For me, I would say 8. There's honestly not much to say.
For me, I would say 8. There's honestly not much to say.
For me its a 6 .
Some good things but more things i see as bad in the long run.
2 new areas is nice but how the msq will use it.siming is nice for the first time then what.
Lots of development in the wrong places.
Your topic earned an eleven from me.
A whole lot of the same. Two new classes to do all the same content we've been doing with the same weekly caps and the same dailies and the same... everything.

SB is the same as ARR and HW which is what i want, the same game with new stuff added.
job wise there is no one specific job i want so any job added is a plus to me.
content wise i love what we are getting now its always nice to see some story reason to go back and explore a old area and see new parts of it even if its only alittle.
new primals...i mean who doesn't love summons and at this point we have done all major summons people have cared about and only have the less known/seen ones. (the more we do the more likely the one you really want will show up)
new continent i mean come on look at that map! they got a goron mountain feel going with the garlean place and a whole big area hidden under clouds and the new area shown!
actual maps seems like we are getting plenty to roam sure we will explore it all but that is all games too much to bleh and too little is bleh too so with them being like HW i think it will be pretty good
also i forgot to mention swimming/diving seems pretty fun.
Talk about glass half empty. Most people would probably ask "how excited are you?", but okay.
I'm really hyped about Stormblood in general, and the fact that we're getting a whole new continent to explore is great. I can see where they're going with this - we get to take back the rest of Eorzea and Othard now in 4.0, and in 5.0 we'll advance on Ilsabard in a pincer movement.
The footage from the new areas, particularly Kugane, looks great. I can't put my finger on it, but it looks cleaner and these "lighting engine enhancements" that were mentioned in Vegas do seem noticeable, but it's hard to tell on a 720p stream. Overall, it looks like we'll get larger areas now that the PS3 is dropped and the minimum requirements are raised a bit. Raised furniture limits is obviously great, and I think they're doing the right thing in pushing people to 64-bit (which honestly should've been a thing years ago).
Only thing I would've wanted a little more insight on would be the battle system revamp, really.
So to answer your question, it's a 1. I'm not disappointed at all.
@Karis
You need to understand both sides of the spectrum. In your case, you like battle content, which you will always get. For people like me, the minority that only focuses on crafting content, playing the market board, glamour/character content, this doesn't exactly make a huge appeal, ya know? As you know, the expansion falls short in that, which is why I give it an 8.
Imma say a -8. Which is to say I'm not disappointed at all and am in fact quite stoked! As much as I have grown to love Dragoon, I'm getting the job I wanted from the very beginning, all the way back in 2.X. It's time to hang up my spear, take up the Katana, and be the gloriously obnoxious Power Ranger meme machine I was always meant to be! Plus if I want to tank, I can get back to WAR and hop on the Fell Cleave brigade and STILL out dps bad players.
You keep being salty though. Your butthurt sustains me.
0! I'm not disappointed and I'll dive into the content with fresh and open mind. :)
I'm excited to see the new areas and excited to get immersed into a new story!
Its still a very loaded thread title.
Frankly we are missing a lot of details so honestly I can't tell you if I am disappointed or not because we have only a very broad overview with very little details. I intend to wait for those details before I decide if I am disappointed or not. Just because they haven't given details yet doesn't mean there aren't any. We only began to find out details like that about HW during a live letter a couple of months before HW. Likely it will be the same with Stormblood.
Really at this stage unless its about the location or the fact there isn't any new tank or healer job saying the expansion falls sort is pretty baseless.
Anyone expecting a massive over change in design philosophy was kidding themselves. There hasn't been anything to indicate they plan anything like this. They have in fact said that while they want to try new things they think it is important to continue to provide what people are expecting.
The Fanfest Q&A was a huge bummer, so I'd probably rate it worse right now while that's still fresh.
Maybe like a 7.
It is definitely true that they haven't said anything of value about crafting/gathering, which has been pretty stale throughout Heavensward. I've only dabbled in it myself (I have ALC, CRP and BTN at 60, planning to get BSM and MIN to 60 before Stormblood), but the crafting endgame has been overly convoluted and grindy, in my opinion. They need to make it more accessible for those who just craft for themselves and their friends but aren't looking to make an economic splash across the server. Getting told "get them all to 50+" is a huge turnoff as an aspiring crafter, because it's a time investment that is hard to justify as someone who also deeply enjoys the combat side of the game.
So, I understand your point somewhat. I just think that there's so much more that they have said regarding other parts of the game that is worthy of excitement.
That which doesn't evolve and change simply stagnates and dies. ARR will be four years old this year. In four years, they've made no major design changes of any kind. They add or remove or adjust tiny things here or there but don't even attempt to do anything that could change anyone's actual gameplay for the better. Whether it's out of fear, laziness, or an apathy for this game when they have so many other titles to spend resources on, I couldn't tell you.
To be fair, what's disappointing is that, and I mean no disrespect; you refuse to be logical and see both sides of the story, but choose to be one sided judging by your post.
The expansion simply doesn't contain what I and others were looking for, not everyone is looking for the same candy bar with a different wrapper.
I mean they're judging news that has been released officially, many people were hoping there would be many changes throughout the foundation of the game, that sadly isn't entirely the case. For instance, the weekly lockout and only two classes this expansion, these are things people can legitimately point at and say they're unhappy with. They're two huge reasons in my eyes that might make the expansion a little less desirable in the long run, does that mean I'm totally unhappy, no. But is there plenty new to off set those revelations? Yes there is.
What's up Trunks? How's life treating you after that Zamasu incident? Oh wait, what's that? You're NOT from the future and don't know a damn thing about how the expansion's gonna turn out? You're crying over the tip of the iceberg because you didn't get some feature you wanted? Real bummer there. Tell ya what, I got some popcorn here, and you seem to have plenty of seasoning. Can you help a sister out?
There are things I really don't understand..."It's lame, we had no new race" or "What ? No info on the hairstyles ?"
Why does it matter ? Races do absolutely nothing in FFXIV...they don't matter...at all.
And hairstyles ? This is FanFest, where they reveal future content, new gameplay elements...and people are upset about hairstyles ?
Maybe they should have registered for Fashion Week instead of FanFest...
For my personal appreciation ? I'm thrilled ! I really didn't expect a whole new continent to explore, an area apparently as big as Eorzea itself. It's still way too early to make a final judgment, especially considering we'll receive lots of new infos in the next months, with the purpose of keeping us on toes while we wander around in the same content over and over.
I'm not disappointed by any of the stormblood news, but I would have liked to know more about housing transfers and how many wards will be added. I guess I would give it a 2/10. In other words, I'm very excited.
It matters to me. I hope viera will be added in the future.
Okay, so, by your logic, all the things they've revealed showing that they're doing exactly the same thing they've done for 2.0 and 3.0 is somehow not an indication that that's exactly what they're going to be doing.
Blind fanboyism isn't a good look on anyone. At least you're funny, I guess? That's endearing.
1. New areas! (Sounds like heavensward again)
2: New primals! (Sounds like heavensward again)
3: New alternative to flying....SWIMMIMG!! (Sounds like heavensward...again)
4: Instead of 3 jobs....you get TWO!! And guess what?! They're BOTH DPS! (Sounds....worse than heavensward)
5: New housing district! (Sounds like heavensward yet again)
Where's something much more new and fresh for people who have had to endure two series of the same content? (2.x and 3.x) Why not more customization? Even just 3 options would be great. Why not something brand new for crafters and gatherers? Why not add something unique to glamour?
The only two things that impress me is inventory space increase and PS4 Pro patch. I love FFXIV, but this is also the reason I play Black Desert Online on the side.
I'm a bit disappointed as they mentioned no new races so i was thinking maybe they were going to improve character creation or increase polygons for characters but nope. Nothing.
What things that they've revealed? They've shown us two jobs, a new story setting which includes a whole other continent (legit did not see that coming), some new bosses, a travel mode, a raid theme, and??? That's only scraps, friend. They haven't even shown us the real meat of the deal which is the class changes. We have a whole 4 months to go before this thing, and they haven't even closed off the 3.0 story yet! We have PAX coming soon and I'm sure there's loads more after that.
You know not to judge a book by its cover right? If it gets here and it sucks, fine. Get your "I told you so"s and "BTFO"s in and go to WoW or cry about XI or something. But let's cross the bridge when we actually get there
By her logic, fan fests are pure hype machines and we don't have any real substantial information yet, and that is intentional. Fan fests are by design just flashy trailers, major content reveals like jobs, zones, and raids, and a chance for fans to interact with their game. We got the announcement of "major battle changes" and very little clarification about what this means, and that is intentional. There are other events and the media tour to get the concrete information, and minor things like hairstyles and glamour.
Normally, I'd be at a five. I don't want to get my hopes so high, it's impossible to make me happy. After the SAM news, I'm jumping to a 7. It really bothers me it's yet another DPS. I'd be really happy that it's 2 new regions/cities/main bases, but it's prolly gonna be another Rev Toll and Idyllshire. AFK town.
i can see how disappointed you are, but from your previous posts in your thread you seem to want everyone to be as disappointed as you are. not everyone will share the same view
that said i'll give it a 4/10. there are some things i find meh but i will stay positive that what they've shown us so far isn't everything that SB would offer :)
You had been in the future and already played the expasion. Ok. I want your time machine too.
We barely know anything about expasion. They didn't show anything to make conclusions.
It would still be only cosmetics. You have gear with hooves or bunny ears already in the game, just mirage them ;)
You're right, we have plenty of time before Stormblood is released...and that's exactly why they didn't give us all the information. We have something to look for for the end of 3.x, we have something to look for at PAX...and I'd hardly call what we get "scraps". Two jobs, the names of the new raids and a whole new continent is a lot.
Everything I've seen of Stormblood blows away Heavensward, at this point. Heavensward gave us Dark Knight (should've been a DPS), Machinist (least fun class in the game), and Astro (can't really comment. Cards are neat, but eh). Stormblood gives us Red Mage and Samurai. For me that's a significant edge to Stormblood. Ishegard is icey, bleak, and dreary. Seeing Doma alone makes Stormblood look way more appealing. Omega potentially seems more exciting then Alexander. Ivalice could be pretty amazing (I love all the 24 man stuff though).
Newsflash. If you actually expected a complete overhaul of some kind that's completely on you. They have their formula and it obviously works.
Also the OP does indeed come off as salty. Let's not pretend otherwise here.
How i see the expansion? mm.. Idk about 1-10 but in words..
"They'll come back. They always come back. Please look forward to it."
I guess im probably around a mid 4,5 or 6. I like the thought of sword dps, and we get 2. I wanted other features i didnt get though, so that sucked. Old combat bored me to death in 4 mans and im really looking forward to knowing the combat changes. I think the lack of "unique" content could be enjoyable if they at least fix the older content. Like the gates on everything possible(beast tribes, tomes, timed gathering nodes, hunts, leves, etc) and increase the speed of combat to anything other than a crawl. (When people can play and watch a movie at the same time, game speed is too slow imo - i have fallen asleep on accident playing 4 mans) I actually think doing the older raids and dungeons would be much more enjoyable if i didnt have to lose most of my skills and spend 10 years between each boss fighting monsters that arent even hard, but just huge hp sponges and better reward scaling for your unsynced level.(if you have to sync to a level 27 in totorak and be punished for being higher level for "balance," at least give better exp/gil rewards)
There are some things i do like though and im hopeful. but not expecting too much. Gathering without monsters bothering me sounds amazing. Cross class was stupid. New housing looks cool and is fresh.
Holy cow this thread is moving fast. :|
A) Calm down, meme machine, I'm starting to see steam.
B) Cool, they've told us we're getting new gear, new areas, new bosses (specifically 2 primals, a tiered 8 man raid, and a LFR-esque 24 man to be added in between raid tiers. Sound familiar?), 10 more levels, and a change to how we get around in those areas. These aren't "features." They're a skeleton without meat. Without those things you wouldn't even have an expansion at all.
When your "hype" is the exact same "hype" you've previously had for an expansion which turned out to be exactly how they were hyping it, then how is your consumer supposed to expect anything different? 4.0 is being painted as 2.0 and 3.0 in a different shade.
The only indication that they're even trying to be innovative is the extremely vague "battle changes" which we've been given no information on. It's the only thing giving me any hope that SE actually cares about this game as anything more than a cash machine with which to invest in their other endeavors.
@Telos
Well, you seem to be one of those people that like the same candy bar with a different wrapper. So, let's say that in 5.0, it focuses heavily on glamour, customization, and crafting; very little to do with battle content since you seem to enjoy that.
Let's not pretend you wouldn't be just as "salty."
Did you watch the live letter? Crafters are getting Zhloe content, which will branch out and expand into a major piece of content in 4.0. There is also Eureka, new underwater gathering, and more unique stuff that you have failed to acknowledge. We haven't even see half the information, and you are ignoring half of what we HAVE seen, and shooting it down while you are at it.
You seem to think that these things are equal on a fundamental design level, when they are not. You can't make an expansion out of glamour and customisation, because these things are rewards, and people already feel strongly that this IS the major reward system of the game, as gear does not hold value. As for crafting, I wouldn't mind seeing an expansion that focuses on crafting and gathering, it would be cool to see how they cater these things to the masses and make them relevant. The problem with this is metrics, in that a very low percentage of people actually dedicate themselves to crafting and gathering over battle content, and it is seen as a side profession to battling, and focusing on it would turn a large portion of the playerbase off.
Let me assure you that you will get new DoH content in SB, the dev team didn't focus too much on the collectable/scrip/aetherial reductions system, but these were brand new systems that changed the way that crafting and gathering worked (for better or worse) and I can see them having just as much if not more new content in SB.
