Should I give my Monk Determination Matetia or not?

I'm honestly not sure. It's description is really vague and doesn't give you a real idea of how much it actually affects your stats.

My Monk's determination is 507 and my ilvl is 265. Is it a good idea to add determination materia to my Monk or is it just a horrible idea...? o~o

Only if you are at the crit cap for the gear piece and can't meld anymore crit onto it

Grab crit. When it's capped, grab det. Acc and Skill Speed fight for third place.

K, thank you everyone. Athough I have five critcal hit materia equiped and that stat is 937. Do I add more of that materia cus it says I can add more and I'm not sure if that's a good thing or bad... ;u; Also, I...added have like six Skill Speed Materia and only have two accuracy materia meled... I'm all unbalanced, huh?

My BiS (uses alot of savage gear including 12s) at 270 hits acc with food, I have all crit and det melds, with 1 ss I think due to not being able to meld a max crit or det V, always stack crit as high as possible, with food mines somewhere around the 1300 mark.

Acc cap is 695 for 12s I beleive but 700 if you want to guarentee you hit frontal during mechanics. If you're not running savage content though don't worry about getting your acc that high.

I've been running savage content with friends, so it would be a good idea for me to have top gear and melds. ^^ My accuracy is actually above 700 so I guess I have nothing to worry about in that area! XD Though it stinks, I guess I'll have to unmeld all my skill speed materia.... I really love how fast my Monk is now so it's gonna be a tough break up when I collect enough critical hit mateira. ;u;

There's a minor checklist you want to go through:

Do you do extreme trials or savage raids?
Yes - get up to 698 acc (can reach that with food if you have a reliable food source). No - ignore accuracy.

Do you have maxed out crit on the item you are melding?
Yes - Meld det. No - meld crit until gear is fully melded or until you cap on crit.

The stat weights for crit, det, and skill speed are 0.297, 0.212, and 0.173 respectively. This is how much damage they contribute compared to one point of your main stat (which is strength for monk). So prioritize crit >> det > ss.

Thanks Swarley, this'll help me definitely remember this for Monk! Though how come we can't use strength materia? That just occured to me. Is it because it's our main stat and doesn't need anything to boost it? :o

Because typically the main stat for any piece of gear is already maxed and cannot be melded any higher, I believe.

Are skill speed tiers still a thing for monk? I.e. There used to be minimum skill speeds required to optimize your rotation. Once that was met then you'd focus on crit, det, etc.

It was never a high requirement, but if you focused on only crit/det you might not have enough skill speed to meet it.

There is a point where SS has a sudden jump in value (when you can do two boot/true combos for every dkick/twin usage) but the insane amount of SS needed for that generally results in lower overall DPS due to a *severe* drop in crit needed to get to that point.

So unlike Dragoons, no, there's no worthwhile SS breakpoint.

How much skill speed you have just depends on how fast you like punching to be honest.
