Absolutely gorgeous landscapes!
Apart from the stunning beauty of all the areas I'm so glad that they kept the music from the trailer for Kugane. I will have such a great time walking around and afk'ing there.
The music in Yanxia is really good and oh my god the music in The Azim Steppe .. I'm absolutely in love with that theme. Overall all of the new areas got great background music and I don't even wanna use my mount in any of them xD
Kugane has an onsen?
All I needed to know.
Although, found it interesting that when they showed off swimming, the Bard demonstrating such instantly went from Job Gear to a Swimsuit when they jumped in the water.
Was this simply an edit done for the video? Or indicative that a "Swimming Appearance" will be a separate equip from standard Gear/Glamour?
Sorry, im not trying to be negative as i love the game and im mega hyped... however am i the only abit disappointed by the saemy-ness of the new zones.
Its all basically green/brown land with a few rocks thrown about.
In ARR we had forests, seascapes, deserts, desolate blasted lands and snow covered tundra. In HW we had floating rocks, plains, snow and mountains.
The palette for SB just seems very limited in comparison with no proper variation in landscapes other than a few structural set pieces like castles and towers etc...
I genuinely do hope theirs more than they've shown here as thus far, im just a little underwhelmed by the lack of variation.
I didn't realize we were going to China and Mongolia as well as Japan. Cool.
The music is so much better and of a higher quality than Heavensward. Really impressed.
I totally agree with you. It just looks like Thanalan, La Noscea & Dravania extended. Generic landscapes. I would've loved more fantastical landscapes like Mor Dhona, Churning Mists, Azys Lla, etc. Obviously it can't be all fantastical, but a few thrown in here and there would've been cool.
That's the trade off for having more larger open zones - graphic presentation has to be reduced slightly to compensate for the increased processing both the client and the server needs to do. This is why ARR zones were small, it was the trade off for more highly detailed areas. Heavensward areas already were like this so it's not a big problem for me. Also remember we're now getting two zones for the price of one with underwater areas - that will inevitably eat into system resources too. Really, it's a case of you can't have your cake and eat it too.
As for the new areas, Ala Mhigo itself beyond the Lochs seems ominous (complete with Z-grade horror film lightning effects :p), it's as if all light has gone from that place, and with it, all hope has been extinguished. Which makes me even more determined than ever to kick the Garleans out of there for good.
And is that an equestrian statue of Odin I spy in the centre of Kugane?
I don't know, I just didn't get this myself. The Gyr Abania placed looked mostly the same, but there were some smaller differences, such as The Fringes having more trees than a "desert"-y area would. The Peaks having very intricate/large structures. The Lochs being where we can see Ala Mhigo directly, as well as having Ala Mhigan architecture. Yanxia and Ruby Sea looked same-y for me, but Azim Steppe really stood out for me. We've never had a very large open-plains type area, there were always too many structures.
