I really would like the option of using crossbow, short bow or long bow because of its attributes and not just because of the aesthetics. A ranger should be able to have a weapon choice for speed or crit or for long versus close combat with supposedly better crit chance etc.
Shoot if they put in SAM i hope they have it so that they equip 2 different weapons. A 2H katana which would make them a tank job called shogun. A Katana and Wakizashi perhaps for Samurai so that way they can dual wield. (Im a huge fan of dual wielding)
For example Dual weps for jobs that can use single handed weapons. Nin has it by default but make any other class have it as well. I use to love having PLD Dual wep in FFXI Burtang (mythic) and Excalibur (relic) yes. versus maybe be able to equip some minion to give traits. As an example. Kain minion , give a stat boost to Jumps or enable Jump x # per instance....I want a Kefka minion !!!
If the multiple weapon options end up giving different stats/effects, I can totally see people figuring out that one is absolutely better than the other, and everyone end up asking for the ability to glamour one weapon type over the other.
That'd make the system of different weapons having different stats/effects or affecting playstyle like someone mentioned earlier kinda pointless though. Might as well leave the system as it is and just add different looking weapons (though that'd require them to work on different animations depending on how different the weapons are), make the different types of weapons purely aesthetic.
my suggest with bst more the two different weapon weilding for other ff games
i just thought ranger would look cool with crossbow
Wouldn't mind seeing a class that makes use of Ioun Stones as a weapon. I just don't think Final Fantasy has ever had a class close to that, unless it was in a very obscure title.
Clubs, Axes, Hammers, and Scythes all currently lack classes as well. Unless we want to cross off Scythe as a DoL weapon. A job for Rods/Wands/Scepters wouldn't be bad either. CNJ/WHM and THM/BLM both make use of them in early levels but moved on to staves it seems.
How bout dual wielding staffs? i know blm often cast with 1 hand even tho the weapons suppose to be a 2 hander.
Honestly, I'd love to see the next physical ranged DPS use a cannon or a bazooka. If physical ranged are getting cast times on skills, then may as well go for broke and make it at least seem like those cast times equate to suitable damage.
I'll state up front I don't expect Blue Mage to be added to SB, that said I hope when they do they give the class a paintbrush as their weapon...... I already have the hairstyle unlocked.

You know, going back to that Ioun Stone for a weapon idea, I wonder if they could make something like that work incorporating the idea behind Espers and Magicite with the Twelve to create a kind of Cleric/Priest class?
I rather see blue mage hold duel scimitars first ffxi the blue mage wield these as part of they character.
You would need those hobs to be added before asking for their weapons lol. Maybe in 6.0
I'd really love to see a class that uses fans, or a big two-handed smashy mace, or dual-wielding small pistols (okay I just want spellslinger lmao).
Wouldn't mind seeing a class using Fans either. Maybe an Illusionist kind of job? Between Glamours for armor and weapons, Glamours used by Voidsent for disguises, and Sylphs using the same kind of magic to skin change and all, it seems like a class that'd have a decent grounding in the setting, lorewise.
dancer use fans that be interesting
Non-Ridged Weapons would be cool: Whips, Meteor Hammers, Chains etc
I know in the old 1.0 Data mining they did find hints of a whip user. Quistis!
Only thing I hope is they never introduce gun blades that the player can use... such a stupid weapon.
Switching out weapons with others like Bow for Crossbow would be cool. Just remember that each additional weapon adds a cluster of new animations for each race/gender. It is doable just expensive, and I know their team is not terribly big.
Warhammer using Viking class, because Blunt weapons are very VERY limited currently...
The problem is OP is that our classes are weapon focus. so using a crossbow for a Bard or Mechanist would be taking away from future classes. Classes are very much weapon focus that it could ruin the identity of that class as well.
To twist this discussion I would like to see job focus weapons in design. 3.5 Anima did not do this for most classes and it was concerning.
Yoshi-P did hint once he would like to make the weapon restrictions more lax (ie 2 hand axes dual wield axes etc for war) but it might be a while before they do something like this and it would more than likely just be aesthetic. I could see it happening for no other reason that it would give em more headroom for art assets though.
crossbow would for ranger is that would be a future job. i not planned on give it to bard or mach
as i believe that whip should bst job though in ffxi bst use a hand axes and sheild
i also think be cool have dancer use fans
no two weapon per job
