Deep inside Palace of the Dead is a group of adventurers who needs your help. They are recruiting Gatherers of all kinds to gather materials to help improve their automated contraptions.

Class: DoL

How to: Gatherers will join Palace of the Dead. You will gather from Nodes all over the area. As you gather materials a meter will build. Once it is full you can proceed to the next floor.

Danger: After a certain amount of time enemies will spawn patrolling the area. Lucky for you the group of adventurers have an automated defender helping you. You can upgrade this defender as you go.

Defender: The Defender is an automated contraption made to defend the gatherers from patrolling monsters. Each person has their own Defender. This can be upgraded as you go from Silver Chests. The Defenders stats stay with you after you leave POTD the same as your tools stats.

Silver Chests: Increases your Gathering Tools level. Depending on the level it reduces the % of failure as well as increases the % gathered. It also has a chance to increase your Defenders stats.

Items:
Pomander of Affluence - Increases the number of treasure coffers on the next floor.
Pomander of Flight - Increases the time until enemies show up on the next floor.
Pomander of Fortune - Enemies defeated increase the % needed to proceed to the next floor.
Pomander of Greed - When you gather from a node it gathers from all nodes in the room.
Pomander of Speed - Increases movement speed.
Pomander of Touch(rage) - One hit gathers all material from a node.
Pomander of Safety - Turns you invisible (can be used while aggroed).
Pomander of Sight - Reveals the current floor's map and location of all nodes.
Pomander of Steel - Increases defense of the defender.
Pomander of Strength - Increases the damage dealt of the defender.
Pomander of Witching - Transforms all targets within range into a frog, imp, or chicken.

Boss Floor: You will start off in a room where you need to hit nodes until someone finds a key. You will need to make your way room to room in a maze. Only problem is you need to be able to beat the timer.

Rewards: EXP, items to trade in for gatherer items, minions, and mounts.

Sounds like a nice way to level gatherers. I like this idea.

And crafters could have one to build those automated contraptions. I approve.

The only problem I see here is that this would be too much of an incentive for bots, as other games have done this, even had entire instanced mining dungeons.

Like a DoL/DoH version simply needs mechanics to it that incentivize doing things. Remember that DoL already has a stealth ability. eg, a DoL version could require mining the correct aetherial fuel/energy for mammet automatons, and harvesting aetherial mushrooms or something for Botany. Fishing is a little too complex due to the bait mechanic, though I suppose you could collect "aetherial ghost bait" and do something ala ghostbusters and capture ghosts to make the mammet automations go faster. If everyone stands around and does nothing, eventually the automaton stops in it's tracks and shuts down, which then requires gathering twice as much materials to start it up again.

A DoH version takes the other side of this angle and requires repairing the automatons. So you could have a party of either DoL, DoH or both. So each DoH could repair one kind of thing respective to it's class. The automaton's armor, weapons, energy systems, etc.

Basically a PotD for DoL and DoH is like the game lemmings. You need to get at least one automaton to the 10th floor, and you start with 8. A DoH person can also disarm traps, use fix/use cannons, fix/pull levers, and so forth. A DoL person can pull fixed levers, use undamaged cannons, push weights to pressure panels to open doors, and so forth. If you get a party of only DoH, then shortcuts by fixing levers to open secret passages would be the ideal. If you get a party of only DoL then you're leveraging trying to make the automation faster by using gathered materials on it. DoH can't harvest materials, they select "fix" from the activation menu and they are given materials to fix it. If the materials are destroyed, then they get a debuff preventing fixing it for 30 seconds.

The option to "steer" automatons can be done by both DoL and DoH, select the automaton and hit "follow target (self, or party member)" to get them to follow you through a secret passage. Automatons will automatically fight anything that hits it first unless "attack target" is selected.

If a trap is activated and the automaton is destroyed, then as long as there are others, the next floor can still be reached. If all automatons are destroyed the duty fails.

I believe we're gonna need new DOL,Undertaker.

I think it would bew possible to make DoL dungeons. No enemies, just special challenges for each crafters. Like FIsher to fish out the key from an underground lake to unlock a cell door. A botanist to break down a wooden door...these sort of things.

Decent for raw experience, but unless you can make money, few people will do it.

Instead of a DoL version of Palace of the Death, why not something new like "Garden of the Forest" or "Secrets of the Sea"?

The devs should just bring back Hamlet Defense

I love this idea. EQII had tradeskilling missions and they were a lot of fun. I think FF implementing something similar would breathe new life into these areas.

Hmm.. how about something where if 4 people go as gatherers.. one person could bring their Adventure Squadron as 'protection' ?
