As a Healer when it comes to Materia Selection as a White Mage...

What does it boil down to you guys? I've asked this question before in-game and I got a mish-mash of different answers, like SS/Crit or SS/Det. Is it all just personal preference for you guys or is there a combo that generally works out when it comes to playing as a WHM? I had begun to look at SS/Crit but in the sense of being a healer and doing a good job, I have to make sure I can deal out a reputable amount of healing to keep parties alive.

Accuracy, crit, spell speed.

Lots and lots of Accuracy.

Depends a little bit on what you're doing. If you're not currently doing savage content and don't expect to before SB is being released, I wouldn't worry about Acc. Piety is an excellent stat choice for content where you expect to be using alot of Holy, like dungeons or for 24 man raids needing res

Doesn't really matter at this point. If you're planning to do Savage or extremes before Stormblood, cap accuracy (592 total). Other than that, WHM stat weights (for DPS) are Crit > Det > SpS (source). Pie if you feel like you need it.

Outside of savage, I'd actually suggest piety where you can followed by crit. Even in primals, accuracy isn't that horrible and you're going to be replacing your gear long before your DPS is truly going to matter in this type of content. Loading up on as much piety as you can will give you both a slightly bigger MP pool but also more passive MP regen as well. In a poorly performing pug group having a ton of MP and the ability to cope better whilst running on empty because your bard/mch is perma dead is an absolute god send.

Beyond that, crit pretty much became the best secondary once tanks had to drop most of their str gear and got proper HP pools again. A crit cure 1 is a thing of beauty when it comes to efficiency whereas a crit cure2+tetra combo on a tank buster is near enough an instant complete heal and a huge efficiency win to boot.

SS increases your HPS but doesn't do anything for your mp efficiency, det is nice on paper but was watered down to oblivion at 60 =/

If you've got the intention of joining a static and learning A12S then your DPS becomes much more significant and such, accuracies value goes up massively.

Someone already posted the stats weight page for DPS. Outside of DPS... it is personal preference, yes. Do you want to heal a bit faster? Slightly stronger baseline heals? Or max crit power? And then select accordingly

Actually, Det scales extremely poorly once you factor in other equations. bokchoy did a full analysis on reddit why SpS comes out ahead.

As for the OP, unless you plan to trial Savage, it doesn't matter at this point. Alex is essentially over, though plenty still run it. Nonetheless, my current WHM build (and the relic I don't yet have) is here.

Your materia melds should be nothing but accuracy because you're going to need all slots melded to reach 592. There is nothing that hits hard enough in this game thats going to require you to meld other sub stats on the assumption that your heals aren't currently potent enough to keep parties alive. If any healer believes that way then they need to improve how they heal, when and what they're casting in response to damage rather then look to materia melding to make them more potent. Now if we're talking sub stats in general and which is best for white mage then there is a correct answer however its somewhat subjective depending on play style. I'm going to assume we're actively dps'ing when safe to do so like a good healer.. if not then nothing i'm going to say applies to you so do w/e you want.

For white mage specifically it should be acc to cap then crit and piety. The reason for crit is not only does it boost your healing output more then det (hots can crit per tick) but you're increasing the chance that your best ability assize will crit offensively, causing extremely high damage to multiple targets without diminishing returns. As far as pie goes you want enough that you can take advantage of being able to dps and heal and raise in long encounters without running oom. So basically the more the better if you can really balance healing and dps well. Also assize scales with your max mp, the more you have larger the 10% return every 90 seconds.

I don't run Savage but I do EX trials and 24 mans. I also tend to Holy spam a lot in groups. I found going Pie/SS has really helped me in my playstyle. I have a vast pool of MP and I can get the heals or Holy spam off quickly. I also fill in crit where I can.
