I was wondering if this was true? It said in the article you had to buy one potion to level to 60 and one potion to skip the story. Totaling $50 or something like that. Just wondering if this was true?

I might be wrong but it's 1 level boost and 1 msq skip. So yep 50 $ if you want to play SB if you're a newcomer.
One is for leveling and one is story skipping. (Which I might add... I believe also doubles as a Leveling booster too)
Either way. One to level cause low level leveling is a pain for some. The other for those that have done it million times now want to skip it story skipper. (Note: I believe regardless you can only get one of each, so no going wild leveling all the classes/jobs. Also. Doesn't work for the DoH/DoL peeps.)
Edit: Oh and no you really only need one. You could get both I suppose if you want to level the thing the story skipper doesn't level.
Oh right there were two Story skippers! You need really on the HW one to skip it all to catch up to the SB peeps.
Now my reasoning (as I no longer know where that thread went!) is... most story quests are level locked. So it has to level you. It won't level a job. You'll have to do those quests on your own. (Or at least pay for the Job potions ie Level booster)
The job boost levels one job of your choosing to 60 and completes all job quests and gives all class/job abilities.
The story boost completes all main scenario quests and important sidequests, gives you a chocobo and Grand Company and also marks all dungeons as unlocked but not completed. The price depends on if you want to finish just ARR or both ARR and HW content. You'll need to level your job but you don't have to do any quests to unlock content. This will also make story solo fights permanently inaccessible on that character.
If you buy the story only you need to level.
If you buy the level you are MSQ blocked.
If you can only buy one buy the MSQ one, the 50 MSQ quests are hell (they drag on and on and eat time) and I ended up as level 60 before getting them done. SO because of the MSQ block, I was prevented getting my level 52-60 abilities etc.. Way easier to speed level then dealing with those long as af 50 SMQ quests UGH! worst part in leveling a crafting alt.
The short answer is yes.
The more elaborate answer would be that there's two seperate items (and variations thereof) you can purchase to skip different things.
A) the "Story skip item" - Tales of Adventure: Expansion - available in two flavours.
Tales of Adventure: A Realm Reborn (completes all ARR MSQ including the patch 2.55 series) for $18/£13.32/15.75€ that drops you off MSQ-wise ready to start HW.
Tales of Adventure: Heavensward (completes all the current MSQ including the patch 3.56 series) for $25/£18.50/21.75€ that lets you jump right into SB.
From what we've been told these might not include the XP you would gain from doing the MSQ, so you may still have to level a job to the required level for starting next MSQ.
What they definitely do is complete the MSQ and select side-quests (like enrolling in a GC and getting a chocobo).
B) the "level boost item" - Tales of Adventure: Job - available for all DoW/DoM Jobs excluding SAM and RDM.
These will cost $25/£18.50/21.75€ and are initially limited to one (1) purchase per account until patch 4.1
Purchasing the item will give you your chosen job at level 60, a set of level appropriate gear and completion of all corresponding job quests (giving you access to all actions of the job).
You can not boost a DoH/DoL.
This item on it's own will still require you to complete the MSQ.
Purchasing Tales of Adventure: Scholar or Tales of Adventure: Summoner should give you ACN at 60, giving you potential access to two jobs at 60 after doing the class quests for the branch you didn't choose and acquiring some gear for level 60.
So, assuming the story skip just leaves you at your current level.
If you want to skip ahead to 60 and skip all the pre-SB MSQ you will have to purchase both the HW story skip and a level boost, totaling $50.
If you just want to hit the requirements for picking up either SAM or RDM and then take it through the HW MSQ you'd supposedly only need Tales of Adventure: ARR - to satisfy the Castrum Meridianum requirement - and a level boost of your choice to satisfy the one job at level 50 requirement. This would cost you $43.
Yup that's right, you'd need to do dungeons and PotD, not forgetting job quests. Or if you buy only a job potion you'll have a level 60 job with no content available until you unlock them with quests.
Buying both gets you straight to the beginning of Stormblood but it's a bit pricey.
Ok i see. I suppose it's fair that it's $50... After all WoW charges $60 of their boost. I'm not sure I'm gonna be able to buy both but if anything I'll just get the level skip and burn through the story as quickly as possible.
Honestly, it's a lot faster and less of a hassle to level a job than it is to get through the MSQs if you have no interest in the story. The patch 2.55 MSQ arc bridging the gap from ARR to HW in particular drags. on. forever.
If you have to choose and want to get into SB as quickly as possible skip the story and just level manually through the many options available.
yes keep in mind I said this too:
Ama is my alt, I was raging for about 2 or 3 weeks over the MSQ 50 block. Ama got 60 before the level 50 MSQs were finished, still a sprout status from it and unable to get the 52-60 job quests because of the MSQ block. the 50 msq has a lot of running around and eat a lot of time. I rather level a job to 60 then deal with that BS. You want SB acess quick as possable? by the MSQ one or at least buy the 50 MSQ skip + 50 leveling one.
when I say 50 msq, i mean quests that are level 50 that block HW, there is like 100+ quests on them, they suck.
If you're going to burn through the story anyway, don't buy a skip potion. You can a massive amount of EXP doing the quests and you'll be skipping all that dialogue anyway. Personally, if you only want one, I'd pick the ARR skin. It's by far the longest and more tedious grind. Looking at your profile though, if you've reached 37, it'd probably be better for you to just power on through.
Well the reason i want the level 60 boost is so i get good armor and a weapon to start doing quests in Stormblood region.
Only 1 item is for level boost
The other item is for MSQ boost, not for the level
The worst part of leveling is the quests between 2.0 and 2.55, since you are already level 37, I would advice you to keep playing. When you reach Heavensward, you will finish it alot faster then you would expect and the best part is, the story is pretty good. Do'nt worry about good armour and weapons, there will be vendors that are going to sell ilvl 250-260 gear, which is fine for Stormblood.
The producer also said that you can only use 1 leveling potion per character (account?), this means that if get bored of playing Paladin and want to level another class, you will need to start leveling them from start, which means for most classes this begins at level 1.
My personal advice is, to just take your time and enjoy, but if you have money and you want to spend it, go ahead.
You won't be able to do any quests in Stormblood before you've completed Heavensward main quests. In that case you'd be better off buying the ARR+HW story skip if not both potions.
Another option is to just use this remaining time to level your character and follow the story as far as you can. Depending on your daily play time you might not need the skip potions at all. Here's where you can check your progress: http://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/wiki/Gu...Locked_Content.
Worth noting that just doing the 2.x quests and associated dungeons once will land you around 52, which helps a bit with bridging some level gaps in the 50 to 60 MSQ (approaching or being at 60 before completing it can only be done intentionally as it requires running dungeons or potd quite a bit).
That's about what you're giving up experience wise if you use the ARR skip.
Also, if you do choose to use it but are at least somewhat interested in the story remember to read the summary in your completed quests section of your journal and watch the Unending Journey scenes when you get a chance, as two of the main story arcs tie directly into Heavensward and the other two main arcs tie directly into and help set up Stormblood (part of the reason it's so long compared to the 3.x stuff).
While I'm not sure how good or bad the equipment granted by the boost potions is, bear in mind that if Stormblood is like Heavensward, the Main Scenario Quests will SHOWER you with HQ weapons and armor. The benefits granted by the boost equipment will be overtaken almost immediately by totally free gear.
How much is your time worth? Leveling while doing MSQ is easy enough, it's simply time consuming. Figure out how long it would take to run ~400 quests + grind iLvl 230 + run like 20-25 dungeons and similar number of trials, and ask is $50 is worth it to skip that amount of time until you can play the SB content.
Convenience is always priced at a premium.
Hmm if you get the Story potion I would assume that it automatically levels your current class to 60? And then all you really have to do is your job quests to 60. That'd be so weird if it didn't and just have all these quests unlocked but still have to do all the leveling work anyways?
And the job leveling potion would just go to alt jobs people plan on leveling?
Hmm idk I was planning n doing the story jump potion for one of my alts but If it doesn't also level their class then it seems pointless?
