Instead of Auto block & Parry

The early Block system (Parry have always been auto so nothing yo mention atm):

My belief

Can SE please get rid of this Auto Block & Parry crap & take hit after block ? This is
bullshit, when you succes in block or parry the hit are now being neutralize and player should not take any dmg.

How about this instead of that crappy Auto & dmg take after neutralize a hit replace with this :

While Blocking & Parrying theplayer will not take any dmg until Damage Block/Parry continues reduce until it reach it limit cap, and there the player are now not being able to block until the skill can re-use after 10s or 20s CD. Everytime player re-use the Block/Parry

In this case, Material is not a issue either, instead of increase rate of block/parry, they are now increase the dmg you can block/parry

Just another the way to play, in my belief when you are in combat you need to always be active (no not about spam 11111), need to think and need to know their roles. The old system is to much active (I like that though with a few tweak it ll be amazing) the new system is to lazy, please add thing to be more moderate gaming and not to much about this or that side.

note: while the 2 system is some what similar with a few different I do hope the reply to against this is not about the excuse of "I am to lazy" because I dont suggest idea to you, but to what I think can give this game a better gameplay

I definitely agree that the new system is lazy. The original system would have been fine with some tweaks and refinement, but they instead opted to throw the baby out with the bathwater. I'm not a fan of the new combat system at all.

I think the fun should come in systems that are fun (like linking mobs, AOEs, Combos, team combos etc.) Not ...blocking....

It's not about blocking, it's about being engaged in an active combat system. The current version we have is slow, boring, and tedious. Not only should I not be able to sit and read a book while in combat, I shouldn't ever want to. FFXIV currently fails both of these tests.

And "Blocking" Will Solve that? no Linking, Combos, and team combos will get there much faster.

I mean no body plays Great action games like Devil may cry, God of war, and Ninja gaiden for their awesome "blocking" lol. We want the fighting to be fun and blocking isn't the system we should be working on here.

But unlike those games you listed, at least what they have in them is working properly.

Blocking now is so useless and I don't even have and block relevant skills on my bar. I shouldn't have to apply 50+ things just to have a better chance at blocking. I think the system was fine before also and they could have worked off of it.

But instead, they listened to the people that complained on the forums and BAM, we get what we got.

The direction the battles are heading in FFXIV with individual combos from everyone, including the tank, and battle regiments later on will allow for more engaging and dynamic battles (Hopefully).

What you are suggesting is simply making one of the damage mitigation skills to be renamed as blocking/parrying and have a set amount of damage that it can absorb, like Stoneskin or Phalanx. For the moment, without really looking at how battles will be come 1.20, I would say wait until you try how battles will play out.

If adjustments were made to the current system, it would be fine. A lot of GLA's have shown they can tank Ifrit without a shield and produce the same results. The shield block rate in battle is so ridiculously low, even gear with a lot of DEX made no difference. Currently, my GLA is never used for any situation, since my MRD dominates in tanking. I hope these adjustments are made, I want GLA to be the best tank, that is all they are good for currently.

Yes basiclly this. We are getting a better battle system. Making the blocking system as it was is silly. All they need to do is increase the block rate not change it back to what it was.

you are far off the point of the thread, from what I see either:

1. you havent read anything but just post
2. you read everything and fail to understand the point of the thread or fail in thinking
3. you fail to see that this is a battle system fix which havent anything to do with the thing you mention

Ok let me make this clear. I am saying the blocking is fine. So i disagree with what you were saying. Increase the block rate of couse but to move to your system i do not think it is best for the game.

Also i was obviously responding to this point: "Just another the way to play, in my belief when you are in combat you need to always be active"

So what i am saying is to be active and have fun, focusing on blocking in NOT the way to go.

Have you played with the new battle system to know if it will interfere or not? Do you know how busy will you be handling combos and enmity generating skills to know you will have the time to put up or down your shield arm? Are you able to do other skills with the system you are suggesting should be implemented?

if you only say the bold text above then that should be enough because the thing you take as example are complete different with what you said.

You say the fun is fun and dont want to focus on block but you talk about Ninja Gaiden & DMC, the 2 game that player either focus on evade or block the mobs attack before strike back (DMC have block & counter)

this is from self exp, as I had encounter the similar system in some games so even if FFXIV is different from other game, the different wont be that big that I need to learn it from scratch

Im sure DMC and NG main focus is the kills and big monsters but W/E. I see you just are gonna yell fail if someone disagrees with you so ill just leave.

You should take dmg when you block, it hurts when you block with a shield. Also they may fix the block rate with next patch since shield skills gonna be GLA only it wont be so broken on mages anymore

the mage technical dont use shield because of stay in attack mode will not let them recover mp, and when the Block & Parry become a skill, even mage equip shield, it ll be useless for them as well because they dont have skill to active it

And the "hurt" from block is technical the impact that cause slightly paralyze (if the hit is a heavy one), not a direct dmg so it shouldn't be count as dmg

If the boss/enemy fight mechanics design ppl are pushing towards a direction which I think they're going for, then I don't think that, by the time they're finished with some of the later boss fights, that any tank will have ANY time at all worrying about their block/parry cd's when they will be bombarded with tasks like positioning, enmity generation combos, etc...

Why?

Because they're currently designing fights WITHOUT taking into account that you need to press a button to activate block/parry. Also, the balancing of stats will also change with a system change like that.

Not saying that your idea is bad, but I'm not sure whether the dev team has already finalized overall outlook of the battle system and how it'll merge together with future fights, item stat distribution, and character customization options. You have to consider all of these together when changing designs like these.

regardless of what system they put in for tanking or how engaging it becomes, tanking ultimately turns into a pattern or prioty with cooldowns, and before you know it you'll be doing things without even thinking because you know something is about to happen. mechanics are 1 way to spice things up, along with combos, since these require you to actually pay attention. however over time mechanics get dull and combos will become routine, so the only real engaging part is doing as much as you can while actively maintaining threat or deciding what combo to use in a given situation.

The damage we sustain from a partial block or parry makes some sense.

If an ogre or Ifrit punches me while my shield is up, the shield is going to take a lot of the impact, but I think I'm going to get hurt still. But it's going to hurt a lot more if I don't use a shield.

An example of the parry is if the enemy is thrusting a sword at your heart. A good parry will deflect the attack, the enemy misses. A partial parry causes the attack to avoid the heart, but the sword thrusts your shoulder instead.

The Blocking and Parry gauge you propose, would a player be able to attack while they are actively blocking and parrying? If they cancel the ability, will their Block/Parry cap restore to full instantly or will it gradually recover? And can a player auto-block or auto-parry at all with this system?

I think for a game like FFXIV since it is less action-oriented, passive chances to block and parry would suit the game style. With the 1.20, I hope to see abilities that allow players to reinforce their blocking (Guard or Ambidexterity) or parry (Foresight) with shortened cooldowns, increased durations, and/or increased number of attacks deflected before it ends. These abilities would be in addition to auto-block and auto-parry.
