Do NOT throw matches just to try and get your XP faster.

This is just like trying to afk through a PvE instance and reap rewards. It's even more frowned upon than botting, and you definitely don't want to make a name for yourself as someone who will sabotage his own team just to try and finish faster.

Those of use who enjoyed PvP even before the sweeping changes of 4.0 are happy to finally both enjoy our favorite in-game activity, AND still progress toward endgame in doing so. Many of us are also will to help newcomers learn how to PvP. But if you're the type of player just looking for quick easy XP, go run fates and don't sully a competitive gameplay mode by throwing.

Thats what it is going to be like for awhile, with the RDM and SAM. You got to admit that 600k exp for really no work if you throw a match is sweet if you think about it. I like that pvp que fast atm because I do enjoy pvp. However I do think it was a teribble move to add exp into pvp, should not have been done.

It's human nature to take the fastest laziest way to get to the end, sadly.

And yeah, throwing matches is lame. I think I've been on the end of that once or twice and it sucks. You show up to actually try to pull your weight and everybody else stands around with their thumbs up their butts hoping the match will be over faster. *sigh*

These people should be doing PotD or something instead.

By doing nothing and allowing the other team to win. Usually, this happens if 50% or more people in the group decide they're going to do nothing and just sit and let the other team take over their bases etc so that they win faster.

Probably by spawning in and go AFK. You can't be hurt or killed while in your little spawn/base thingy.

This is what I was thinking. I skip over the PvP section in the patch notes and wouldn't have known about this without this thread.

Vote kick the people who are afking.

Oh yes, I and any others I know will actively vote kick afk players. If I see them again, I have no issue reporting. This goes beyond "different playstyle" nonsense and is just blatant disruption of others enjoyment of the game. Last I knew, that was still reportable.

I'm not expecting every player in there to have squeaky clean morals, but many of them at least have integrity and a respect for competition. Just trying to use it as high yield, low effort leveling is pretty low.

Never thought I'd see these words uttered in such a context. I don't know if it's a good or a bad thing, but I was certainly amused.

This is why its a very bad idea to let PvP reward ANYTHING that can be useful in PvE.

PvE players like me hate PvP... your post has basically just let me know I can actually do this to get XP...

Ethically I don't think I will... unless I get really sick of PoTD on a second class...

But I can easily imagine a LOT of other people choosing to do it.

And really... people already do this in PvE... farming PoTD and avoiding chests, speed running with chain pulls of adds... these are all tricks people do because they can get away with it that actually reduce the challenge and enjoyment possible in the content.

So it is a bit naive to expect them to suddenly 'play proper' in PvP, when they find a way to 'gimmick' things and maximize the reward/time equation...

This is why I like how in Guild Wars 1, PvP auto-set any toon that entered to max level and normalized gear - and your rewards were only usable for things like PvP cosmetics. Likewise for one of the two forms of PvP in Guild Wars 2... but the other form (world v world v world) gives PvE XP... so people farm it...

Don't ever expect to enjoy your PvP again if it's giving PvE experience. Is this new? I never even considered looking at PvP in this game before...

Honestly if you kick people the only thing its going to do is cause them to "act" like they care so they don't. They may fight but neglect to heal, dodge or even run. Making a post about it, especially on an online game where we can all basically be anon you are drawing attention that we can do this. Not saying I would join and just sit there or not care, I do try when I join but those who had no interest may see this as an invitation more than a warning.

It disgusts me, but does not surprise me, that this is thing.

I have not done this. However, I hate to say it, is the problems with teh MSQ are not fixed when i wake up tomorrow. I will be doing this. I paid good money for teh preorder, which came with early release, so i could play on the weekend, which is my time off from a very busy work week. So, if teh only way to level up, since we cannot do the msq is pvp.....i will run in circles and leap around like a bunny if i have to. SOrry to disrupt YOUR entertainment for a few days, but we will have no choice.

It shouldn't give XP in PvP. Period. I also think that PvP gear should be changed to have absolutely 0 stats outside of PvP areas (so pointless to farm it). PvP and PvE are extremely different entities and in my eyes should be kept completely separate. Similarly, I also believe that PvE gear should give absolutely zero stats in PvP (but instead before you can first queue you're given a complementary set of basic PvP gear, so you're not going in with 0 gear). Possibly even have separate levelling systems in PvE and PvP and have them level independently off each other. I'm no PvPer so my ideas may be absolute trash, but given how very fundamentally different even in their ideologies the two gameplay styles seem to be, I feel it might work out for the best that way.

A few points to address:

1. Because of the new changes, and ability to PvP so long as you have a job unlocked, your gear does not matter at all. And the new PvP gear is nothing but glamour. Wear what you like.
2. I am glad PvP gives XP as it allows those who actually enjoy it (before and now) to enjoy their favorite content and still progress forward, just as Yoshi P said.
3. The benefit of drawing attention to this is information: I'm in no way name shaming here, but take note of anyone here making claims that they will NOT participate, or throw a match to gain XP faster, and use the tools given to you to handle it if you encounter them in game.
4. For the person who alluded to running in circles and jumping around like a bunny, or others with admitted hate for PvP: In saying this, you are saying as well that this will be acceptable behavior for one who likes PvP but dislikes dungeons, raids, or any other PvE content while participating with you in said content, right?

do not blame the issue on the classes, blame the lazy people who want to do it with as little effort as possible. I farmed potd to get my rdm to 60 as did many others due to the issue with the errors on sb causing people to crash.
