New servers are great news. How long the downtime will be is unknown yet.
Makes sense if they are going to cross server chat and market board.
Per Reddit live thread it is suppose to happen in may and get an upgrade.
Just saw the live stream moving the servers and upgrading them. This is great this will probably fix the level 3 lag that can happen at prime time. There was a lot of US players who had issues with the routing to Canada. Maybe they will move them somewhere in the central US, maybe like Texas.
I have no routing problems to the current servers so I'd rather if things stayed the way they are. A consistent 250ms is better than an unstable 200ms...
thinking 200 ms or 250 ms is good....
200-300 ms is good only if your are talking about us to japan or Australia, my friend always complains about that and how the server response was a lot faster and better in ffxi then ffxiv, lol. level 3 limitations i suppose....
I am glad they are being moved and upgraded, badly needed
Believe this is the closest example as to how long it might take. http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodest...517b1c4e5233c3 The EU Servers seemed to be down for 2-3 days so we might be down that long as well.
At least it is happening before the expansion good time to move them.
Sounds like a great idea to me.
Do you think with the server upgrades we will eventually get more quality of life and character customization changes?
Fantastic news!
Great news for NA players. :)
A bit off topic, but do you guys think this was payed by Mog Station profits like the EU data center supposedly was?
Does not necessarily mean they are moving out of Montreal. SE gets a lot of tax incentives in Quebec. Some one with more knowledge could probably rule out if Montreal would have some where else they could move and still meet upgrade.
What would be optimal is having two one for each Data center a East Coast and West Coast one. The designating them NA east and NA west.
When the servers moved from Japan to Montreal, Canada I saw no benefit from the change and a con of less international players.. so actually having a pro (greedily for myself) would be nice lol. To also add appealingly is that it's both a move AND an upgrade~!
(Am west coast player).
I didn't mean now for 4.0. I should have worded it better. I mean in the future after all the servers are upgraded. They said one of this issues was the servers can't handle multiple options, i.e. faces. I was wondering, if they are working on upgrading all of the servers, does that increase the possibility that the graphics with improve down the line.
I like how no one is talking about this, since its only been requested for ages, but those i280 weapons, omg they break the game.
I'm glad they're doing it, I just hope it solves the problems I've been having with their network for the last... expansion.
This is the part where the jaded part of me becomes afraid it's going to be a data center under the sea or something.
"We're moving the data center."
"I see."
"To Sandford, Gloucestershire."
"To where, sorry?"
Yoshi was quoted back in 2.x as being unhappy with the NA servers so this has been a long time coming. At the PAX speech he was clearly not upset to see them going as he said (paraphrased) they were old & unsuitable. I think I recall heavy hints in the past that the inventory expansion is due to new servers (all three Datacentres will now have up to date equipment). Unless there's an increase in latency or a decrease in stability it can only be a positive thing.
This is great news.
Just so I have some context, where is the NA server currently?
I am not going to be excited till I actually get more information or see it happen. If the data center location is not going to be inside the US in the near future, I don't see anything good coming out of this, if that's the case we are all better off leaving these servers in montreal. I think only time will tell, looking forward to that 72 hrs downtime in the middle of may :)
It does not matter, you missed the point. 200-300 ms is too high of a ping. That is the point, unless you going full circle around the world, it should not be anywhere near 200. The game is laggy as hell and groundbreaking in pvp, so sick of it, hope this changes all that. If you think you see no lag with 250 ms, there is something wrong with you.
Canada, and most people, even me, have to pass though level 3 to get to it and that seems a high amount of the problem is that, along with server processing speeds.
I'm not going to rejoice for this just yet.
As an East Coast player, I've noticed a lot of times that servers will go straight to the West Coast and usually ping begins to hinder my gameplay. Even with the GCD, I can imagine worst case scenario that it can mess with my reaction time and as a consequence cause me to screw up mechanics, at least with other games.
Like someone said, I'm all for this if gameplay will be better for more customers.
If it means we no longer have to route through Level3, I don't care where the new data center is.
Servers have feet now ?
I'm terrified for this move :( I play from the the UK (Europe) and have a nice stable 86ms on most days so naturally I don't want that to change.
But at the same time I am fully aware that the servers are designated NA servers so they probably want to do the most for players actually in that region. I wish I had known all those years ago that one day the EU servers would actually be moved to Europe and I would have moved to those before making friends/creating a FC/buying a house etc, but yeh...
So i remember something like this happening back on FFXI, will we lose a few servers as they get merged or will this just be an upgrade of the servers?
Like i'm on Lamia, will i be put into a new server or something?
My guess is that they will move them to Chicago or Dallas to get the best coverage and if the EU move was any indication, we should prepare for 3 to 4 days of downtime.
Edit: The only kind of mergers I would be interested in seeing would be to make a super server where they merge the entire Data Center into a single entity. As things are setup right now though, I don't see that happening as Idileshire would nuke a majority of systems. Soo... that kind of merger wont happen due to PS4 limitations... PS5, please look forward to it.
