Oooookay Serious Lichenweed Issue

So I just had a match where when it started.. 15secs into the match a SMN managed to get to our boxes and instantly destroy our offensive supplies. Meaning the other side had 2 DPS with power buffs. We stood no chance.

Now.. Based off of my video recording, it took 10 seconds(With Swiftsong!!) to simply get to the boxes. And swiftsong is just a tad slower than Sprint. So within that 15secs, a SMN could run and go destroy our box. In only 12secs he was able to attack it!! Honestly I didn't touch the crates because I thought the WAR was going to stack off them but he didn't, so within that 2 secs it was it was already at 50% HP by SMN.

What if there's a MNK? What if we want to.. I dunno, have 10secs prep for buffs before running in? Seems like a massive oversight IMO. They shouldn't even be that close that quick.

I can foresee it now.. A new trend starting where range DPS just one-shots the box like the match I had. <.<

Really needs to be fixed.

I mean just get your ranged dps to do the same? Either that or just kill your boxes faster, I mean you're closer to your own so you should be able to get to it in like 5s. It's not like you should expect the opponent to wait around for your team to get stacks.

It takes 10secs to get there. Most likely 9 with Sprint. I'll get the video up when I can but I honestly don't find that idea fun.

"Who can get to the enemies boxes first >:0". In the original Feast map there's no way you can even get close to the other side. In Lichenweed, you can get there in 12secs. I feel pretty certain that it's an exploit. There's alot of things bad with Lichenweed but that's pretty bad.

It's not an exploit. I believe in an effort to encourage competition over buffs (less at the start and more during the match, the Lichenweed map connects along the "back" route behind the large tree. If someone's fast enough and bypasses their own, they can attack the enemy team's boxes and prevent them from being able to grab their buff. But in doing so, they are effectively throwing themselves at the enemy team early on. Simply put, if you see them coming, CC or KO them and then take your buffs.

I also think there's a bit of local meta mentality at work. Perhaps non-US players are less likely to attempt to sabotage the other team, and the map design permitting buff stealing was an oversight? For obvious reasons, I can't say this with certainty, but after watching some of the matches at Fan Fest, I noticed things play out VERY differently in other regions.

IMHO it's the worst map in FFXIV PVP, it's just not fun to play, at all.

This back route is blocked on 4x4 Feast maps, much in the same way as the old arena areas are under water (so you can't knock people off the bridge)

I don't understand why the offensive boxes are so far away on that curve area, it should of been closer to the base so they could of enlarged the middle area a tad bit.

Honestly, I think what should happen is that they change the it so the boxes spawn in the area players spawn in at match start.

I've seen this happen once.
I took it as fair game since we didn't CC them. I've learned my lesson. As tank (except WAR) I don't touch the boxes I go straight scouting who is taking what on the opponents side. If I see someone barrelling in, I will be ready!

I saw a situation where both sets of boxes were getting mashed as soon as we got there (sprinting). The opposition then pushed us back onto our spawn point & CC/ranged AoE obliterated us, picking us off as we respawned. It was so much fun.... for them. XD

Not an issue at all. You just need to not let that happen.

I guess from now on I'll just destroy the boxes and be "Nice Job'd" to death. Because not everyone knows about it. Platinums and even a Diamond had boxes stolen because.. how would we know?

Good call, I do the same thing on this map with WAR now too, also a good way to build stacks on the enemy and try to get the opposing melee to kill themselves if they try to attack me. Most tanks wont' do this because they can't "tank" and do damage at the same time. If they get too far on our side just holmgang them early for the kill or to get them to waste purify before full swing.

I've tried so many box steals and it's never paid of. Actually surprised people are managing this is it in 8s?

There's a back route behind the tree in 8s that's almost a straight shot between the buff boxes. If a ranged is fast enough, you can sabotage the enemy team's boxes.

4v4 matches

Ninjas in 4v4 can Shukuchi to the box, Kasatsu, then Raiton the box to instant kill it lol.

Reasons why I see it as broken and not fair. It only works with some jobs. I call that broken/bad design. NINs can Shukuchi and destroy them. SMN can use Painflare + Energy Drain or Death Flare. MCH can use Gauss Round + Ricochet on the run.

I'm a BRD, what can I do? I have to stop to attack. What can a DRG or MNK do? See in the original map it was always fair no matter what, now with Lichenweed it's more about which team has the job with that advantage.

Hastemarch for when sprint wears. Don't use Wanderer's. Bloodletter > Straight > Low HP Kill ability.

Or you can detect an incoming NIN, and bind anyone coming for your stuff.

Also a Bard and I've stolen buffs with Empyreal Arrow + Feint. It's actually easier than on other jobs because you have Swiftsong to get there a bit sooner because Sprint doesn't last quite long enough. Anyway, at this point getting your own buffs is pretty much a formality again, stealing them was a thing in the first few days but now people have caught on to it and pretty much everyone sprints to their boxes. Now I'll still Sprint for the enemy boxes, I'll almost never manage to steal one but I'll usually get slept, bound, stunned or heavied (or all of those!) because they want to make sure I can't steal, and then I hobble back to my own base with a nice DR to help me get my opening burst off.
