So I'm 52 pushing for 60 for Stormblood but a friend told me the prequests require a 230 item level. Is there a short way to get it compared to just grinding days of dungeons?

Some things you can do while leveling is:
Do the Heavensward hunts. Not only will you earn Exp, thus helping you level, but the Centurio Seals can be used to buy a full set of i200 gear and upgrade it to i210. Not quite the same as i230 gear, but a good starting point.
Run Palace of the Dead. This can give you an i235 weapon fairly easily, and if you keep running it you can upgrade that weapon to i255.
If you have some Silver Chochobo Feathers (gained as part of Recruit a Friend campaign - if you don't already have them it is too late to get them) you can exchange 5 of them for chest and leg pieces of i230 armour.
The rest will have to wait until you reach level 60.
Do daily roulettes and take advantage of first-time bonus of level 60 dungeons (and spam dungeons later on) to earn tomestones.
Participate in Rank A and Rank S hunts at levelcap for tomestones.
Do Palace of the Dead at level cap for tomestones (and getting a better weapon if you aren't already i255)
Crafting but I doubt you can afford it next option is PvP (ILvL 235).
get to 60 and do PvP...you get wolf marks from it which you can exchange for il 235 gear including a weapon.
The easiest way is probably to wait until Stormblood. They'll most likely update the level 60 quests with gear just like they did with Heavensward. The ilvl 90 and 110 gear were added in 3.0. So most likely they're gonna patch in the 240 lore gear into the 3.4 or 3.5 quests for 4.0.
Right now? Pvp for about a day. Get a full makai/garo set and by the time you do get enough marks, you'll have enough scriptures for a 260 ring. That will get your item level high enough to do all of the hw main story.
PvP to get Garo gear.
Once you have a whole set you get a title. You need to be lv 60 for it, because you have to equip the set to get the title.
If you win, with the title activated, 10 more Frontline runs, you get a mount
Something I want to mention that I haven't seen yet.... Gear won't be your only (and maybe not even the main) concern. Not sure where you are in the MSQ but be aware you must complete all of ARR and HW MSQ before being able to access SB content on the 16th/20th.
At level 60 (queuing in the DF, no premades or friends):
1) leveling roulette + level 50 roulette + trial roulette = 280 Lore, 15 Scripture
2) PotD floors 1-30 (easy, fast) = 120 Lore, 60 Scripture
After you run the three daily roulettes, how many Lore and Scripture you get that day is based on how many times you are willing to repeat PotD 1-30. If you do the above just once per day like me, then it's 14 days I think, minus weapon of course. But if you push through PotD 50, you get a 235 weapon for free.
If it's anything like Heavensward, they will release "white" level 60 craftable gear, that can also be purchased off vendors that will be good enough to start the quests.
When Stormblood is released, the 3.0+ MSQ will probably be be updated to give out gear as rewards, so by time you get to Baelsar's Wall, you will be i230 just from the quest rewards.
That's good I've gotten to 91 in PotD and have a 79 weapon and 90 armor. How do you turn it in for a weapon.
Also thanks for the advice everyone! My friend is all geared out just waiting and I was hoping I could join him close to Stormblood launch and not have to spend a week or 2 badge grinding.
The raid Weeping City of Mach has i230 gears that you can get as well has drops, no accessories or weapons though. Lore tomes are i230 and pretty easy to get and you can get Lore accessories and Lore weapons too. You need to do all dungeons and trials to unlock the Duty Finder so you can do daily the Duty Finder in order to get Lore tomes.
pvp235 gear, that is the fastest way
