Story mode dungeon difficulty

So, I'm doing the free trial and trying out each new dungeon as they come up, things had been going ok, until Titan. I had no idea what was going on, got roflstomped, died repeatedly etc. Can anyone comment on the difficulty of the higher level story mode dungeons ?

They are easy Titan included, just take few tries to memorize what abilities do or ask/check tactics beforehand.

That's the problem. You had no idea what was going on. Once you know the different mechanics, it will be easy to clear.

All story content is pretty face roll, you're just new and learning. Once you get used to it you'll be wishing for harder story content.

If you do content just jumping into it for the first time of course you may need to learn certain mechanics but they are all fairly easy.
Even the level 60 dungeons are rather easy pz

Yep. MTQCapture has decent video guides for most of the dungeons/difficulties, and they're easy enough to follow for beginners.

While I have no concrete evidence to support this I'm pretty sure the developers scale the difficulty as you progress through the story. Perhaps not for your everyday mobs but dungeon bosses. The thing with Primal fights is that they are meant to be surprising, challenging and new, so there's almost no lead up to their mechanics. Meaning, you either have to learn from dying or have someone guide you/watch a video. As you progress further, you will find that fewer and fewer players have patience to learn by dying so, rather than the difficulty of the dungeon, you begin to worry about the peer pressure.

Since it is easy to over gear new players should have less difficulty with main story instanced content, but mechanics will still stomp you if you ignore them, especially instant-death like getting pushed off the platform in Titan. Oh doing flipping off the platform as a dragoon. You have to see that at least once.

Anyway, dungeons are a team effort. So your tank should be holding hate in a way that reduces damage to the rest of the party, the healer should managing their MP, and others should be trying to avoid damage. (in a simple description) While it does get more difficult it is by no means impossible; ignore the haters and just keep practicing until you get it.

Titan was difficult back when I started in 2013 and it is still difficult today. One shot mechanics that can hit you even when you've clearly moved out of the telegraph abound.

I remember when i first got to the titan storymode fight. Random group made via duty finder failed over and over and over again. Every try half the people got knocked over the edge and died. And even when some of us managed to stay on top, we werent doing enough damage to stop the bosses ultimate move and kept dying to it. This went on for like 75 minutes until the group gave up. I was convinced that i would never make it past, and logged off to go to bed. The next night i tried again, as i still needed it for the story. Random group made via duty finder cleared it easily the first try. Halfway through the fight i lagged into a landslide and went over the edge, they still easily beat it without me contributing for half the fight. Moral of the story, the difficulty varies a lot based on the type of people youre teaming up with.

In general, the difficulty of trials and dungeons goes up a little as you go. But its not a ton. If we used a 10 point scale(1 simple - 10 almost impossible) then the low level stuff would be mostly in the 1-2 range, and the hardest story stuff would be 3-4. The hardest content in game is seperated into optional content like the savage raids and the extreme primals. But with the right group the hardest fight is reduced to a 1, and the wrong group can make the easiest stuff an 8 or 9.

Things will get harder as you go on. However, you'll also be given more tools to deal with the presented challenges. Most players don't want to encounter the same, bland tank-and-spank boss over and over again. However, with more mechanics comes more problems you have to deal with. This can be difficult for a BLM because we like to post up in a corner and never move. It's also super easy to go tunnel vision and completely black out the fact that an AoE just appeared under your feet. Titan NM is extremely punishing if you don't respect his telegraphed AoE's. Titan was probably one of the first times as a DPS that I really had to be cognizant of my surroundings.

That said, and as has been said, it really depends on the group you're rolling with. Also, doing some prep research goes a very long way. However, I understand if you're adverse to that kind of stuff because you'd rather experience it first-hand. Your right as a paying player.

I remember my first time doing Titan. I fell off, of course, as is normal for new players. I sulked for awhile then when back to do it again. As BLM, it truly made me realize that I can't always just sit somewhere and light things on fire. Going at it the second time, I worried less about DPS, and more about learning how to get out of the way. It was a frustrating, but highly rewarding learning experience.

I know how you feel I use to fall every time I fought Titan and I hated it! But like many things it takes practice! I know you can do well in many fights. You can either keep doing the trial for practice or watch YouTube videos for tips. I hope this helps don't give up and enjoy the game!
