Would You Rather: A note on playable races.

Personally if you were to ask me I'm more in favor of the Race specific animations, XI has a awesome habbit of animating their races differently (Elvaan Marksmenship weapons with one hand or Taru's tendacy to do backflips)

While I see the appeal of adding more playable races to the game this would make racial animations impossible to keep up with. I think a small consolidated varied set of races gives everyone a option to personify themselves and added motions add to that uniqueness.

Let's not even get started with armour modeling either for new races that aren't (Human ragdoll) formfitting.

What do you guys think?

I think we can have both.
Not now, obviously, but later, after 2.0, at expansion time, ..and so on:o

I'm happy with the races we already have though, I don't need more for quite a while.
Race animations - nice but also nothing we NEED.

It'd be nice to have both, but I feel that it depends on how combat remains.

If it's still a big zergfest with everything, I definately want more races. I'm tired of so many Miqotes and just think after 2.0 xD Nothing but male ones.

And i want a more proportioned tall person unlike elezen. If they don't add more races than planned, I'll stick with female highlander/roegadyn. The more diverse the population, the cooler I feel IMO. And I think they could keep up with race specific animations.

Personally, I hate they don't change it, because It may end up being too late to "change races" after they do this.

Personally, I would rather be Miqote, as I like long coats, capes, long sashes, or anything else that dangles.
And the tail was a cheap way for me to mimic that in armor.

But from FFXI I hated the constant "Lean forward/hunched" stance mithra took in combat.

So I tried both Miqote and Hyur to see which I would prefer, and the over all similarity was (for me) nice, the sword/shield stance was a deal breaker for me.

I went Hyur like I thought I would.

TL;DR
I wouldn't want to have wasted all this time on Hyur, to get some annoying animations that make me hate my character (like i did in XI, god i hated her lol)

Already hate the way Hyurs run.
Feels like my battle hardened Lancer has never run a day in her life before. :/


Now if an MMO gave us options as to which stances/animations would be our default (like a personality based option for each race) now THAT would be great. (We won't get that... ever, since the cost to make, won't grab enough new players to equal out the costs.)

Pretty sure the animations are not currently shared between races, so you technically already get race specific animations. They just aren't very unique because we don't have much to vary at the moment. I'm sure everyone's tired of the mantra, but "wait for 2.0".

They aren't currently "Shared" but they are more/less aside from the emotes ported from each race and tweaked to be natural for the character.

I don't swing much different than a Hume, Lalafell, Roe, Miquote where in XI I had a special stance that only my race took when weilding certain weapons. Sure my Elvaan looked a little like a nancy holding one hand on his hip when using a one handed sword but it showed his "Refined" nature that is in the Elvaan lore.

Mithra had a rather feral nature to their strikes and stances

Galka took powerfull swings

Tarutaru looked....cute?

I vote for C also lol. The more the better! ^.^

You can't always have your cake and eat it too.

I would pick, probably, animations. If it was a life or death situation.

Very awesome idea to add to character creation (or choose in a configuration menu). :D

Option D) Clan-Race specific towns (not a one cant enter it hut either; half the size of the cities) The lore paints such a pretty picture about them...yet there are none! D:>

I know the feeling! In XI I ended up hating my hume because she was boring compared to the others and didn't want to play a kitty because of the battle stance and that Taru had facial hair! (I swear they did, do a close up! lol) Small potatoes I know but it is a 'deal breaker' when choosing a character.

Also about character creation, that's an awesome idea! In CoH they had something similar to this and it was amazing even down to the point of being able to choose color of weapons and spell effects.

More races.

IMO having race/gender/clan-exclusive content with unique animation would be much cooler than having race-exclusive animation for generic actions.
