SE: Please show MCH some love in Stormblood

Apparently, each SAM katana will have its own unique scabbard. It seems likely Red Mage will receive the same treatment with their Magic Crystal Medium. Bard bows all have unique quivers, and AST star globes all have unique card holders. So why is it that every MCH gun has the exact same Aether Converter/Gauss Barrel? Please address this issue with 4.0 release. The Machinists of Eorzea deserve the same treatment as all other jobs that receive secondary devices as part of their main arm!

The aether converter and gauss barrel are items given to us by the Skysteel manufactory,only place to get one and we are (story-wise) one of only a few MCH. The guns found in various dungeons or other methods are just that,guns. When we pair them with our unique tools makes us a MCH. I also would love it to have custom designs,but it seems like lore reasons keep them as they are.

But by that logic, there would be no reason for a bard to change quivers or AST to change card holders either. Even with the lore, there's nothing saying we cant swap those items willy nilly like the other jobs do, or that we can't "find" new ones along with our guns in a dungeon.

I think the issue is you're not using original ammo in old guns for example, you have a universal ammo creator at your hip- which is new recent technology. Basically what you want doesn't exist, although I suppose /new/ ones could be made.

Difference exists for the bow which all bows need quivers, and arrows. You have a gun but none of its own unique ammo and the converter wouldn't exist for many of the guns you see. At least that's my understanding (converter is new tech, quiver is not).

The barrel fitting on straight at minimum would be nice though lol. And I can understand people may want variation, was just suggesting there is probably lore standing behind the discrepancy you're pointing out. Could still make new glamour options, egi glamour for MCH lol.

Whilst we're at it, can we have the option to 'glamour' the Rook Autoturret to be a Magitek Bit and the Bishop Autoturret to be an Allagan Node?

Probably the reason we don't get custom lunchboxes is because most guns have unique animation parts and blahblahwedon'tcare PLS AT LEAST NEW BARREL/CONVERTER DESIGNS.

Ok, so I have 2 friends, one is a MCH, one is a BRD and they got relics together. My MCH friend is a bet jealous of my brd friend because how she has glowing arrows while the MCH beg is generic. She also does not like the Gauss Barrel on it, saying it does not fit the gun.

I like also the Ninja and Paladin have the scabbard for their weapon too, at least in the new ones.

I'd be down with this. Can ASTs get an option to turn off their stupid duel deck, too, without hiding the star globe? I hate the "card scabbard" or whatever it's called; I have no idea why it was implemented because it just looks bad IMO.

The AST card holder is literally just a recoulered version of the original... But the colour always goes well with the weapon you have, while MCH lunchbox stays the same, which is kinda lame. I'd like for them to at least do what they do with AST's card holder but with MCH's lunchbox.

Yeah, I mentioned that I support the OP, just figured I'd condense a little QoL wish of my own into it too in case a GM is reading. It'd be nice to have a toggle for card scabbard kinda like the GB toggle, is all.

As both a functional and visual change:

Scrap the Gauss Barrel model, change it to Gauss Mode, and add lights, or perhaps change the color of the light on the aetherotransformer so that people know it's active. If it's a concern that people would not know if it's being used, I would cite things such as the Monk's "Fist" stances, Cleric Stance, and Wanderer's Minuet, which all are vital stances for their jobs but don't carry any extra graphical models that detract from the weapons or aesthetics of them.

Pfft, Just give us a small quest that has the MCH change the 'cover' on the Aether Converter. Same internal hardware, different box.

Be a bit like changing phone covers back in the day :P

As for the Gauss Barrel, There is no reason we can't have the lore reflect that the core of the Gauss Barrel can be placed into a different outer shell for aesthetic purposes. In this, it's similar to an ASTs card holder or Bards quiver, The external appearance doesn't change the function of the arrows or cards stored within. The base function of the Gauss Barrel would be handled by a specific mechanism at its core, with the outer shell merely an interchangeable protective cover.

I just use the /gbarrel command. Unfortunately, it only affects what I see, but all I really need is the buff to know it's active....and well, if I don't notice the buff on/off whether or not if I'm casting my ws is a pretty surefire way to know my gbarrel status! lol

I'd rather not have gbarrel or aether converter than have them the way they are currently. They just feel like they were tacked on last minute during the MCH design. The barrel doesn't match most of the guns stylistically, hell, it doesnt even line up properly with a lot of models. The converter is static and boring...I'd hide it in a second if I had the option.

At a minimum, both of these items should be looked at for any weapon whose tooltip has a "blue" or "violet" background.

I agree with this, it's so unnecessary for ast to have that card thing on the side, the cards are already circling the globe.
For mch I just want an option to make gauss barrel invisible like they made paladin shield invisible or some kind of visor or something to make it invisible...

I'm pretty sure you've got bigger problems if you're running content with people that actually care enough to notice that attachment on your gun.

I feel like if they really wanted to treat MCH to a steak dinner, they could maybe redesign the animations of Split/Slug shot. Both are practically the same animation which is raise your arm and shoot

... Gauss Round too if we're going for lobster.

I feel like a large turnoff of players from MCH is the iffy animations.

I think it has to do with more so how hard it is to get high end damage from it. Like my friend has been obsessed with MCH and likes the play style but feels like she is being carried in groups because the damage she outputs is not up to her standard. This is even multiplied by the fact she has a lesser geared blm that can have large gaps over her MCH.

I know she is trying as well, showing me all these rotations she finds that leads her to make improvements. On blm on the other hand she does high end damage with it just as long as she learns fight timings to keep enochian on. Even without it she can outdamage average skill level dps. On MCH if you slip up one little thing, she ends up dead last.

I completely sympathize with your friend, mch damage is so frustrating to understand. Even 2 years already it's only been the last few months that I started getting the most out of the rotations.
There's so much pre planning for mch compared to almost all classes that I've played (I've played almost every class).

One advice for your friend is to not be afraid to use all or almost all her buffs before going for the big damage bursts with the reload rounds. So like use blood for blood, hawk's eye, and raging strikes before or during the big damage rotation. Sometimes I save raging strikes for when I've used all the rounds. Anyway just wanted to share that bit since I know how harsh playing a mch can be. You do more work than any dps class and the result is sometimes kind of low. I know mch is used in many raids now because of their burst damage (there's a lot of adjust/mini phases in savage raids) so burst is a good thing. But in regular content blm and even archer have better consistent damage, but mch can keep up (if you follow strict rotations).

Anyway I hope for stormblood they simplify mch by a lot. I know they wanted to make it complex so it's not like bard but for the FUN of it please simplify mch or add new gadgets so it's more different from bard. But really they need to do to mch what they did to smn from ARR to HW. Merge a lot of all that preparation into other skills and remove the % chance to trigger a bonus on next shot (this isn't fun).

And yes glam is end game, please remove gauss barrel it's ugly and ruins all guns.

She does well with wildfire, she is usually top with it and a lot of times gets close to pulling hate when it blows up. She had the "2" for a long time when we did niddy today for example when doing trail roulette.

It is the downtime and how to reuse wildfire is the issue. Also once doing light farms on a1s her friend kept asking how much the wildfire did on this one run. After she found faust.. (I think?) took 19k damage from something and guessed that was prob it, the other friend says " yeah it is likely, (my friend) hit 5k dps when that wildfire blew."
