Crafting ... please save my sanity!

Firstly, I'm really looking forward to the patch later! I don't want to rage too much about crafting but I wanted to comment on one or two gripes i have XD

Is it me or has crafting seriously been given a shafting since the last patch? I like to craft; I like to create my own gear and take great pride in wearing gear I know I have made myself. However, its beginning to take its toll. I'm happy that the vast majority of recipes no longer require guild support. It was a pain having to travel from city to city just to get the buff, when the common ones just weren't enough. Ever since the last major patch when the new recipes came in, I have noticed that practically every single recipe destabilises at some point. I can understand this on recipes that are numerous levels above you this would happen frequently even on recipes that are similar to my level. I have just tried 15 recipes this morning as a L27 CUL doing a L30 recipe. 13 destabilised!! I always wear rank appropriate gear and upgrade my tools as soon as a higher ranked one is available. I can complete one recipe with 80+ durability remaining and then the very next recipe, very likely goes something like this:

You use Standard Synthesis. The attempt fails!
Progress increases by 7%.
Durability decreases by 14.
You use Standard Synthesis. The attempt fails!
Progress increases by 3%.
Durability decreases by 18.
You use Standard Synthesis. The attempt fails!
Progress increases by 5%.
Durability decreases by 18.
You use Standard Synthesis. The attempt fails!
Progress increases by 10%.
Durability decreases by 13.
You use Standard Synthesis. The attempt fails!
Progress increases by 10%.
Durability decreases by 14.
You use Standard Synthesis. The attempt fails!
Progress increases by 9%.
Durability decreases by 12.
You use Standard Synthesis.
Progress increases by 17%.
Durability decreases by 10.
Quality increases by 3.

Not one of my buffs kicked in lol! I guess i should be grateful it didn't destabilise :P. Seriously though, how the hell are we supposed to compete with this?!!! Unsurprisingly, the synth ended with some very pretty fireworks lol! This has been happening all way too often ; ;

I really hope that SE are going to take a serious look into crafting VERY soon. I mean you can cap all your battle jobs in a matter of weeks and so pretty much all that is left to do at the moment is to craft, which just seems to be really broken right now. Sadly, a lot of people just probably wont have the patience for it (understandable) and just quit. I just wanted to see if anyone has been having major headaches with crafting?

Also, when a snyth succeeds, I can gain 12% progress and lose 8 durability. then I can fail the next, gain 10% progress and lose 10 durability! WTF XD. Of course, I can get a spectacular fail too and lose like 25+ durability in on attempt also!!

I know some changes are coming, but from what I recall in the patch notes, the relate mainly to traits and one or two recipe difficulty adjustments.

I just wanted to hear other people's comments, before I lose my mind lol!

Also, I would quite like to see a change to Hasty Hands. I wish that it would either succeed or fail completely. Losing half the durability seems to be just a kick in the teeth because chances are, the synth is as good as failed anyway! What do you guys think?

Crafting is definitely too random. You don't see battle classes going from utterly trouncing a monster one fight, to being utterly incapable of hitting it the next.

Risk accumulation is supposedly at fault for breaks and such, but with some crafts it doesn't make sense, if I keep doing the same actions first, the same abilities time in and time out, one craft should not gain more risk than another craft. (same recipe different synths)

ya its pretty random, but i dont think it has changed over what it was before.

Also as to your comment about hasty hands, generally I hasty hand something that is low so losing half durability is no big deal as the synth is easy and can still be finished.

Crafting's fine, but you're bad at it. Use Wait.

Crafting is ridiculous, a lvl10 crafter should not have a 50% fail rate on a lvl1 synth. Doesn't matter whether my orb is white or flashing, still fails too often.

im sorry 50% fail rate if thats what you have for something 10 levels below you, you are doing it wrong.

Then please explain how to do it right.

well I dont know what you are doing, but I can honestly say that I have a 90% success rate on crafts 5 levels higher than myself and close to 100% on things below my level unless I go for HQ and am spamming bold more than is necessary. Alot of people can level from jut spamming the enter key doing standard, and if 10 levels below your getting 50% fail rate, then gaining levels would be close to impossible

Maybe I'm just unlucky, I've got all the crafting gear i could find and it's all repaired, I just use standard synthesis and wait cuz I dont really care about the quality since it doesnt effect exp much, it's just too luck based imo, needs to be more skill based. Why does the synth become more unstable when I use the wait command? It shouldn't make the orb go from yellow to flashing. It's just too luck based. And thats my crafting rant.

I know how to craft but the point was that nearly every synth shouldn't be destabilising in the first place! It's flawed. Sometimes, having to hit wait like 7 times with the durability you lose you may as well just continue and blow the thing up!

@ Eruantien: I never Hasty Hands something higher than me but have had plenty of low rank recipes lose half their durability, all it takes is a couple of fails (which I usually get!) and KABOOM!! I guess I'm just sh*t out of luck XD

flashing isnt more unstable than yellow though, its just that it change compastibilithy type, but stabilithy also becomes higher.

yellow = bold / careful, this is an easier synth, but failing it makers it more unstable
red = anything, it gives great quality results, but it is a big chance for it blowing
white = standard, it fails almost never if youre in the right level range
flashing = rapid, a bit harder synth, success makes the orb more stable

in othrer words, flashing is often better than yellow

makers muse = bsm abilithy, makes standard easier
preserve = alch abiliothy, makes orb white for 2-5 rounds

Okay so there I was crafting away my ALC, I decided to do do some recipes a few levels higher than me because I had a tonne of fish sitting in my inventory. A lot people have said how much Hands of the Gods will save you from pulling your hair out so I decided I wanted me a piece of that! Everything was going well, I completed 9/10 which I thought was pretty impressive. I levelled (yay me!) and then failed 4/10 on the exact same recipe, which obviously makes perfect sense :|

I decided to buy the new Manual from the GC to try offset the exp from the botches. Synthing the same recipe again, I am at 8/15!! WTF? Asking around, a few people confirmed that they too have had more botches when under Crafter's Grace. Could a Dev please confirm whether or not Crafter's Grace affects the difficulty of a synth? If it is true, could you please also hit said person with a very big fish? What is the point of bonus exp if you actually fail more synths?? The maths dont add up.

Also in two weeks they want us to pay for this kind of backwards crap! HA!!

I'm pretty certain elemental instabilities and brand of abilities have changed quite a bit post 1.20
