Global Auction House [Data Center]

So, besides having a local market board would it even be possible to have an auction house linked to a data center to help crafting stuff sell faster?

edit: To clarify, having a separate auction system where you could list items to buy and sell to every server in the data center. I can see this being useful on smaller servers that would give players access to a larger market. Granted it probably would mess up local economies where a few omni-crafters have a monopoly.

Essentially he wants 2 market boards. one for data center and one for server. This is nonsensical because people would always use whatever is cheaper. wh the hell wants to shop both and price compare?

The thing is, making the marketboard datacenter wide would be beneficial in some ways. Preventing monopolizing through sheer numbers, encouraging the population to spread to less populated servers *they seem to want this, and overall economy health on those smaller servers. All reasons to do this, however, i don't see this happening without some form of mega server implementation. Basically gw2 implementation.

Oh, that would be interesting but doing so would result in all the prices getting real low with 5-6 servers sharing the same MB. I don't know, in the same time that would be cool because everything is way to expensive on Ragnarok, but you wouldn't be able to make as much gil as before by crafting

This is a horrible idea. The ones to benefit most would be gil farmers/sellers who would then use this as a way to launder huge amounts of gil from one server to another.

That would really only work for smaller/worthless items sold in bulk as most those are run by bots so don't think they be dealing in big items like HQ level 60 crafts and what not.

Buying HQ items is not the point.

Gil Sellers would no longer be limited to selling their stock on just one server. Here's a quick example:

Buyer (Server A): I need 100 mil Gil
Seller (Server B): Put up bone chips for 100 mil and I'll buy it.

If they have no intention of combining servers into a mega server I dont think we should do this, but I thought Yoshida was talking about it way down the line as a possible thing.. so maybe a little bit before they actually combine them they start to merge the markets? Then after a while they move all of the local products to the global AH..?

It might make it smoother transition, maybe. lol.

So either the customer would be screwed and less people would buy, which is a good point
Or the RMT buy at a higher price so that with the tax the customer still get the right amount which means lots of lost money.

I think either case want to be avoided so RMT shouldn't be a problem on that point

About a month back I was checking the history of a few items. I ran across a sale of an item that was about 5000 Gil. That Item was sold for 84,000,000 Gil. The buyer was a level 16 archer with no other classes/jobs.

Nothing would sell faster if there was a market board designed for a datacenter, in fact it might actually make your product sell slower because now you are competing with 6-10x the amount of people you were before. Think of it like this.

If you server has 50 other people you are competing with and suddenly 6 more servers enter the fray each with 50 people, you are now going up against 350 people total to sell your product, sure you might have more customers but if those other 300 people on the other servers are more aggressive with their selling tactic they will outsell you.

Another big issue is the gil economy on each server, if you were to make a data center based market board it would in essence be like creating a world market where you sell things at 1 price to Russia, China, USA, Canada, Signapore, Japan, Mexico and Australia. Some places may be able to take advantage of the lower prices but those lower prices will also hurt places that rely on their countries "higher prices" to stay afloat. But for the sake of an MMO the locations with more gil will hurt the locations with less gil because they could easily outbuy and flood the market in such a way that makes it harder for them to profit.

If something like this were to work, you would need a new currency that can only be used for the Data-center board, as simple as D-Gil, Gil gained through lets say Eureka and you can use said gil to buy product off other datacenters but that gil you spend and earn from said market board and only be used to buy product from the "Data Center Market Board". This would be harder to exploit because gil can't be used to pass currency to another server, rather it's its own market with it's own unique form of currency that flows through the datacenters as a single overall worth while allowing regular gil to remain where it is.

That's what I said as my 2nd point. The adjustement of the price by the RMT for the customer to get the right amount make the RMT lose more gils. I dunno the RMT prices, but 5M probably isn't nothing. So doing that for every customer wouldn't be good for their business.

It simply wouldn't be doable with the design or the current market board. This only woks in games like gw2 because of the way the board is designed. Allowing you to buy the cheapest in specific amounts regardless of stack size. The sheer size of it keeps re-sellers at bay and the design of it encourages same price listing or small undercuts. 1 coin.

RMT is not going to be any worse or better with this kind of system. RMT will find a way. they always do.

Something like this would help encourage people to actually move back to smaller servers. One of the reasons why people already don't want to move back to them is because their economies are awful. The markets there are seized by a few crafters wanting to make a monopoly, who then set ridiculous prices that nobody on there can hope to afford.

People say that Balmung's economy is bad, but it really isn't from what I've seen. It's MUCH better than the economy was while I was still on Faerie. It's just not as easy to make a quick buck.

Balmung doesn't want your peasant offerings.

Well, when people say "the economy is bad", they generally mean it's harder to make gil due to higher competition.

People would probably despair if they had to compete with some of the JP servers. I only get snippets via a friend, but the prices are, uh... often just half or less than even on Balmung.

Personnally I prefer that than an over inflated MB like Ragnarok. Sure you make money easily with everything overpriced. But uh, you first need the money to then make more money, except if you are an hardcore crafter/gatherer. For people who aren't it's a living hell to survive on those server. Each time I wanna buy raid food my wallet cries blood.

You know that could easily get around the gil limit for when you jump servers if you jump to another in the data center. Them putting something up for sale for a crazy price, you go buy it, then just transfer after you have no more gil, letting you keep about 95% of the gil you transferred by buying stuff.

A couple things I don't understand for the naysayers. All gil come from the same place. No server has bonus gil. Second no item in game I know of has a limited supply. We do have timed nodes. But the whole server can farm the same timed node. Third SE bot/rmt policy is reactive not proactive. They allow all those items and gil into the game. While they do delete some. If X player bought gil, bought the i250 gear I have on MB I don't lose that gil. I don't know what happens to the players account per punishment. But people probably don't buy gil to hoard it.

So while I understand that all servers would have an adjustment period. More then likely down to the lowest possible price someone would do something. Balmung you can buy materia quite regularly for less than vendor price (yes less than vendor). Eventually all servers would be equal and they could remove any gil transfer limit. Not that those mean anything anyways. They are more hassle for players than deterrent.

I mean if rmts did use the system to launder money it would leave a visible paper trail. 100 mil for a bone chip sold by sjsjka akakak wouldn't look fishy to you?

Thinking about it now two systems would be redundant but done properly this could be a good thing. A sell now option would allow you to just get rid of stuff probably at a very low price for instant gil if undercutting wars was a problem.

Heh speaking as a Merchant who was trained by an UlDahian Lalafel.. I would NOT like a global auction house. It would crash so many things. Moment it hit. RMT would come in to dominate certain things. Stocks would never be sold since a lower end server may not buy as much as a higher end server.

Look at Diablo 3. The global AH failed badly.

Plus I do like holding my own niche on the server. Work hard to track my sales there. ;)

Now if you wanna talk about a Global data center FC.... Im game.

I dont think it would be anywhere near the issue it had if it wasnt for the built in RMT. You could make money through it (I made $50 just casually playing, and luck lol), and you could use real money to buy items/gold.

Whales ruined the global RMT AH, the global AH I believe would have been fine without allowing whales to get into it.

(Whale = someone willing and capable to spend large sums of money for in game progress, so a normal person would see 100gold item and be like "wth that's a silly price" but a whale would buy it anyways, driving everything up because that's what people are willing to pay).

Personally would like to see a game make an AH like how gems sold in D3, I hate fighting people at the market and just want it to sell for a fair price. So basically everything is brokered by an NPC, and sold/purchased instantly.

Incomplete? I've been on Balmung. Ironworks gear was going for 600k-500k last I checked and that was December.

You haven't been on Shinryu then (JPN Server).

Yes, even Japanese Servers have their Aetherial Reduction Bots / Unspoiled Node Bots and literally Luminous Fibers in HQ are worth sitting on 20-30k Gil.
So you can imagine a Ironworks Piece is literally 150-200k Gil in the end.

More people selling means more competition, makes the market better for buyers EXCEPT for super rare/luxury items. As a legacy server we have a lot of people with massive piles of Scrooge McDuck gil, so when something gets to be priced at that unknown value or at the "this is super rare to obtain" then prices can be many million no problem, like houses being sold for three to four times their NPC cost. (Thankfully for buyers there is some competition and desire for the ironwork sets, and perhaps the crafters selling them are not too evil haha).

The ornate ironwork versions are usually 3 million + though.

I'm all for it. Larger markets are better, in my MMO experience.
