Handguns

Dear Square Enix, could we get more hand guns now that we know there is a basic model for them? And could we also get the option to holster our guns on our back, and side? You've done a great job with making Machinist more appealing, I hope to see more pistol type guns in the future. ^^

That's the musketeer guild in Limsa. The logo is of a hand gun. It's still there actually if you head over. In 1.0 i think the area was much more detailed and you even get to hold a hand gun in the 1.0 story.

There is the GARO gun. Its really tiny and looks outright like a plastic water pistol.

And its holstered on the back, adding a humourus, although mostly unintended, effect.

I'd like to see more...but I think we need to see Gauss Barrel removed first. It just doesn't look good with most, if not all firearms regardless of their size. Same with the ammo case clipping with gear. Being able to hide both but keep the gun out would be wonderful. I'm also aware that you can hide the gauss barrel at the moment but that, sadly, only applies to one's own perspective rather than everybody else's too.

Instead of outright removing Gauss barrel id like to see customised barrels for each gun. The idea of having a floating magnetic field to accelerate bullets is novel, and i think it'd be a shame to dismiss it cause it looks weird.

Oh, i thought you were talking about the double barreled handguns limsan guards seem to wear. My bad.

Iguess we will get more now they add this one. But I think the Makai one is a bit too tiny. Like 20-30% bigger could be perferct.

Personally I'd rather just see it gone, while custom barrels for each gun would be nice (I could see the makai pistol with a silencer for example), that would be a lot of work both to retrofit and to add to every future gun. On most guns the thing we have just looks wrong and I'm sure most people opt to turn it off with /gaussbarrel anyway. My friend the other day said to me "why does every gun you use look so stupid?" I didn't understand what they meant, then I remembered, /gaussbarrel doesn't turn it off for others so she could still see it.

I'd prefer to just have a casting animation like BRD's minuet. And for us to just get an aiming animation like they have rather than stupid gun dance. Just change the name from gauss barrel to scope or something.

Every single BRD bow get a unique Quiver. I dont see why MCH's cant get the same treatment for their accesories. Same for the lunchbox, i'd like more varied versions of that please.

Now we got a handgun I'd like to see some handcannons, such as a massve Desert Eagle. We got a Revolver or two of absurd size, so why not?

Oh, and also an option to hide the aether thingumajig on our side.

FFXI's Corsair (a ranged DPS job that had a 'Dice' ability similar to AST's cards) had a hand cannon as their Mythic weapon "Death Penalty".

No thank you, no *more* handguns than we already have with the gun toting Machinist job. If I wanted to play a crappy first or thir person shooter I have plenty of options. Personally I really dislike guns in general, and in the case of FFXIV, I think that handguns are not something that needs to be come more common than they are already with Machinists.

How about a job that uses crossbows instead of a handgun? At least keep things with the fantasy feel I mean, who wants some mob gliding past on their bomb palanquins carrying out a drive by shooting in Eorzea, do we not already have sufficient problems as it is?

Not to argue against your point, but there ARE fantasy games/movies that have guns. I don't believe it's reasonable to think Earth (or "reality") is the only place guns can be made and/or exist. Other than that, I agree. Not a fan of the mch class whatsoever.

I expect that they will introduce one more 'gun' using job when gunblades become a thing, but I really don't like the idea that FFXIV could become more gun based.

Meh, I doubt we'll ever see gunblades as a weapon we use. We'll get some replicas for glamour, but nothing actually functioning as such.

Always had the framework for a gun-toter already with the musketeers, but that's something still left to the void as well.

Revolver or the Wanderer is basically an enormous Desert Eagle with a revolver cylinder (because everything in Eorzea is top-loaded apparently)

Think the game could use some slick assault-rifle designs tho. + lunchbox/gauss barrel alternates of course.

My understand is that it is to do with coding. The quivers of the bows are technically part of the weapon's model from legacy code while the Astrologian and Machinist accessories are possibly tied to the jobs' soulstones. The Gauss Barrel is actually a status effect which makes things trickier.

I believe the original plan was that each firearm would have a unique GB but coding restrictions made things more difficult than the dev team wanted them to be.

Play more Final Fantasy games. Fire arms or firearm-like weaponary has been pretty common in games with a similar style to FFXIV.

I doubt we'll get a crossbow job, but that's like saying we'll never get a two-handed sword job because Braver and Bladedance are already in the game.

Maybe once they make the Gauss Barrel look less horrible on most guns and not just have the option to hide it for yourself.

With the GARO MCH gun, that thing doesn't even touch the gun...

In any case, FF games such as VII, VIII or XV are set in pseudo modern settings with more contemporary technology. Eorzea is a fantasy setting more in the line of traditional fantasy setting with swords, magic and bows. Guns other than gunblades already feel out of place to me. Although the fact that the gun user in this game uses guns with a more vintage, fantasy style rather than a modern aesthetic keeps it from feeling wrong.

I dont think a gun like this would ruin the already established steampunk theme this game also has going for it. I agree, modern hand pistols should be kept far far away- 1700's handguns/blunderbuss's are more than welcome.

But i must say, i very much dislike the GARO gun. At least its so small i barely can see it.

What about FFVI? Fantasy setting with technology sprinkled in very similarly to FFXIV. The world is more of a steampunk place than not, and you can't have FFXIV without that considering the Empire is completely about technology. We have airships, turrets, elevators, guns, missles, magitek armor, entire bases with switches, chemical processing, etc. I suggest you get used to the technology because that's the setting this game has, not medieval fantasy.

And lasers and visual interfaces and cloning devices and robots and mechas of various sizes and gunships (both small and big) and genetical experimentation and teleporters...

Allag and Garlemand are a thing. Chances are, FFXIV is going to get progressively more "modern" the closer we get to Garlemands core.
