Raen Or Xaela

Which do you prefer, and why? As an Au ra, I am curious.

Xaela, I like the nomadic/Mongolian lifestyle influence of them. I just wish the lifestyle change from the Raen, changed more details on the Xaela then just their horn and scale colour :(.

Raen because according to the lore they are the peaceful Au ra's..unless I got it mixed.

Raen for normal sclera. I seriously hate the gray sclera Xaela come with.

The aggressive sect.

Such a shame they have the male legs posed together like a looney tunes cartoon. Would've played one ages ago if it wasn't for that.

I found the Xaela more interesting from a lore standpoint, and their horn/scale color meshed better with the hair/skin color I had in mind.

I'm glad that both clans are getting a good amount of lore in Stormblood, though. I was worried that only the Xaela would be getting much attention, but the Ruby Sea footage from the press release indicates the Raen will have a significant presence in that zone.

Raen because : I like white scales , works so good with my glamour style and looks so royal or angelic :)

Xaela cause they look more like the Au'ra I would have wanted :'( (the demon like)

My Au Ra alt is a Xaela, mostly because the white scales look like a bad rash or other skin condition.

Raen. Pretty much just cuz on my Au Ra the scales looked nicer with my darker skin tone. I prefer the white scales mostly too, though some people do look good with the black.

Both can look quite nice with the right skin/clothing/hair combination. I got one of each myself.

I prefer Xaela visually, though culturally I'm looking forward to meeting both on their home turf soon.

Lore wise, I find the Xaela more interesting. If the female Xaela horns and scales were black or purplish black instead of blue, maybe I would play one. But I really don't like the blue color of the scales, the female Raen scales have a prettier color.
It's the opposite for males though. On males I really like the Xaela scale color but not the Raen scales.

The grey skin tone works better with bright scales. Less demonic, but more ghostly ^^. Xaelas dark scales are too dominant in my opinion. And i like the calm and solitude (non-nomadic) lifestyle of the Raen.

With Stormblood, i would like to see, if there are any cultural differences between Raen and Xaela ; )

Visually Xaela because they are way sexier and their scales works perfectly with every skin colour!!
On a lore note though I like the Raen, they are the "good" auri, they stopped being nomads and they are matriarchal if I don't remember it wrong.

I wouldn't go to the degree of removing Raen at all, when I tried making my character Au ra I made him Raen cause I think it's closer to my real life palette and all.

No in all seriousness Raen interest me more for no other reason than

they live in bubble towns under the water

. Plus I think Au Ra samurai and ninja are a bit cooler than Au Ra nomads. We actually have lot less info on the Raen than the Xeala so there is more to learn about them.

I like both the Same TBH. It really depends on how skilled the Player is in creating a good looking character. I saw a lot Good looking Xaela but also a lot Good looking Raen. I dont care much for the scale Color :)

Raen on females and Xaela on males, because of the sclera. If females had the darker sclera as the males, then I would be for Xaela for both genders.

I'm a Xaela fan myself. Thanks to the dark horns, I can create a very demonic look. But at the same time, she'll look elegant. She's become my female race & clan of choice as a result because of how much of a twin personality she looks like she has. I must say though, the lore of Xaela matches me quite a lot, in terms of that they are always going somewhere else. While I'm not very barbaric IRL, I have a huge wanderlust. I'm constantly leaving my home city (though don't move away from said city, I'm not in a position where I can), and thus I feel I fit in with the Xaela better. I found I couldn't really identify with the Raen on a lore level.

Xaela because of black sclera and pretty black scales. I also like the lore of the many Xaela tribes a lot more than the Raen because some of them are wild.

raen, i like the coloring and scale coloring.

I do prefer Xaela lore however, but it bothers me immensely the scaling is blue-black. it doesn't work with the skin colors I tend to pick.

Xaela, gotta be a "lizard" person. Otherwise the tail just does not make sense.

I like both, I started my first character as Xaela on a different server, but switched servers and didn't want to spend the money to transfer (only played a couple hours, after all), then didn't realize I could use the same name on different servers, so switched to Raen and name to match. My original idea, I kept as an alt though.

I enjoy both of their looks.

I picked Xaela mostly because I feel that the dark scales look better on the dark skintone I like to use. White scales on dark skin is just too clashy.

Honestly don't get people saying the dark scales are "blue-black" they look true black to me; perfectly matches jet-black-dyed gear and the black swimsuit.

I prefer Xaela, only they can have the palest skins, and honestly I love pale characters.

depends on your coloring on your monitor/tv and what your eyes perceive. I have played on both, and the blue really stands out on the monitor. You could see it on the tv as well, but to less of a degree...(used TV for a monitor when I switched from PS4 to PC FFXIV then used a nice monitor) even on my husbands older tv you could see it. but now hes on the monitor too and you really see it. Just from my work computer here, I can see the blue in the scaling in your profile picture. If you compare it simply to a male aura you can also see theres a difference. their scales are true black or pretty darn close to it

Raen, all the way for me, though I seem to use darker Xaela-like skintones on my Raen so it seems like I'm actually falling somewhere in the middle. I do like the white scales more then the black ones for some reason.

Xaela is only Au Ra. <3 For me, The lore of Xaela is way better. I also love the darker scales on the pale pale skin color I chose, and since I like to use white/black glamour and hair color mostly it mixes very well. Plus the darker scales fit the image of Au Ra I had imagined at first.

I've gone both because I am addicted to fantasias and I need serious help, but I think in the end I prefer Xaela. All au ra are elegant and wonderful, but there is something about the Xaela that I just love.

I also tend to think that Raen scales look a little odd when the skin color is super similar to the scale color. That said, I do think tan or darker Raen look amazing.

It's weird - I'm probably the craziest cat person IRL, but I just can't not play as an elegant little lizard in XIV. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Xaela. I like the variety of little lore tidbits the different tribes have. The Raen scales look like weird skin growths to me except on a few skin colors. I just wish the female Xaela got actually BLACK scales like the males do.

Xaela have better lore but I think Raen are cuter. Love both tho, I have two of each.

Raen for me cause I like their skin tones and scale color better.

Raen because I had an easier time figuring out a lore friendly name with the Raen. I've been getting better at coming up with Mongolian names lately though.

I love them both actually! I really wanted SE to put a race with horns and scales OR horns and hooves into the game. So when I laid my eyes on the Au Ra I was like, "AWWWWWWW YISS~" I was a Raen throughout all of Heavensward but I found a Fantasia burning a hole in my retainer's pocket and decided to switch.

I like both, though I prefer the Xaela since they have more variety to them given that each of their tribes has a distinct quirk. The Raen, meanwhile, are much more civilised but a lot of their cultural practices are simply shared with the other civilised inhabitants of Othard.
