Uber rating system for mentor

- Allow participant to rate mentor performance after mentor DR runs
- Allow to upvote/rate mentor for helpful advice in NN
- fall below 4 star status = removal of mentor status
- inactive of mentor activities in DR/NN = removal of mentor status

Give better rewards for higher requirements such as 10% discount forsub fees

You want to weed out some of the bad apple mentors? Remove any and all rewards for being a mentor. Sure there will be some that will keep the crown as a status symbol but with no rewards to gain from it you'll likely see an increase of real mentors that just simply enjoy helping people.

I'm a mentor and I think this, I also don't have the mentor roulette unlocked simply because there is still content I need to get cleared to unlock it. I became a mentor because I enjoy helping people not for the rewards that are given, up until I darted seeing the mentor posts I didn't even know there was rewards because there wasn't any rewards for being a mentor in ff XI

I believe there was a huuuuge thread about this before. The OP there wanted a grading system based on DPS/amount healed/etc. Did not go over well. Wasn't for mentors though but it still has a grading system.

Mentors can be rude. Sprouts can be rude. Randoms can be rude. I don't do it for the rewards. I do it because I want to help. I know that's not everyone's goal, but there you have it. The grading system can be easily manipulated by someone who didn't like you. Removing the rewards is fine, but there should also be a system when you report a mentor to have someone thoroughly examine the evidence against the mentor and take action against the accuser if they were doing it out of spite. For instance, I asked a tank in Amdapor Keep HM to put a buff on every once in a while because I noticed he hadn't used any for the few minutes I was watching him. He went off on me and called me a bunch of names, and if he had the power to I'm sure he would have reported me just to take away my mentor status. I don't want to give these types of people that power.

Don't know mechanics? Ask me. I will defend you if we wipe on a boss and you say "Sorry guys, I'm new to this dungeon." Simple as that.

Uh..you shouldn't have meritocracy system for mentors. It encourages the wrong mindset, you shouldn't be nice BECAUSE the system forces you to, you help players because you understand that everyone had to start somewhere, even yourself and that helping people will have a ripple effect. If this was implemented then I'd rather not be a mentor, even though I've been really nice and helpful (I craft for free with my own food & I explain mechanics if wipe occurs,etc), because the trolls you've seen so far in the forums would give you a poor rating whether you're good or not.

Also it is very tiring, there were times where I've saved the parties and play well but I don't receive commendation yes it gets demoralising but so long as it does not have a permanent impact I'm fine, grading system WOULD have a permanent effect. I don't need commendations or a grading system to determine whether I'm a good(not talking about skillwise) player.

Speaking of Ubers did you know there are people who gave drivers a bad rating because the customers refused to pay? Point is it defeats the purpose should you be at the mercy of a system that is base on the integrity of players I would only agree to this if 100% of the FF players are righteous, morally right people that can do no wrong in their judgement then Ok by all means.

Since people who use Uber can be rated by Uber drivers as well and eventually loose their ability to use Uber does that mean Mentors can rate sprouts?

What would be the consequence of that for the sprouts? hmmmmm

Seems like a better idea just removing the mentoring stuff. It's being abused for personal gain and not helping new players as intended.

I really don't see how Mentors would abuse a reward system like this, I find the players to be more abusive towards mentors in this situation. Like tying a carrot to the end of a fishing pole.

Let me explain in further detail. See, this suggestion is basically the commendation system but for mentors. Well, most players don't even commendate anyone at all *cough* "Nobody deserves it!" (sarcasm). But seriously, if players already don't take 2 seconds to commend someone, (some even with some really ridiculous requirements to even earn a commy at all); then the players are unlikely to take the rating system for mentors seriously. If anything, mentors would have to try harder to please people if they wanted to get those rewards. So I think the players would abuse mentors more in this situation. "Hey you want a good rating? Than become my b****" Not everyone would be like that mind you; but it would happen.

This would rely on people:
a. not just max starring to get the window out of the way
b. not just min starring cause they didn't like someone


I still think the easiest solution is for devs to just swap the crown for a "less desirable" icon. Tree? Watering can? Literally anything other than a crown would have worked better.

There are numerous mentors that are solely doing it for the rewards gained from it and the OP is saying better rewards should be given, he used getting 10% off your sub cost as an example of better rewards.

You honestly don't believe ppl won't abuse the mentor system for the rewards?

These new/returning players ppl also run into that are rude and such to others, eventually they'll be a mentor going after the rewards given and probably still being rude and such to others. You want to encourage new bad mentors with rewards for being a mentor?

Honestly I think a watering can would be a perfect icon for mentors, mentors sharing their knowledge with new and returning players helping them to blossom.

I want to be able to rate the other people in the duty, then. Did they accept advice or politely decline? Did they use profanity when I gave a recommendation? Did they inform me I don't pay their sub when I asked them to use a vital skill or ability? Did a 20 minute run take forty minutes because they spent most of their time auto attacking and keeping the chat window full of vitriol?

Let's be realistic, there's absolutely nothing that SE could ever add or do that wouldn't be abused. The most they can do is design it so that it can't be as easily abused, but it always will be regardless. I've seen the toxicity on both sides. in mentors and non-mentors alike. I've also seen good mentors and good non-mentors alike. The problem is that people want to punish all mentors for their experiences with a certain few they have encountered. I also can't tell you how many times I have seen new players ask me how they can become a mentor because they feel they could do the job better. Personally I think people put to much weight and value on this fictionary crown. For example, I am a mentor myself and I have choosen to take my crown off because of harassment from non-crown wearers. People accusing me for telling them how to play the game when I am just trying to help. Saying I don't pay their sub and more. Eventually I just gave up trying to deal with it. It was more stressful than it was honestly worth. If they added new and better rewards attached to the crown, then I might consider going back and 'sucking up' to the non crown wearers to get said rewards. Especially since people take my advice more seriously without the crown than with. So until they add better rewards, my crown is staying off. I don't feel like dealing with the hostility over a little icon beside my name.

:) sorry i hate when people spread this. when 99% of the time it is because "mentors" force feed people advice. rather then going "hey x, want tips?"

How did you help? did you start the conversation off with "hey x, want tips?" if the answer is no... you are at fault. Force feeding "advice" is socially rude. It is telling someone how to do something in what can be seen as a negative way.

make this a thing, it would be cute. we have sprouts, flowers... why not a watering can or a sun icon? it fits the theme.

You're completely right there will always be ppl that will abuse things for the rewards from it.

I say remove the rewards for being a mentor completely, also change the 'King crown' to a watering can to signify a mentor 'nurishing' sprouts.

I keep my mentor status turned off that way I can help ppl and mentor ppl without the toxicity towards the crown while still being able to see what's going on in the novice chat and answer questions there too.

I always say "may I offer some advice?" Or something super neutral like "you might want to ____, because it will _____."

But thanks for assuming my tone or the way I approached it was the issue! I'm a pretty low key person and it's very hard to piss me off. Before I ever signed up as a mentor I was helping others out.

A certain percentage of the player base has been, and continues to be, super defensive and hostile toward the mildest advice no matter how it's put forward.

No. We already see some mentors using the system simply to gain achievement rewards. We don't need to give another tool for the general player base to abuse.

Mentor said something you don't like? Downvote!
Mentor provided good, but unwanted advice (use straight shot before your dots to help increase your DPS)? Downvote!

Yeah, I don't want to lose my mentor status for actually doing my job- helping people- and being lucky enough to get someone on a bad day and wanting to take it out on me. Western players are entirely too prideful and would rather bring an entire team down than to accept humility and improve.

Why stop at mentors? Let's extend this system to the entire playerbase. And if you get too many downvotes for any reason, you just get the ban hammer.
