Will this be a feature built in for version 2.0, and the new servers/net code? Using another program works now as a PC player, but what about ps3 users? From what I understand DC Universe can do it.
So does anyone know?

Um, no... There's SKYPE, VENTRILO, TEAM SPEAK and many more (that I don't know about). Get a clue, SE is not going to do it. I could probably walk you through how you can download one of these cool programs for free but you'd have to really want it (sigh).
I have a lap-top and a desk top. I play on my desk-top but I'd rather surf the web and use these voice-chats on my lap-top. It saves resources on my already kick-butt PC (which I plan to upgrade again).
Now it's time to show you how I really feel:

First thing PSExport, you're rude. Second, he asked about PS3 players. No one cares about your "kick butt" PC.
To OP, it's doubtful. Not something I would hold my breath on for 2.0. It's sad but we've set the bar so low, I don't want addons or extras, just a playable game that's fun and has content and lore.
Merry Christmas.
Just thought of something! If I say I play on ps3 after it releases I won't have to hear anyones annoying voice ever again in game!! O_O
No, it's just early in the morning here at this time. (That text) It sure be more centered than that compare to my screen.
It actual humorous on my side regardless what the next guy says. It's not that the topic bothers me but it's ideal for expanding on.
No, I don't even wish it for my PS3 version if they do it, there should be a toggle feature to turn 'off' the voice chat but again, that's entirely a whole lot off other worries we don't need for this MMO for us and for them.
It's not important and can be worked around in multiple ways. Many players can attest to this and make a long list.
I'd love for this feature to be added. I don't care if we still need other things to be fixed, that's what they have certain people on the team for.
This could really be need, especially for PS3 players. They have no party chat feature like the 360 does so they are pretty much stuck in silence. I mean look at PSU on the 360. Voice chat worked only when you were in a party in game. I don't see what's the big problem. Geeze people.
I wouldn't mind a built in voice chat, but this is not something I would personally use. I am simply not a fan of using voice chat altogether, even though I understand the practicality behind it during raids and intense activity (I mainly use it to listen to others during raids and intense strategy planning). However, many users are already using third-party software for that purpose and some already have their server on those, which I doubt they will abandon for a built-in system with greater limitations. That said, obviously, it would benefit the console users, however, it should be made the voice chat client can communicate to external servers as well (to connect with PC users using third-party clients). Also, by having a built-in voice client that connects to external servers, it could take off a load on SE's servers.
I hate voice chat in games...it just serves as a reminder of how old I am most of the time.
Marking a topic for death shows how immature your taking the OP's topic. this is a valid question that should be taken seriously, especially with a console launch coming up in the far distance... Voice chat will be necessary in a PS3 game, and I believe Square knows that.
So stop trolling the OP and take this topic seriously.
We talk about this before they said no due to harassment and the diff language issue. Anyways if they do add it to the game it be like wow where no one really use it. Also the issue with PS3 and PC voice chat they said they don't want to waste time making it work with sony. Not sure if they would rethink this but at the end seem like a waste of time if at the end people going to use TS3,mumble,vent.
Built in VoIP would be nice add-on feature since communication via typing is difficult when engaged in almost any activity, but they should always allow you to mute or blacklist a player over VoIP.
As for VoIP spam, verbal abuse, or sexual harassment, same thing can be applied to any form of communication, via text or voice. Allowing the players to blacklist helps alleviate the need to contact GMs most of the time.
The language barrier might pose as problem for players trying to communicate, but again same problem applies to text. The auto-translate was used to solve this via text, but you really don't see anyone holding full conversations with auto-translate. Most of the time, player would just stick to their native language rather than attempting to include everyone in the conversation by using auto-translate.
In short, people just want another means of communication in game. The problems they raised with are the same problems posed with any form of communication. Lastly, built-in VoIP would allow all players to communicate with each other using a common tool, whether if it is on PC or PS3.
Rather than jumping around hoops to find one common VoIP client to use; Teamspeak, Vent, Mumble, Raidcall, Skype, Google Voice, and so on. It's a similar issue when trying to conform everyone to use the same IM client; IRC, AIM, YIM, ICQ, MSN, any of the chats that uses jabber (XPMM), and so forth.
personally one of the few things i'm glad about is that they don't add in game vent. i still have hope that vent will not become the full norm when ps3 launches just like in ffxi where we all used typing and macro's only. yeah it saves a little time and can help in battles at times but usually not needed for pve ...specially if all is going the way it should be. plus the same time to hit the talk button usually the same amount of time to hit the macro button for a simple command if need to remind people what to do.
i'd rather waste the 30mins, hell even an hour for an event typing out stuff then having to spend the full 3-8hrs in vent for the event listening. i dont' talk in it(most don't, usually the same 3-10people only in there talking everyday) so listening is horrid to me. can you imagine with all the endgame that comes out later like in ffxi and having to be in vent for it all? that's like 4-12hrs everyday for a non casual player to be sitting and listening in vent. no thanks.
Because it never going to be better People would use Vent,TS and mumble because the ping is lower due to them being in there own Country. Ingame voice chat would never be that great for PC users but for PS3 i think they could do something like portal did with PC users and PS3 users. But at the end Endgame ls would use TS3,vent or mumble and ps3 users have to find a way to use it or do something else.
I just don't see a way to make both PC and PS3 use the same system. It be nice if PS3 can use 3rd program tools like vent.ts3 or mumble :(
there is the added complexity of making a proprietary VOIP work with both PC and PS3 users, seeing that many PC users already use existing VOIPs. (Mumble in my case) Sry to say this, but I don't see SE adding one.
PSxpert2011 - Glad to see there are still people trolling the forums.
I agree with the OP. The game should have a voice chat feature at LS options because when the PS3 time comes they will need to have a game where the console player can be in even situation (gameplay-wise) of a PC player without the need of having to use a PC in addition to the console.
Would be cool to have a build in voice chat of some sort...ventrillo is so useful but it can be pain when people decide not to use it or use other methods. Sure people will still decline using the built in but at least you wont have to have mumble account/ts account/vent account/skype account in order to please everyone's personal preferences. Besides why wouldn't you want to communicate with your friends and linkshell mates. Unless of course you aren't who you say you are which is a totally different thread. /stares at the Man'quotes...
voice chat will be a good future for the PS3 version. it wont be fair if its exclusive to pc users.
LOTRO had voice chat that worked great when I played, I don't see what the big deal is either way though.
as soon as SE figures out auto-translate into voice chat I'm sure they will get right on that
I would like to see this, but we don't have any word. If they don't do it, hopefully they, or one of us will white a UI tool that works with what is already out there. :)
As for PS3, I think it's a good call in some respects. Here's hoping :)
Well, auto-translate is somewhat complicated to have in voice chat...but if they add a voice decoder system (like those old obes that PCs have since like 20 years ago) they can just write at text log what is said, having both spoken and writen version of what you said...and with the writen version you do can use auto-translate on.
But still, i wouldn't expect auto-translate there...it would be such an unecessary processing IMO...just easier letting the dude type the text if an auto-translate is needed.
I am taking the thread seriously and having fun with it. Because I disagree doen't mean I can't add flavor to it. I think I posted very maturely. The question would be: Did you?
I do my best even though you won't see much of my post as "trolling". Label me as you will but one thing still lays true: I LOVE YOU GUYS! (much love) ^_^ v
Holy Christ, some of the reasoning to shoot this feature down is ridiculous. This game has, by far, the most backwards and non-progressive user base I've ever had the displeasure of being part of.
Ahh, I saw your serious response far down in the forums. no worries a bit of flavor is completely ok, I think the red from your original post set the bull off inside of me ^^
Merry Christmas everyone =)
Back To business:
I agree, if Square can develop a in-game system that works good then people will use it! The thing with WoW, is that it never really worked well... But that's to be expected to have mixed reviews on a useful feature.
What I think is the issue with a voice chat system, is that none of the content really needs it... Especially with the issues this game suffers from; such as server lag, animation locks during fights and such... To really utilize a voice chat system the game has to be extremely responsive to user input, which right now it isn't. Maybe 2.0?
When add on support comes. Hopefully someone will bring on an in game app for Ventrilo/Skype. I'd rather Square not bring in voice chat in this game, due to the game harboring multiple language speakers in one place. Auto-translate should suffice for that, otherwise just get a group mumble server or something, if you don't want to pay for Vent.
All things considered I'd rather them not waste the time due to most games even with the best intentions having a terrible array of voice options.
There are dedicated programs that do this far better and mostly for free.
This is the worst line of reasoning because you can turn it around and use it for practically anything that would be used differently from culture to culture. How about no addons, because people might not develop them to be multilingual? How about they take out regular chat and only give us canned, auto-translated messages, since some people don't type in all 4 languages? How about they take out the forums because I haven't translated this post into Japanese, German and French?
From what I've heard from my Co-worker who wont stop pestering me to play WoW (Never happening) the Voice interface with is terrible and they all use Vent/Skype/Teamspeak to communicate.
So please, show me a game with VOIP that beats the current free services available to anyone?
*edit*
I see your talking about more than just MMO's well then I present the entire god damn Call of Duty series. There is no option to flat out mute everyone without messing around when some idiot who can't stop breathing into his Mic or eating dorritos, or listening to Chocolate rain without just muting my entire TV.
