I sunk over 15k+ MGP into my race chocobo.
Chocobo is Rank 41.
I decide to do Covering.
Wiki says you retire yours to breed.
I buy licence. Opposite gender.
I retire chocobo.
I NOW NO LONGER HAVE A RACING CHOCOBO AT ALL.
I have a covering license, but never was given the option to breed my chocobo by the chocobokeep, before or after retiring.
I can't race. I lost my chocobo, which I put so much MGP into, I can't get a new one.
Thanks for screwing me with completely confusing breeding options, SquEnix!
Is there ANY way to get my race chocobo back, or am I 100% screwed? :mad: I can't even get a new one to start over.

After you retired your chocobo did you get an item called "Retired Chocobo Registration"? If you did not get it, I'd contact GMs/file a ticket for it, to see where and why it got lost.
If you, however have that Registration, you might be looking at the wrong place to do the breeding - which is Central Shroud, not the chocobokeeper at the Gold Saucer. -

go to bentbranch, and take your coverings with you, and breed a new chocobo, then after 6hours (earth time) go collect your new bo and go register it in gold saucer
(chocobo keep does not do the breeding) -

What might have happened is that you retired the chocobo at Rating 40 instead of Rank 40. Your rank is your regular leveling. Your rating determines which races you can compete in and is often much higher than your rank. If you talk to the feathertrader at Benchbranch Meadows you can get another chocobo registration. It sucks, but you'll have to just start over.
If you did it correctly and did get the retired chocobo registration then take it to the Race chocobo breeder at Benchbrach meadows. -

It is unfortunate that you made this mistake and lost your chocobo, but honestly: If it was your first racing chocobo you didnt lost to much. 15k MGP arent a huge loss either, specially not now that we've got MGP-buffs up. It's not a big loss as long as you have breeding attempts left on your previous bird. Just have to restart that pedigree tier. Which long haul is still the same MGP farm anyway -

Basically you want to try at least have a 4 star in each stat by one of the parents, cross it with yours

Then you basically put the 4 star values together and get:
Speed: 50% 3 star, 25% 4 star, 25% 2 star
accel: 50% 4 star, 25 % 3 star, 25% 1 star
end: 50% 3 star, 25% 4 star, 25% 2 star
Stam: 50% 3 star, 25% 4 star, 25% 2 star
cun: 50% 4 star, 50% 1 star,

You where not screwed over you need breed and race again and again and keep breeding. Only bad part of this perfect chobobo (pure 4 star) is the inherited ability, wish there was a way to remove that or do less rng breeding so the perfect is not lost to race with
Just keep retiering them at rank 40 and keep breeding them to increase how strong they are. at p7/8 you should start strongly considering what covering tickets you get and toss out garbage if you don't have a chance to get 4 star in each line.

Sometimes you will want to retire your chocobo early. Here's why (and I'm speaking from the experience of having a Rank 9 damn near perfect bird) --
When you breed upper level chocobos in your quest to get a better pedigree, there are many points that are somewhat RNG involved. Your new bird inherits a trait from either the mother or father, plus some of their stars in the major categories (speed, endurance, etc). The only way to know how many stars YOUR NEW chocobo got is to register it with the Chocobo racing registrar at the Gold Saucer.
And then let's say you got four stars in everything but stamina and cunning, and those are just one star. Not very good, and you don't want to spend the time and MGP to level up a bird's rank that's not going to perform in the race for you. So you retire it then without wasting time, and it becomes chocobo nuggets for the Gold Saucer cafe :)
But you still have 9 more opportunities to breed your retired rank 40+ chocobo, so 9 more chances to see if you get better star ratings. You can see "sort of" what the outcome will be when you purchase the covering permit for the opposite chocobo sex from the Tack and Feed seller. You can see the star ratings of the Sire/Dame, and just discard the ones that aren't very good. Yes this costs MGP. But you should be able to get it back as you increase in rank and reach higher tier races.

15k MGP isn't really that much, especially with this event going on right now... You can literally earn 16k with a scratching ticket.
