Crafting From Retainer Inventories

Not sure exactly where to post this so I thought I'd give it a shot in the general discussion section. Many other MMO's have a feature for their crafting system which allows for players to craft items using items that are stocked in their player banks (retainers) instead of having to have the base items to craft the given item(s) in their active player inventory. I just wondered if implementing something like this would be possible for FF XIV. Please be kind, I hardly ever make posts on the forum and I'm not sure where else to go to make QoL suggestions like this. Thank you.

I'd love that for glamour prisms and dyes too. You don't spend a lot of time at the bell for that, but it's still a nuisance.

Has been asked multiple times since the start of the game already. Now that they finally can't use the PS3 excuse anymore, we'll see if anything happens down that line.

YES! I want this so much. And it's great in those games that allow for it.

Been waiting on this forever. Crafting would be MUCH more enjoyable.

If they did it, they would need to put in restrictions. Possibly limited to housing/apartments and only if you have an item which you need to interact with in order to access retainer's items as eligible items to craft with. A potential downside being that while crafting in this manner you will not be able to sell any items on retainer.

You have to respect the way retainer information currently works. When you call a retainer, they can't sell items until you are done using them, so said restriction may have to take place in order for it to work. But that's the best suggestion I could give with the system. if it really is a hassle to go through your retainer's inventories to find the item needed and you aren't just asking for free range of where you can craft, I could see them doing it.

However, if you are asking for free range of retainer's inventory regardless of location, you are honestly asking for to much because you are suggesting a resource draining convenience because you can't be bothered to take the 1-2 mins it would take to just take it out of the retainer's inventory and put it into your inventory.

But that's just my take on it, they already have the resource to allow you to right click search for items, and they even tell you which part of the inventory they are in. Another possible suggestion I could offer is introducing a toggle option that will highlight items you right-click search for until you hover over them. So if you have issues with being blinded by the overwhelming amount of items in your inventory, I believe that could be easily fixed if they just introduced a way to provide a bolded border for items you right-clicked search for, possibly limiting it to up to 4 items.

It works the way it does because of 1.0!!!! I explain all this in my thread actually. (along with the restrictions you listed since I think such a thing would most likely need be done in an instanced area anyway)

Taking items out of retainers to drop selling items needs to stop, it was in the game with how 1.0 worked, it shouldn't work like that in 2.0+
We need different ways of managing items, this system does not work anymore.
We need more ways to store things just for storing so we are not overpaying for retainer rental.

For houses, at least outside, there is actually a retainer locker or something like that. If it was possible to use it inside, too, those would be the perfect item for another 'access Retainer storage' mechanic.

I hope we will be able to craft through retainer inventories. Its really annoying and time consuming to open 1 by one looking for the item and go on..especially when each one of the crafting items asks for like 3-6 items..

I love this feature in other MMOs-- it'd definitely be a welcome feature from me. It would make the constant struggle to find everything on my retainers (because I don't organize because I'm bad) much easier. :P

Maybe allowing cafting while the retainer's inventory window is up. Of course would only work if the retainer is summoned

My guess is that the way retainer inventories work this would be really difficult to do. Not that it doesn't have merit, just guessing why it would be difficult to implement.

That being said the retainer system is due for a bit of an overhaul as it is. Switching between retainers is far more clunky and convoluted than it needs to be and the menus are also overly clunky and bloated.

A more simple answer would be to let us store materials in a crafting station tied to housing and apartments and when crafting at said station we can pull those mats from the station.

Would also alleviate most of the inventory woes in the game as well.

+1 for housing storages

It's so useful to be able to craft with the materials in your "bank". Really would love for it to come soon in FFXIV :), it's in WoW already and it does so much for your inventory space!

WoW also has a separate bank for crafting items. For as stubborn and overly controlling the WoW devs are, they've made good QoL changes for inventory space recently. Please give glamour wardrobe, Yoshida.

I imagine this wouldn't be too difficult to program. An algorithm, or at least a piece of it, already exists in a way. Item search detects items in your retainer inventory already.

However, item search only searches for one item at a time. Having the crafting log search for multiple items at a time through your retainer inventory might cause server-side issues, and I imagine that's the only reason why this hasn't been implemented yet.

The Retainer Dance is so incredibly clumsy. It's the epitome of menu hell. Click retainer one, whoops I clicked retainer two by accident. Escape, wait for animations, click retainer 1, click item storage, click retrieve quantity, whoops clicked retrieve all from. Send to retainer, no not sell, ugh. Escape, buyback, escape, items, split a few off, return to retainer...

Okay, maybe nobody's that clumsy all in one interaction. But the amount of fidgeting I feel like you have to do to do anything with retainers makes storing and retrieving things a real hassle. It's not game-breaking, but it'd be one of the biggest quality of life changes they've ever made if they let us craft or glamour from retainer storage.
