things that you can do either on your own or with your friends that don't involve going through the MSQ bottlenecks. You KNEW this would happen, it's early access for an incredibly hyped major MMO expansion. There is not a major MMO or hyped DRM-regulated single player game these days that doesn't experience this crap.

Two brand new jobs that start at 50! Level them!

The bottlenecks do not prevent you from leveling your main jobs! Do FATEs or explore the new revamped PVP content (which gives tons of EXP) with your friends!

Do the OTHER MSQ quests since half the people stuck on Raubahn haven't even cleared The Peaks yet.

This expansion has had a much smoother launch than most MMO expansion launches I've experienced. Stop whining like entitled brats and find other things to do in this game, THERE'S LOTS OF IT AVAILABLE TO YOU. Also, there are thousands of people who wish they could be in your shoes being able to actually PLAY and TRY new content! But they can't either because they don't have early access, no internet connection for a while, or they're away for work. They might not be able to play for months!

"Oh but who cares about all that I just wanna do the MSQ! I'm a paying customer!" Well I'm a paying customer too and I don't want to have to deal with all YOU people whining like spoiled children! Tough titty for me I guess, huh?

Either play the game and shut up or log off and free up a slot for the others who actually want to experience the expansion and don't care about guaranteed bugs.

As i said in another post, they don't care about the players at all. In the end this is a business for them, they need to make money. So they're going to do whatever is cheapest.

I find this a blessing in disguise. I thought certain people were my friends, until they were giving me a lot of hate/trouble because I managed to get through the bottleneck while they were stuck. Even though I had no control over it.

I do agree however that we have a rocky start, but at least on Hyperion(hopefully other worlds too) things are improving and moving along. So, it took some time, but I still get to enjoy the early access of SB.

If its splitting up friendships, it sounds like all parties involved are immature brats. Sorry, its a GAME. Get over it.

If you've played over 40 MMOs over the years then you'll remember when WoW released Cataclysm and you'd end up stuck unable to log in, sometimes perpetually, and how it would crash often? How it took them a couple of days to fix that kind of stability and meanwhile you'd often get stuck in hours long queues? I remember. Sounds an awful lot like this since I couldn't progress for a while then either. Or what about when WoW released Warlords and it took FOREVER to build a garrison with server crashes galore? Took better than a day to progress then too.

I'm not saying that SE gets a free pass, I'm just saying that it's pretty much par for the course. Did it suck, yes. Has it gone on too long, yes. But it's not unique.

I was pretty upset until this morning when I finally got threw Raubahn and Pipin. Honestly I hope a lesson is learned here and this doesn't happen again. My anger however is almost all gone and has given way to sheer joy in the new zones and the continued MSQ. I'm going to forgive but not forget, please in the future plan better for these things so people don't feel so upset.

You haven't experienced 2.0, me thinks. That was the worst pain in the ass.

Now put the whinebottle away and play. Mistakes were made, but they're actively attempting to repair the issue.

They already have your 40 bucks, you have their expansion, and you're not going to play because there were some issues in the first 48 hours? You're going to abandon a two year expansion just because they accidentally took away your weekend? Grow up.

So...friendships were split over a video game. I wonder how would the same people react while playing mario party or mario kart.

I was one of the lucky people that made it through the first night. You know what I did? I waited for my friends. Sounds like these "friends" of yours suck, sorry.

Have you considered that they're working on trying to fix these problems?
Or considered that they're monitoring the situation for all 24 hours of the day?
Even considered that the producer himself has apologised for the situation?

Your post comes off a bit inconsiderate to me.

We should collect these quitting threads and make a thread a month from now showing who is still playing by showing their active character page.

Are you kidding me? Not everyone is interested in the new jobs and only want to level their current ones.
PvP? People have been TRYING to. They get dc'd and back in the queue. The same thing happened to solo job quests. People still catching up to Stormblood couldn't continue further into Heavensward nor ARR MSQs due to Duty Finder problems. People DID try to do other things but they couldn't. They have a right to be upset. And this is coming from someone who did do other things like level my new main, RDM, while also wasting hours getting kicked out of PvP, Dungeons and RDM job quests. How can you tell these people to shut up? They are mad and rightfully so. :/

The problem is the mistakes are so obvious. They have been embolden by the defense of single player instances and gating of story. If people hadn't thought they were so FFFFNNN awesome, maybe we wouldn't have had this issue. They are throttling players through 20k at a time. How many players preorder, how many instances run stable, and how many instances are at the start of SB including lvl 60jobs. Simple math that they all have access to.

Dear SE, a suggestion for you for the future. Expect your entire playerbase to log on and attempt to do things at the same time for your next expansion launch. In preparation, do like you do with the Hall of the Novice instances, put in a queue. That way the servers are not overloaded, people are waiting, and people can EVENTUALLY get in. It may take hours for it to pop, but at least people can eventually get to them while doing FATEs, exploring new regions, and talking to other players. Also, please wait until AFTER the first dungeon to do so, that way people can also do the first dungeon to waste time and level their class if they do not wish to wait hours for a queue.

I am not sure any MMO has ever had this particular problem. This is not a server stability issue. This is a design gate issue. Most MMOs are not gated the way this game is. Even in 11 you could explore 3/4s of an expansion except for the worse one ever CoP. Co-op game might have had this issue though because you are just lobby and instance. So basically 14 is an open world lobby and instance with out the planning.

It's a crying shame that there are so many people on this forum that refuse to put a company like SE to a higher standard, especially after what they've done before.

The login queues I get, what i dont get is the absolute idiocy of whoever decided to limit instances in game...so that people got blocked from progression for nearly 3 days. that is not cool and people have a right to be bothered by it. Just as you boot lickers come here and praise the game endlessly, those ragey salt lickers have the same right to come here and give their opinion.

I'm more disgusted by the playerbase who felt so entitled that they keep spamming the forum with new threads on the same topic. What is the point of this? You're not going to see a forum moderator respond to everyone, no they will either ignore all but the stickied one (the one with the crown icon) or merge the rest.

If they start speculating about what is wrong, and then turn out to be wrong, then people get it into their mind that the company representatives are flat out lying to them all the time.

Take notice of how many toxic people started blaming Yoshi-P for this, even though Yoshi-P likely did not have a hand in the actual coding. No if you actually watch the credits to the game you will notice that Square-Enix outsources various parts of the game development. It's very likely that any issue with the game has more to do with the number of people it has to go through to find the source of a problem. You can not simply go "oh well the duty finder was borked, so let's fire the duty finder team and get new people" because that isn't how it works. Chances are everything was working correctly at launch but the actual cleanup phase was not, so only X many instances could be spawned and they failed to time out when people failed them or exited them, or disconnected from them. Many times bugs related to stress load show up only when put live, that will not be noticed during tests.

The evidence of such is how the error varied depending on what you did. The Raubhan "cold steel" quest would just go "system error" but not disconnect you. Doing the level 50 job quests for RDM or SAM would disconnect you and you would have to wait 15 minutes, if your server queue was longer than 15, you never got thrown back out, if it was just under 15, you got back to queues again. On Excalibur, I was seeing 500 long queues every time I was dropped trying to access those job quests, and I tried them multiple times over the initial day. The Duty finder at 2am just wasn't having it, and you either got a DF queue or you sat in the queue with 1/1 1/1 2/2 for an hour before it reset, or it reset after 20 seconds. I lucked out and had most of the V3 end game stuff work without a hitch while people were getting stuck at Raubhan.

So that tells me another thing, that the solo duties appear to use the same data-center wide mechanism the regular duty finder uses, and thus any particular duty is full, you still get an unlabeled queue while it waits, and if that queue is full, that is why you get disconnected.

People think it works like this

User - Login gateway - Server (world/field, dungeons, solo content)
when it likely looks more like this
User - Login gateway (data center) - Servers(inventory) - (map server) - Party/Duty Finder - Instance server x
Where the Instance server for the multiplayer content is likely one physical machine that can do 1000 or so connections, and the party/duty finder process on the map server has to delegate which server has that instance. But it's very likely that the V2.x V3.x and V4.x solo content connections in a way that prevents oversubscription to avoid disconnection. Like if anyone forgets, V4.x has several very long solo sequences, which I believe the reason for Raubhan 's "cold steel" quest and Pippin's quest right after that are both extremely long by comparison to the battles you have at the end of 3.x solo.

So they could have just solve this by having the same DF mechanics for solo that they do for parties, sure it ruins the immersion quite a bit if you can just queue for something and then wander off killing FATE's while you wait. But not every occurrence is like that. In the case of "cold steel" there are FATE's that spawn right next to the "cold steel" quest, and it would not be unrealistic to at least stay on the same map for that one.

Another "load" issue shows up later after you do the solo-instance where you're chased around Kugane. Right after this one, you're in the office, but it took about a dozen tries to actually get the next map instance to start, otherwise you'd end up in an empty office, and just have to keep trying.

Bugs like this will happen, and MMO players know this and should expect instability for the first four weeks after a launch or expansion launch. If they are smart and want to plan around it, they would simply not subscribe during that period.

I just want one answer who makes the decision to create all these solo instances in MSQ that prevent you from exploring 4.0, if they don't have enough. We are talking a choice by someone a gross negligence of what was available. If this had been some lame ass kill 5 grasshoppers and a cut scene would rdm/sam/blm/war had issues with their instances? You people all think we don't know launches have unforeseen issues. This is a design choice. The people who implemented it are fine they just work. But someone has to be responsible.

it was not constructive from the word go, there was nothing constructive about it at all. it was just a guy whining because his friends leveled higher than he could. and then playing the victim card when people didn't say "oh poor baby." I'll save my constructive comments for constructive threads.
