An Idle Suggestion

Here's something I think would be cool: AFK animations.

I think it would be cool to have class-based AFK animations for characters. For example: AFK Monks could shadow box. MCH clean their guns. SCH play with the fairy, AST shuffle cards etc.

Also, give me a /lean emote. I wanna lean on the wall, dammit.

This is something I never knew I wanted. Also the ability to change your running animation would be amazing, like a gpose but for the way you run.

First I'd like to see more options for the job-based weapon drawn idles. Especially for female MCH, that one in particular ruins the job for me.

Then there's stuff like male Miqo'te have that one sitting pose where they're perched on things, why don't female Miqo'te have access to that?

Honestly, there's a fairly strong argument to be made to just go and port all the different poses across to the other genders so everyone can have more options in defining their character's own identity... for isn't that one of the top selling points for this game, as an extremely lore-heavy universe?

...Recently tried an MMO that had idle animations. Mostly the game was bad but it was a pretty neat touch.

That said, if dev resources are limited, I'd prefer a little variety in the weapon poses.

I think Blade and Soul has this for specific classes, would be cool to have.

I would also like to be able to use combat actions in GPose. I mink, so getting a good snap mid-dragon kick would be amazing.

We've actually gotten a response about that here

I feel like Summoner and Scholar would get short end of the deal as usual. If I'm not mistaken it'd be more work to make them interact with a summoned pet since it's actual 'object', so we'd probably get some low key animation that involved the grimoire.

It would be nice for some classes but what about others that don't have some defined item or action? I can't think what a white mage like myself would do.

What about flipping through pages of their book/studying, maybe occasionally pulling some odd shape/elemental partially through. A rare one could be them pulling something highly unwanted out and hurriedly/embarrassingly closing it shut.

I played another MMO that had this, though it was mostly tied to equipped weapon rather than the class itself, I believe. Not a high priority thing (especially since people are likely dreaming up flashy idle animations, which MIGHT end up causing performance issues in densely populated areas), but would be nice.

Here's how I imagine some of them working out.

- CNJ/WHM: Raises staff with streams of water traveling upwards, giving way to rocks pushed by wind circling the tip of the staff.
- THM/BLM: Holds out arms, summoning a spiky orb of ice over the left hand and a fireball on the right hand. The staff remains on their back, but lightning courses through it.
- ACN/SCH: Flips through their book, a greenish/golden aura surrounding them all the while.
- SMN: Writes in their book so furiously that it actually gets set on fire. The Summoner puts out the fire with a gust of wind.
- ARC/BRD: Practices playing on the harp, OR practices their aiming by drawing their bow.
- PGL/MNK: Engages in some shadowboxing, then bows when finished.
- GLD/PLD: Draws their sword and does a flourish with it.
- MRD/WAR: Finds a random rock from out of nowhere and cleaves it in half.
- DRK: Sharpens/cleans their sword, with a dark aura surrounding it. (Can't really think of much else with a weapon that massive.)

Anything to make it look like Arcanists have a reason for their chosen weapon? Yes, please.

This is a lovely idea and very thought provoking. I main NIN and it would be cool if they could sit and meditate while idle. All the while, their Mudra symbols would float around them with white energy like the Spears from their LB3. DRK could stand with it's sword point down (like the female pose which I really wish was available to males as well) and could have a pool of dark energy swirling around their feet.

That sounds pretty fun actually.

I really wish we had different default stances to choose from in general. I really hate the way Elezen male stands with his chest all puffed out. Our running animation sucks, too. They should add different default stances based on attitude or something like that. Elezen males just have the worst of it which is probably one of the reasons why they are so unpopular. It's definitely one of the reasons why I didn't start as one.

i'm all for new odle animations but i feel they should be linked to the race over the class/job. Not because I wouldn't want one for them, but certain jobs might have a hard time creating one. As someone mentioned having and Arcanist interact with the pet wouldn't work as we might expect. Plus with certain weapons, their might be clipping issues we might not foresee in the future. But if the animations are linked to the race they would still feel unique.

This is cool, definitely something I can get behind. Buy I think they need an auto AFK kick more... on more populated servers after a certain time of being AFK. So that people who actually want to play the game can.. and have the choice of making a character on a server with their friends.

I can see how that could actually be quite good. I'm just cautiously optimistic at best when it comes to the book users, I also like the idea of tiny variation in a extended repeat, which would be little additional effort I would think.

But don't we already? To a point anyway, if I have changed my default standing pose with /cpose once it is remembered and he always used that, even through logouts. (That of course requires togling of the automatic pose switch)

Unless they add at least 3 animations it'll get tiring fast (watching everyone do the same idle animation, just think about it).

I prefer the stances we have now.
