Flying in 2.0

Will be posible to fly in 2.0 or future expansions?

why?

- Airships controled
- Personal flying machines (like ingame Intro)
- Airship battles.



I know this is a quite far away option, but what u think if the new server was ready to use a system to move free in the air too?

I've never seen the reasoning for wanting to fly in an MMO, but I've also never played WoW (or anything besides FFXI). Does it serve some purpose?

If it is added, I hope there's some reason for it aside from the novelty of flying. Perhaps a floating dungeon or something.

I am neither for nor against it. I suppose you could use this post to like if you don't care, but want them to make it have a purpose, if they choose to add it.

i know there are too much WoW haters (i am not saying u are one ^^) who dont want to jump, swim, fly, etc. But this Final Fantasy is full of high-tech Imperials with flying machines, airships, flying beasts.. i dont say must be something to be implemented now or in a future, but must SquareEnix to prepare the new server to be able to add it in a future?

I don't like personal flight for many reasons, but there should definitely be Airship battles of some kind. I'd also like to very much see a true floating active city.

yeah but think about personal flying not as mount. Think about a posible expansion where u need to fly between floating isles, fighting dragons in the air, etc. Not all are mounts, Content is there too. I am asking if they have to allow servers to implement this in the future.

Raistlin Majere should have been a midlander hume lol. You could get away with it on xi, because Taru had the best mage stats...

I played WoW for a few years after my break from FFXI, and the feeling of
flying mounts gave "Exploration" a new ground.

It was kinda cool, you could sit on rooftops with your dragon mount showing off.
(ya there were alot of rare mobs in there & once you got one you obviously wanted to show it off.)

I also remember spending hours / days camping certain mobs that dropped a rare mount, or simmilar.

The diffrence here is that FFXIV's current NM's have a decent droprate,
but the repops are utterly ridicolous.

I wish they would go back to proper "Rare" spawned NM's with certain pop condition etc.
Now thats sort of off topic, but hopefully it will get implemented in 2.0

So flying mounts...im not sure, maybe mmo's need a new concept regarding mounts.
WoW already got Ground, flying & underwater mounts.... but what else is there to be invented?

I don't know about you guys, but for me and my friends one of the major milestones of FFs 1-9 (and to a lesser extent, 10, 11 & 12) was getting the airship. It would be neat if S-E somehow brought that sensation back. I'd like to zip around the world on my own airship. Maybe make it big enough so you can bring a party with you (+7) and there could be flying mobs to take on, like the dragon in FFVI that would sometimes attack you. I'm not sure if other MMOs have had airships as flying mounts, so it could be an original innovation on S-E's part if they decided to go through with it.

Spawning your own small Airship like the city to city ones would be pretty decent to bring your party to camp. Warping to gates would need to be removed to make it worthwhile though, and probably wouldnt work when they chop zones up and add more loading screens.

Company Airship battles in a battlefield type area could work.

Airship fights vs NPCs would probably be done in a psuedo-flying vein ala COP 6-4

I can see an airship type dungeon in the future, but it will just be a zone and not really give the sense of flight.

It wouldn't mind a discussion about this with you all. Say SE gives us the ability to either own our own personal airship, like in most of the other FF games, or gives us joint ownership via Free Companies... what then?

Should they allow you to land the airship anywhere or only in designated areas?

Should you have complete control of your airship, able to traverse the world or should you only be allowed to quickly travel to specific places? If the latter, why can't the current airships take you there as well?

Airship battles? Are they you fighting on the deck of the airship, or your airship fighting something else? If your airship could be damaged, could it be destroyed? And, more importantly, why? Why battle, what do you get, and what would it have to entail to keep people interested in playing?

The main feature of airships has always been to take your party to a section of the world that you couldn't have accessed before. Are they just flying taxis or something more?

I am all for floating cities, dungeons or just a floating continent to explore, but I think there needs to be a compelling for it.

don't think it fits in this game, i love it in dcu. but it's a world of all buildings ...huge huge buildings. and it just works. flying in ffxi it would just be fast amounts of clouds to fly threw as we just land in the spots we want to go to and miss the actual site seeing with chocobo.

for ships themselves ...i was thinking we were getting this actually. either all or from our linkshells for endgame type stuff. but company didn't turn out to be this. but being able to have our own ships though i dont' think they will go anywhere. but fly themselves to designated areas that you pick? then have battles agains other company/linkshells, or pve battles on way to things. i can even see a full blown endgame using ships and stuff. but not just for travel. it's all on how they implement it.

I honestly think I prefer mmorpgs when there is no "personal flying machine/mount". I mean it seems like a cool idea at first,
faster travel amazing scenery etc... But then in practice it makes the game world feel small, you don't see anyone on the ground ever and a lot of challenge when navigating the world is removed.
I remember the world in WoW feeling like the game world was so huge and there was this awesome sense of scale, but then with the really fast flying mounts and crazy amount of teleportation systems, you never really get to see the maps in detail.

bring back quests for airship travel to places though, i liked having to farm kazam airship pass for ffxi. would of been cool for a quest to port to every city and location. ...while at it not on flying but remove being able to teleport to locations on first time being there.

Game would have to be as open as skyrim. Sad thing is all of it going to be zone based just like FFXI.

Edit: Airships would work well if they were rare. Letting everyone be able to use one would kill the game.

What would be a good idea would be a "Clan" as in a linkshell would only be able to build LS points ingame to buy a airship to travel to locations for LS events. Also would be good idea to have 5 people at a time to be able to run a airship. One person flys it and other people Feed the fire or keep it from getting unbalaced and crashing.

We need Free Company Airships. Owned and operated by our player-run companies.

Flying mounts were pretty much the biggest mistake WoW ever made. It really shrinks/kills the world. Free Company airships would be cool, but what would you do with them?

Would be fun to have his own personnal airship as a house (or a boat) even if it doesn't fly on the map.

Anyway, with the zone and loading screen, i don't think flying would be nice to have.

It would be simple as a mog house, just add a small cut-scene when you enter the airship port that take you on sky and get you to your own ship.

And i see there, a good way of custom it. outdoor like indoor !

i'm sure i remember seeing a floating island near LL conected to the ground vy gient chains. in the V2.0 concept art. (or do i dream FF14 when i sleep?) personal airships, and airship battles sound great

The only thing I remember like this was only one Aetheryte Crystal. It wasn't a floating island.

But yeah, as someone mentioned earlier, having a personal/LS/FC Airship would be great even for "landing" in certain zones to let players off.

Not with 2.0, but later as an expansion would be nice:o
Obviously it shouldn't be just the flying feature but dungeons and islands in the sky, maybe even with parts you can and some parts you can't stand on and in dungeons, you'd have to stop flying sometimes and fall through the "ground"(clouds?) to get deeper into the dungeon or find secret pathways..stuff like that:D

I'm not a fan of useless flying feature though.

I strongly disagree with personal flying. If flying will be implemented should be via mounts or vehicles. If you wanna fly all the time go play DC Universe Online.

I want to control an airship since the current ones turned out to be a joke.

Loading screens is a step back in it's own, though. Where we are at currently, technologically they seem fairly inevitable in cases of warps (instant portals across the land, like in Rift) or fast travel (same concept, used in Skyrim to port to any uncovered location). I know WoW had loading between *entire continents* consisting of several if not a couple dozen zones, but even then, we're talking a game with a foundation in 2004.

It would look a bit bush league for top tier MMO by a top tier, experienced company to have mandatory loads between every single zone when merely walking/riding in this day and age of seamless, smooth transitions.

Flying mounts were pretty much the best thing WoW ever made. Nobody really forces you to use them, you can always just go around on ground mounts and enjoy world in full scale if you feel like it somehow got shrunk ;). Or fly around Icecrown/Stormpeaks... for me it can't get anymore epic :).

Also, I don't see flying as WoW or DCU thing, its an essential part of a FF game. I consider all FF's since FF9 as gimped, since they don't have this feature anymore. Making a brand new engine is a great chance to put this back in. Of course, it shouldn't be easy obtainable.

I mean, flying chocobos and airships... can it get any better :o.

I wish you would state your reasons at the very least. Personally personal flying is amazing to me mainly for the reason of adding the ultimate freedom in an MMO. Also makes the game feel more alive and realistic in a sense than having to be bound to the ground. I can understand people not feeling it for this game to some extent but I would be willing to compromise with those said individuals.

true its not much of a floating island but i was trying to remember from a picture i seen way back when the PDF first came out. as for ppl saying "we shouldn't fly we were never ment to fly this is not wow." have you seen the opening video of this game or even run the world and spotted the airship landing sites? i would say there was plans for something to do with airships even before yoshi took over. but anyway now yoshi has taken over and he has said he has plans for a battle near/close to/outside Ishgard, we know Ishgard don't like dragons and again opening video. nobody here can say for sure airships won't be involved. i'm not saying i think it will happen, but i am keeping an open mind. and certainly not ruling it out just coz ppl fly in WOW

Flying has the potential to be great if implemented carefully,though personally, I would rather not see it at all in this game. That being said it would be nice to no longer be faced with the 10minutes of standing around in a party as everyone fights over who is going to use their anima.
Although I hate to make another WoW reference but at Blizzcon this year they announced they will be placing new restrictions on "flying mounts" because they feel it has taken too much out of the "world" and at the moment our world is empty enough as it is (for now).
