Do daily Centurio hunts for i180 and i200 gear. if you don't have them unlocked go to the Forgotten Knight in Ishgard to unlock the first 2 or 3 tiers. After that go to Idyllshire and unlock the last tiers there.
Another way to quickly gear up is to do Aetherochemical Research Facility for the 150 Lore per run for the i230 Lore Gear.
Centurio hunts in the forgotten knight in ishgard will give out 200 pieces, as you get higher i level doing dungeons should get you some lore and scripture tomestones, which give 230 and 260 gear as well. Im guessing you have to complete the ARF before you can unlock the alternate non story related 60 dungeons, so id get the filler gear from daily/weekly hunts to get you past that ilevel gap
beat me to it.
If I remember correctly, you have to unlock grand company hunts before youre allowed to do centurio hunts, i could be wrong, but if youre having trouble getting them unlocked you should swing by the GC place and do that
I don't think I can use the board at forgotten knight, but I guess I could do Aethero. But ugh 150 a run. What about pvp? How does that work, since there's different PvP skills do I need a different hotbar layout?
Nah I don't have an FC. Are they going to relax any of this for 4.0? I might just wait till then.
A lot of people put up PF groups to grind lore tomestones in ARF. Most of these people are working on anima, and they need a practically endless supply of them. You need roughly 13 runs worth of lores(if i did the math right, upgrading your jewelry and belt alone would give you about a 185 ilvl), if you go that route. The biggest effective difference in your gear would come from your weapon though. So the quickie way would probly be to do some PotD runs. Your immediate goal would be to clear floor 50, while getting your gear level to +30/+30. Doing so will let you trade in your aetherpool gear for a padjali weapon(ilvl 235). Clearing enough floors of PotD to accomplish all this will also get you something like 3-4 ARFs worth of lores. It would also mean you can skip upgrading one of the other pieces and still hit the i180 goal. You can mix in a few hunts(HW hunts of rank A or S pay out enough seals to start getting armor after only a couple kills) to speed up the process. And i know this is a silly question, but do you have gil/crafting friends? Because there are crafted sets as high as i255. Id say mix and match a bit, and you can get there in a couple hours. And while you'll need to increase that level even further as you go, the higher you get it the more options you have to keep it going up.
Unlock the board's first two tiers by talking to Aytienne inside the Forgotten Knight. (Lv53:"Let the Clan Hunt Begin" and Lv56:"Better Bill Hunting")
Talk to Yloise in Idyllshire for the third tier (Lv59:"Top Marks").
The Elite tier is from Ardolain in Ishgard (Lv60:"Elite and Dangerous").
Hmm none of them offer quests so I probably missed something. Think I'm just going to wait for 4.0 and level some alt jobs or something. This is like a never ending set of nesting dolls.
Palace of the dead for a couple of hrs. speed run floor 51 -60, reset, repeat. You could open a pf if you don't wanna solo it. Runs like that take 5-8 minutes and giving out 30 poetics, 60 lore, 30 scripture at level 60. If you don't feel like opening up a PF, you can use matched party and these runs take around 12-15 minutes if people are not going for the whole silver chest procedure.
After having collected a bunch of lore that way (still faster then spamming any dungeon except if you're healer/tank with instant queue) you'll be able to buy a set of ilvl 230 gear and can continue your quests. To the same time you're collecting scripture that you can exchange for an ilvl 260 piece once per week if you cap (900 tomes at the moment instead of 450), giving you later on the option to farm the 24 man instance and expert roulettes.
Then there's always the market boards, check for ilvl 250 gear some servers do sell it pretty cheap or pvp, however most people stand around afk since they have no interest in pvping making it horrible for everybody else, therefore I mostly don't recommend it, and again depending on how long your queue might be, potd still faster lol
You could wait till 4.0 but I doubt that there will be any changes being made to the current system since it's pretty simple to get these tomes. A other side effect would be, by the time 4.0 hits and you didn't stock up on level 50 and level 60 gear, you most likely having a hard time getting through the new expansion since it requires the unlock of specific HW dungeons and probably MSQ. I wouldn't wait but that's just my opinion.
Ohhh, I meant Grand Company, like the one you chose after fighting ifrit way back in level 22 or some such, theres a hunt billmaster guy, but as stated before your rank prob has to be second leutinant. They may nerf the requirements for SB, but seriously dont you have to be that rank to unlock pvp?
None of us can play for you, so if you decide to wait thats entirely up to you. But i dont know that its all that likely to get easier for you after the expansion. Based on the question asked, im guessing that youre on the quest that sends you into the Antitower. At some point they changed the rewards from the quests in the 2.x chain to give you more gear and ease the ilvl requirements of the later dungeons, so its possible theyll do this again. However, that wouldnt immediately help you as you wouldnt be able to redo any older quests for new rewards. So at some point you will probly just have to up your ilvl to continue. And mind you, a couple of the strategies explained here would only take a couple hours to do. You dont have to do any of them all at once. Do the pvp roulette a couple times a week, do a run or two of PotD and/or ARF a week, you could even work with Khloe a little and cross your fingers for one of the 3 line combos that gives you the hq 250 armor you can wear(there are 12-13 squares on any card that you can for sure complete without improving your gear at all). Then spend the rest of your time leveling alts or doing whatever else, and youll easily get all the ilvls you need to complete the quest chain so you can start on the stormblood content the moment it drops.
