FC etiquette

Just a question for all the crafters out there. What is your etiquette around charging FC members for top level crafts? I had been charging Mat prices + 50k but some people believed that was gouging FC members. I have heard of people argue for all of the below equations:

Free- crafter eats the entire cost cause they are rich.
Mat cost only- crafter eats any failed crafts
FC/requester provides all mats no matter fail or succeed
Mat cost + set value
Mat cost * %
MB cost - % discount

So what are your formulas for top level crafts?

My personal opinion is that you should never charge your own FC anything. You're all there to help each other. Would you accept a charge if they ran a dungeon for you? Probably not, despite it being much more time consuming than a few minute whittle. However they should definitely provide their own mats.

I wouldn't charge FC member, it should be a perk, however materials don't grow on trees and they must provide them. Also Crafting, specially high level , should be given a disclaimer that not responsible for failed attempts. If they have a problem with that they can ask anyone else or start crafting themselves

Personally I don't charge FC members, I even provide low level material, since I usually have those in abundance. However I will ask them to bring harder to get mats, or HQ mats for higher level crafts.

I don't charge anyone for crafting anything. I say bring the mats and I'll make whatever you want.

I make anything that people want if they bring me the mats. Many people in the FC will tip me, anything ranging from 10k to 100k depending on the level of the item. I've made 4-star crafts for FC mates. If I volunteer to make something, e.g. leveling gear, I use my own mats or buy them myself. Our FC leader encourages tipping.

Depends on their level.

I've crafted a few small things for people for free and never minded, but I'm not a huge crafter for the big stuff.

As someone who's had people craft for me though... I ALWAYS tip them, especially because their my FC.

That to me is a bigger etiquette then being a crafter and worrying about charging

I don't charge unless I have to procure the materials myself. However, I never decline a tip.

I pretty much never charge, or accept tips. I state, "Make a donation to the FC chest." But, I am one of the authorized person's remove money from the chest. I do so regularly to purchase materials for the FC house stuff.

I usually don't charge my FC members though if they offer to pay me I'll only charge them the cost of materials. Usually my only requirement is that they bring me the mats from seals or lore tomes.

I don't charge, they bring mats, if I fail it's from my pocket.

I follow these same guidelines. The only mats I require are items purchased with tomes or GC seals. I usually have timed node and commonly used mats readily available. (Though, my FC mates tend to tack on 69 gil to every trade lol )

I don't charge, and usually won't ask for crystals/clusters - just the mats. For high level crafts, I'll ask for food as well if I need the CP. I don't usually do time consuming crafts, though (for example, I won't craft a set of levequest items).

Oh, as for failures.. I haven't often been asked for very high level items from people I don't know well. I'd just warn them about the chance of failure and put mat cost on them. For friends, I'd only ask for them to resupply anything I can't cheaply/easily get myself.

I don't charge fc ppls but they must supply all materials. Non FC ppl its, give me what you feel is fair since it takes all of a couple mins of my time at most usually. If they make me stand around and wait and take advantage I raise costs significantly just cause they are being a jerk whether they know it or not.

If they are new players and are working up the storyline I will make them stuff for free here and there to help them out, esp low level (under 30ish) gear/weapons since the expense is nothing to me but incredible to them at that stage of the game.

Fails are on me, pure and simple. The only way I wont replace items is if I tell them that I don't think I can make it and the chance of failure is high and they insist I try anyway.

I don't charge but I do ask that they provide mats unless it's very low level and I have things on hand. I won't refuse a tip but it's not required. And I'm straight-forward on high level stuff where "I don't think I can HQ this. Is NQ fine?" If they want me to try anyway I will, but we understand that I'm not responsible for a failure at that point. I don't get many of those, though.

I charge them a hug sometimes. :)
They are usually generous enough to give me a few.

I don't understand why anyone would cover a "failure" with their own money. RNG is RNG, you can't control it and you can't totally nullify it from end game recipes. Anyway, I'm extremely strict with this kind of stuff, to the point that I only craft for myself and a few trusted persons.

In my own experience, from my raiding days in others games, there is always players that going to abuse the effort of others if you don't keep their leash short and I can't stand that behavior.

I craft for mats provided (unless it's easy stuff/stuff I have a lot of onhand), if they want to give me a tip (and they always seem to) then I will graciously accept it.

edit: This goes for strangers as well. Though for them I generally have them provide all mats.

Generally speaking, I do it for mat cost. If it is just one item, I don't worry about things like clusters. For newer members leveling their first jobs, I'll usually craft weapons for them at no cost to them.

For one returning member, I made the i250 weapon for their class for free. Why not?

What usually happens after an expansion though, is I get swamped. So usually there is the standing rule that mail the mats and I'll get to it. If my mailbox is full, that's the hint that I can't do it just yet.

Makes it less awkward that way, as opposed to my having to flat out say "no, I'm up to my ears in crafts atm."

I have a method which has served me well. For the first or second craft, I don't charge and I even provide the mats. I refuse tips and let them know to just pass on the good will. Then I just make a mental note if they are helpful, courteous, contribute in any way to the FC, be it joining runs, helping gather, donating items/gil, anything to show they are actively participating with the FC, I will continue to gladly craft for free with my own mats. If the person is non-interactive and just doing their own thing all the time, I will ask for mats then eventually I'll just say no. There are some very polite members who insist on compensating me somehow so I usually give them a huge discount and still provide my own mats.

I don't charge my FC anything. The only thing I ask for is to help train the chocobos and with garden tending if myself or the guild leader are not online. They are also pretty good at putting valuable, marketable mats in the company chest that they come across during their adventures. When it comes to crafting, I find time more valuable than gil, and if they save me that, it really goes a long way and I don't mind showing my appreciation with crafts and melds.

Generally speaking, I follow a very straightforward set of rules when it comes to this.

I will craft for FC mates for free if they bring me the materials. If they do, they get whatever the result of the following craft attempt is. If it fails, they get nothing. If it ends up NQ, they get NQ. If it ends up HQ, they get HQ. If it fails and materials are returned to me, I'll either return their materials or try the craft again if they want. I will always do my best to try to get them an HQ result, but RNG still plays a huge factor in high-end crafts and I can only go so far to augment it.

I always make this policy very clear for those I'm crafting something. It wouldn't be right to let my commissioners, FC mates or no, believe that they're absolutely definitely getting that HQ they really want when RNG could completely wreck the process beyond belief. It's important to me that they understand that RNG-failures can happen and that I will not be covering them for that risk.

Then there's the following caveats:

I'll always give them the rough odds of them getting an HQ piece if I can.

If I have a surplus of a material and/or I'm just feeling generous, I'll often spot them some of the mats for the craft they want.

I typically don't require crystals needed for the craft as part of the materials given to me.

I will accept tips, but by no means do I charge FC mates a commission. In fact, I will usually craft for free in general to those that ask politely.

I will use vendor crafting food. If they want me to use something better, they can procure it or its mats for me.

I will typically not completely reimburse a failed craft even if it failed entirely due to my own error. Whether or not I attempt to reimburse at all is up to me. Mistakes DO happen. Though, in my defense, I've never had this happen on someone else's crafts.

So I've heard a split between:

Completely free with crafter providing all mats
Or
Mats supplied by the requestor
--failure or nq failure to be paid by crafter
--failure or nq failure to be paid by requestor

I make my fc non top level gear completely free however if they need something difficult to make they have to wait for me to get around to it. I also ask they buy whatever seals or tome matts I need. if they need something particular annoying such as a primal glamor weapon they have to either farm it themselves or buy it. I may have previously maxed everything but I don't know how to work the mb so I'm not rich
