Materia Tier I and II are Junk Items.

I'd like to see a "Materia Merger" contraption, to let you take 3-5 low level materia put and them together for a chance at a higher tier. Because quit frankly nobody cares about the lower tiers atm. They are a junk item right now.

I am sick and tired of Mind II can you please lower the drop rate for that. Can I get an amen! brutha say whaat

Nope, they are not junk items. I find them useful for my lower classes and I simply put them in lower armours to sell to add a plus value to it (sells faster). Also, forbidden materia allows you to put many lower tier materia in your gear to mimic higher tier materia (it is risky, but still easier to get many lower tier materia).

If you won't use lower tier materia, why not give them away as presents to new players? :D

As much as I love what you say, would that mean 7 Ahriman wings = dodore wing?

I like the eternal materia meld loop to get rid of unwanted materia. Make an item.... spiritbond it... turn it into materia... if it sucks attach it to new gear... spiritbond...

Keeps it out of inventory

What would be cool is maybe turning them in, for credit, say faction, seals or anima!

That would give them a much greater use/worth

I'd buy t2 for 2 anima exchange, like crazy

whether you think its junk or not i'd still like to do something else with it than NPC or make the least impressive triple bonded hat mnd + 14!

I'm surprised how close minded everyone appears to be on this subject. I'm with the OP, I love the idea of POSSIBLY being able to meld lower level materia into higher level. There should be a similar risk-reward scheme as there is with forbidden materia; there is a chance of success, but it is not guaranteed. The more/stronger materia you attempt to meld together, the higher chance of failure. This would give us a use for the 20-30 MIND I/II's we all have laying around.. WTF SE??

Anyways, I would appreciate if anyone opposed to this could state a logical reason why this is a bad idea. There could even be an NPC that does this for a fee, adding to the system's value that of a gil sink as well.

I love OPs idea, please give it to us!

At the moment some tier 1 feel like junk, although others like magic crit potency you do see +20 on a tier 1 now and again which is welcome.

I assume if materia could be upgraded that this would make the lower tiers more expensive as they would be in demand? or perhaps in turn stablise the prices of tier 3 and 4 bringing them down a notch? The whole system is prohibitive because of the price of higher tier materia. Its made even worse by the fact gear can break.

An alternative suggestion would be to allow a player to combine a tier 1 & 4, or a tier 2 & 3 together to get a beefed up materia. That would take some of the melding risk away in that the risk is associated with materia alone and not gear. It would near guarantee a sale of tier 1 and tier 2 as no one would use a tier 4 and 3 alone when they have the option to beef it up (just a little bit) with a tier 1 and 2 before melding.

If you meld a low tier materia first , then the chances of successfully melding more increases
there is no need for a way to combine low tier materia - they are just as useful as high tier.

They are junk items because the leveling curve is a god damned joke and no one spends enough time with the same equipment at low levels to bother with them.

I wouldn't say low tiers are junk. If I'm L15 and want a good weapon for when I'll be L18 to do Shposhae, I can meld my weapons and make them stronger for the adventure. That's if you don't care about progression but only at the only purpose to have fun.
Other than that, yeah, that would be kinda cool =)
Having the possibility to merge two Materie even of different type to put out another one... That could give space to new Materie in the future.
