[dev1206] The effects of Protect and Shell have been made mutually exclusive, and one now overwrites the other.
Is this for real?
are you effing kidding me?

That's something i don't understand. But surely there's a reason
Wow, now i only need to press 1 button instead of 2, this game sucks i am quitting!!
This is a horrible, horrible decision and change in my opinion. For any what reason would this make sense? I have not the slightest idea. Since when in any FF has Protect and Shell overwritten eachother.
Shell is part of protect now, so it's actually an improvement.
Where is the problem?o,Ô
Step 1: Make spells mutually exclusive
Step 2: Remove one of the spells
Step 3: Mass confusion
Step 4: ????
Step 5: Commence monthly fees.
The problem is it does not make sense, either a localization error on the specific dev1206 or Shell is missing.
Some ppl need to actually read the notes instead of skimming them. However seems protect will work more like barrier which to me is good. Honestly how often did mages cast only shell and no protect? So now that Enhanced protect works for magic (old Shell) why all the tears? You only lost the name not the effect. Also it makes Protect mean something. Protect me from physical and magic is good i dont care what you called it.
Yes thats what Im complaining about it makes no logical sense!
Might as well just name it Barrier...
For my part, I miss the Shell name. They should have just changed the name from Protect to Barrier to make it more in line with the cannon. Then later they can release Protect and Shell on a different mage class.
But I might be a bit nitpicky about this.
Also, It would be nice to have a spell that works like the AOE force-field in the LL opening CS....
I wonder if that whole idea has been scrapped..
Maybe Shell will be a White Mage job spell.
So when you do Enhanced Protect, does it overwrite, then overwrite, then overwrite, then overwrite, then overwrite, then overwrite, then overwrite, then overwrite, then overwrite .. *300 seconds later* then fade?
If they make it overwrite each other; that's fine, but don't make Wall/Barrier and call it Protect.
I could see some strategy if you had to time your protect or shell to avoid incoming damage. That would be very cool.
If they are merged as one spell; rename it to Wall/Barrier. Please. Thanks.
For all the FF logic complaints, I have to say:
Efficient & fun MMO > FF nostalgia.
There is nothing about overwriting in the patch notes in the other languages, so I guess it was just mistranslated.
Shell is now part of Protect, and I see no logical problem with it.
The protect spell can't be renamed to "Barrier" because until lvl 24, it's just that - Protect, raising the physical def like it always did since FF1.
When you hit rank 24, your "force of mind" (or whatever you think is the source of magic:rolleyes:) becomes strong enough to add even MORE defense to the targets, adding def against magic attacks too.
Btw, it's "only" Protect too if you equip it on any class but conjurer.
There is no problem with the logic behind this decision!
Shell is still in the game, guys. [item=3020502]Ironwill Unguent[/item]
It's weird it doesn't say it in French but we have that at the same place in the Note.
[dev1288] Le bouton permettant de changer l’aire d’effet des sorts a été supprimé.
En conséquence, la commande texte /areaofeffect a également été supprimée.
It says:
The button that allows you to change the area of effect of spells has been removed.
Thus, the text command /areaofeffect has been removed too.
We have that info and you have the Protect/Shell info. The Notes are really different from country to country. Weird.
Mistranslation or not, I hope they don't really do this.
@OP: putting a [devXXXX] in thread title =!= tagging a thread with devXXXX. *tag added*
This and other details, such as distance not being relevant for an accuracy bonus for archer or spell AoE shape for thaumaturge, are really confusing me. We can only hope this is in preparation for a better system and not a complete removal altogether. However, if it is like monster behaviour that was taken away several months ago and we still don't have it back today, it might take ages before we see the end of it.
Can we be enlightened about these changes?
I'm not concerned about this at all.
They have been streamlining this game for quite some time now. I've expressed my concern but the majority is against me.
Is it too much to ask for some FF tradition? Nobody gets hurts and it's just nice to see they have not forgetting their old games.
This is such a bad change I don't know where to begin..
I can't believe they actually made these class changes worse..
I have a friend that fell in love with thaumaturge for the cone effect. I, too, was enjoying the different AoE. Cone being more offensively oriented while circle AoE defensive for party. It was combat dynamic, now it's being oversimplified again... they could just have shown the area of effect on the screen instead.
