[dev1251] Penalty for using market search feature

I'm incredibly dismayed why the players are being penalized a 5% surcharge in order to actually use this new feature. I was under the impression the entire point was to alleviate the inconvenience of zoning into the wards and playing hide and seek with your seller's npc. Replacing it with a different inconvenience purposefully so is not an improvement.

I'm assuming it's offsetting the seller's tax unto the buyer instead, but will the seller also still be charged their tax in the transaction? The original announcement doesn't cover that.

I know it's not a lot of Gil, and a few players may not emphasize with my disappointment, but it's more of a principle matter. In order to be frugal or if you are starting anew and don't have much funds to spend, that you have to still use the old method which really this implementation should have completely done away with.

I'm also losing faith in the game due to the complete stubborness not to just implement a true functioning auction house. We kept being promised that if the players requested it enough that it shall be, yet a year later after numerous pleas it's still not being done. Just the lipstick on the pig tweaks to the existing wards and trying to call it one.

You can just save the 5% by running to the vendor.

There is absolutely no reason why this is a bad thing.

This is a fantastic idea for a gil sink. Good design choice here.

It's a "true" AH with a gilsink that can be avoided.

Agreed with the above posters, it's a nice gil sink and a trade off for the convenience of not having to zone into the wards.

the game needs gil sinks. but i do understand. gil sinks are best when they don't affect me :P

I'm just dissapointed in this :

1.Viewing Details of Searched Items
Verifying item quality (whether HQ or NQ) and details regarding materia-crafted items through the Item Search is not currently possible, but we plan to alleviate this some time after patch 1.20b.

With higher quality matts giving significant chances for high quality gear in 1.20, a item quality search has never been more in need.

This "new" market ward feature seems more like a poorly applied band-aid.

If you're too lazy to zone in, then you shouldn't have an issue with paying a measly 5% surcharge for your convenience.

If you're too cheap to pay 5% extra, then you deserve the run around.

This game needs gil sinks, and this is a clever one. Makes it so the fact that there are retainers actually in wards mean something when people can buy from a menu.

I agree. IMO the penalty shouldn't even have a cap...should be 5% more regardless of the value...the price of being lazy.

It's a horrible attempt at adding in a gil sink, especially to a feature that should have been in from day one. This isn't "clever", it's lazy.

it isnt, shouldnt be my fault you made a laggy stupid idea in order to get more money off of people. The market wards was a "good on paper, bad execution" idea from day 1. We already loose money because we cant always sell in the right ward (especially when the ward you want is full) why add mor eon top of that. This charge is basically discouraging using the damn system in the first place...why bother having it if you don't want us to use it?

Having a low cap makes it trivial enough that it doesn't matter, but it makes no sense to implement this new AH-like system and then discourage players from using it.

Square needs to realize that not every player is rolling around with 50-900 million gil. I remade my character on a different server shortly before they nerfed gil rewards from leves and it's a struggle to level and maintain 100+k at any time. I agree with Isaveron and the OP. Bad move, SE.

Up to 4,000 gil.

That means that anything over 80,000 gil is going to have the same surcharge. It costs more money to fly to another city, once (given you're level 41 or above).

I rerolled my character for 1.19 and I've had no problems making money just selling the loot I get from exping, it's still very easy to make lots of money. I've usually got about 1 mil and nothing to spend it on.

Nice!!! So true, I think the idea is that people are thinking their money is going to go away fast, but here is the breakdown.

Buy an item for 100 gil - pay 105 gil.

Buy an item for 1000 gil pay 1050 gil.

Buy an item for 10,000 gil pay 10,500.

Buy an item for 100,000 gil pay 104,000... (Not 105,000)

Buy an item for 1,000,000 gil pay 1,004,000...

And so on and so forth... Up to a cap of 4000 gil max, this is small and since it's not forced, you have the option to choose. :)

But for cheaper items, you don't really even see the gil difference. :)

It's alright. I already know the Donkey Knights can pay the surcharge. They have gil coming out of their ass.

lol @ people whining over an amount of gil they won't even notice spending.

"omg, I normally buy my ingots for 4000 gil but now they're gonna be 4200 gil! This is extortion SE! I don't have 500 million gil I can't afford this!"

If it will make them rage more, I hope the extra surcharge actually goes to the retainer for carrying the gear out to the lazy customers.

On topic, the surcharge cap is necessary to keep the direct purchase method from making the wards obsolete. Like it or not, the population has never been in agreement over the AH topic, and this is the best middle-ground solution that could possibly be implemented. Did all the pro-AH people actually think they would get away without an upcharge for convenience?

This thread symbolizes why I love these forums so much.

It's probably also worth mentioning that in FFXI, the gil sink was from the other side - from listing. But in FFXIV, you'll be able to put stuff up for sale as many times as you like, and gil will only leave the economy when an actual transaction takes place. I like that.

I am fine with this, especially if it's only 5% and capped at 4k... like others have said players are paying for the 'retainer' to bring it to them. Anyway...

If people go to a restaurant don't they leave a tip for the waiter bring them the food while they sit there?

If people order a pizza, don't they add a delivery fee, and once again people tend give a little tip to the person who brought it to them?

If you order online (unless they have a free shipping special), don't people have to pay to have items shipped to them?

Or you can have free shipping and wait longer for the item to arrive, aka... run to the retainer and get it yourself.

Making it less of a gilsink than a traditional AH. Also, every item is now guaranteed to be a "buy it now". You can't get more convenient than that. Add in the new item features when they get done and it's pretty nice.

As far as I'm concerned, the only people who this is an issue for are those who have problems generating in-game income. Anyone like myself who can sit comfortably (nope, I'm not rich either) can easily ignore the fee without any issues. And if it's that big of an issue, take the extra 2 1/2 minutes to walk to the retainer. Easy-peasy.
