Let's do a test...(viera related)

What would you do, if the race ever became available...but the twist, is that you would have to pay 20$ to unlock it on the mogstation and let's say, a bundle of 25$ for the race and a fantasia.



Would you? Just curious if people would be willing.

I would if it was FF12 Viera but the sad truth is we're never gonna get Viera's as a playable race in FFXIV

What does a question about a hypothetical situation that will never come to pass matter to anyone, when it really comes down to it?

I honestly don't give a flying bunny tail about viera either way- if SE adds them or doesn't add them, I'll be happy staying Roe.

I am getting to the point where I wish SE would just give a flat 'Yes, we will be adding them in patch X.' or 'No, it will never ever happen in FF14.' just so that people will stop making thread after new, pointless thread about them. There are 2-3 threads already on the front page alone, you couldn't post in one of them?

I would prefer if we didn't have to pay an additional fee for a race on top of our subscription fee and possible future expansion the race may be introduced in. If there was no other choice, I guess I would bitterly shell out $20 for viera.

The only example of this is SWTOR. If there are others I don't know, however SWTOR had all the races have the same body animations so it was more, "pay for a tint".

With how Square has wanted to make lore and story for everything, this will never ever happen. You can't Mog Station in game lore, not with races. The minions have those little things on them, but you can't do that to a race that is suppose to exist in the world somewhere.

Just for the Viera race?

No, I prefer my Au Ra. I don't mind new races being introduced, but I wouldn't pay that for just a remodeled character skin.

And no I wouldn't pay extra. I'm happy with my giraffe.

I am not paying 20$ for a race.

I'd personally prefer if SE didn't waste my subscription payments paying their developers to make trash that doesn't matter (like races and glamor) and instead work on the actual guts of this game that players really care about. You can get your dress-up simulator somewhere else.

Can we stop with the Viera threads, please? Yoshida sad won't happend. At least anytime soon.

The day SE adds races to the Mog Station, is the day that I will quit. I love Viera, but if they were to sell them via Mog Station, then this means SE will also add other stuff like endgame gear, special potion to increase stats, lock alot of content behind a item that you need to buy from Mog Station.

When this has happend, FFXIV is doomed.

Might aswell, start selling jobs and character customization there aswell.

Blue Mage: 150 dollars
Chemist: 150 dollars
Dancer: 200 dollars
Real primal summons: 500 dollars

New faces: 75 dollars.
Beards: 40 dollars.
Tattoo: 80 dollars
Long Hairstyles: 250 dollars

They already are selling hairstyles, no?

Jobs wouldn't fly, tho - For some reason, people throw a big hissy fit if you can gain a temporary advantage that doesn't matter for anything in the long run but don't if you can get a permanent exclusive cosmetic that doesn't matter for anything in the long run either.

So with jobs being permanent, that'd be labeled Pay to Win for sure.

Yep, but they said that long hairstyles is not possible and would take to much work. That is why I wrote long hairstyles. If SE were to sell races via the Mog Station, I am sure that jobs would follow aswell. I dont see how it is Pay to Win, since in PvE you are not competing with others. There might be a Pay to Win issue if those jobs are better then the current jobs in PvP.

Well, I wholly expect them to put up Ysayle's hairstyle and outfit at some point. Even if it will clip horrible with everything (including your backside) and look like a fugly drape if you're not standing still.

If it happen i wouldnt buy it. Same if i love viera and want viera so much there are limits...

Depends.

If Male Viera were similar to female Au Ra (height, build, poses and the likes), then yes, I'd probably go for it. If we just got another hulking monstrous male version of the race with rage faces, overly-detailed, 'Beast,' characteristics, and the sort, then no. I'd never touch the race at all.

I'm not really interested in Viera to be honest. So regardless if they mog stationed it or put it in the game normally it doesn't matter to me.

Everquest 1 and Everquest 2 as well. I think The Elder Scrolls Online too?. SWTOR was kinda in the same boat as the other games. Once being subscription game only to going to a hybrid FTP game with optional subscription. SWTOR followed the SOE model for EQ1 and EQ2, where all the races are open and unlocked to players if they maintain a monthly subscription. If a player was FTP then yes they would have to buy the race unlock.

Not pay to win, but rather paying for something I already payed for with my damn subscription

I don't even want the Viera race to begin with.

And a race locked behind a paywall? Get out of here. Seriously, even just as a what-if scenario idea.

$20 is quite cheap, some people pay $50 more for all the collectors bonuses in some games which don't amount to much.

As it's a subscription game and not a free microtransaction game I don't think it would be appreciated. What is baffling is that ppl who wont play it threaten to quit if it's behind a paywall. Even when the question is clearly a hypothetical to see if people that like it would put their money where their mouth is.

Same here. I am not much interested in Viera to start with, and I certainly wouldn't be willing to pay for them.

Even as someone indifferent the cash shop, this would give me serious pause and concern on the direction FFXIV is headed. Once a company crosses that line, you start to wonder. I certainly wouldn't buy it nor would I necessarily unsub, but I'd be nervous.

The reason some people who don't want it regardless are saying they would quit if it was paywalled is because of what other portions of the game that ends up opening to potential paywalling, which pushes the game down a slippery slope towards the FTP/P2W model of other MMOs. It's less about it being the particular race in question paywalled, and more about what is being paywalled.

While the idea of seeing "if people will put their money where their mouth is," as you so perfectly put it, is not bad as a concept, I feel the general animosity that occurs in cash shop discussions may creep into this one.

I will pay £40 to ban ppl for making threads about Viera or requesting it :P
