In-game voicechat

Will we ever get in-game voicechat, not in general but for instances (for 24 mans, just your alliance) Since a lot of problems we are getting is lack of communication when doing new content or hard content, eve with PvP, the feast is frustrating with it's current communication methods, i believe voicechat in-game would fix this.

You could have an option to mute others, and if you don't have a mic, you can still communicate via text, it can be restricted to instanced parties.

I cannot be the only who feels a lot more can be accomplished with direct communication through word of mouth, it's faster, say a mechanic is coming up that you forgot, someone could call it out, whereas if they were to type it, it might be too late, or they might make a mistake while typing.

Just my thoughts, what are yours?

There's no point in SE wasting time and resources on a low-quality built-in voice comm when there are plenty of good, free programs out there such as Discord.

I've been advocating for an in-game VoIP for ages. I get the usual "but why, when players already use ts3, Discord, Mumble, etc" from folks. So whatevers.

Maybe the devs share the same view. Maybe there are bandwidth technical issues. Maybe there are technical rules the console manufacturers have in place. Maybe it feeds into the dev's paranoia that it would be used 99% of the time for harassment. Who knows at this point.

But from my perspective, they should put one in anyway. It would provide the game with a consistent baseline VoIP that could unite all current and future platform support, instead of console players reaching for their smartphone app or the console's party chat.

Maybe the quality won't be as good as the third party VoIPs are nowadays, but it certainly wouldn't hurt.

Might be a good idea to add it to the Q&A live letter thread they have going on at the moment. They are gathering potential questions to ask the devs.

Yoshi specifically stated he didn't want an in-game voice chat because of harassment and also harassment specifically towards female players. VoIP harassment can't be recorded, therefore, you can't report a person and have evidence.

Discord, TeamSpeak, etc, are 3rd party tools and are not Yoshi's responsibility(he can't stop it either way) so it's fair game there.

And I agree 100% with Yoshi. Public voice chat is almost always very annoying.

Literally no reason to port voice chat through the game's servers. Use a third party voice client.

Considering what SE pulled with the Feast, I highly doubt they are open to allow more communication options

Have fun with that.

I doubt we will have in game voice chat for the reasons stated above.

If you want communication in a learning party, the leader might have a channel set up for training.
Or I ask when joining if they are communicating through voice and willing to share their channel address or not.

Considering the very multilingual playerbase on Chaos, and my assumption that everyone would just jabber on in their native language with no regard for their fellows, please no.

And I also think Yoshi has a decent point regarding harassment etc.

World of Warcraft had a system (recently reinstated, though never used) As soon as people saw how bad and unreliable it was everyone went back to Vent or Skype. Nowadays it's Discord for raid party chat.

There's also the possibility of exclusionism happening. Either with people that don't have mics or even the disabled. I have a friend IRL that plays this game and is deaf. You'd not believe the amount of people that would not raid or even do EX primals with him just because he can't get in and hear/do call outs. Worst part is, he rarely ever messes up his mechanics.

No thank you. I don't want to be forced into voice chat in game. There are great free programs you can use for that if you need it. Don't force it on everyone.

We can add it, but I want to be able to disable it cus I already am in Discord with my friends. Plus the idea of trying to hear 24 people during Dunscaith or any other content just sounds horrible. Random crappy music put to the mic, kids crying or screaming, that person who won't blow their damn nose (away from mic!), that girl/guy who thinks this is a try out for American Idol (or whatever show in your area). Would pass on it all.

Did you know WoW has an in-game voice chat? No? Not surprising really, day it came out it was a joke, It was choppy, low quality and was drop my the community in a heartbeat. I can't think of a single person willing to use it unless they have a crippling fear of downloading Skype, Teamspeak, Ventrilo, Discord.

My thoughts? Download an actual voice chat program.

If SE were to add voice chat, it'd be missing crucial features and just generally suck until a QoL patch a year and a half later. lol

LotRO had a pretty decent in game voice chat that only worked within parties. You could turn it on or off as you see fit, use it with our without a mic so you can just listen if you wanted workout having to talk... It was actually pretty decent and (for the most part) was generally used for ours intended purpose of helping raid. That being said, if you didn't have your mic connected and wanted to use voice chat, you had to completely closer the game, connect your mic and start it up again. Using a specific voice chat program allows a little more flexibility, Ann's also allows you to talk to people even if they can't get in game, so I think that along worth the reloading issue makes an external voice chat more useful.

We already have 3rd party applications that do just that and something the game would hinder. In-game voip has typically been awful,I like crystal clear voices, not garbled robotic ones.

Adding my perspective from when Destiny launched this feature four or five months after the game's debut due to player demand. During that time, everyone began using PS Party chat outside the game.

When they finally launched in game chat, no one used it because the people who played together were in party chat, and wouldn't leave it to get on voice comm with randos.

And when we did join the chat for pvp with randos, they were idiots and jerks who didn't listen to strategy. So, not much different from not being on chat.

Seems like general voice chat tendencies across different gaming platforms/games lean towards friends/party only chat because no one wants to listen to some random player's music blaring over mic, trolls, kids yelling/screaming (either in the background or the player behind the character, because some parents...), edgy hardcore elitists who've been just dying for an opportunity to throw their snark over voice instead of just chat, etc.

Seeing as we already have Skype/Discord/TS3/whatever for said friend-only chat, I doubt you'd see much usage of in-game voice on average. Instead you'd probably see an increase in usage of the phrase "Get on voice" and/or the addition of (|Please use voice chat.|) and (|I'm sorry, I can only type.|) to the auto-translate feature. ;p

Everquest2 also tried to make an in-game voice client. It was also terrible.

I would prefer a voice service from a company that is dedicated to just that. They are pretty much useless if I can't make out the words and have to ask in (text) chat what everyone is saying.

The last thing I need is 23 strangers yelling at each other. Keep it to text.

Remember Warcraft's In game Voice Chat? They introduced it, realized it was Garbage and never fixed it. Because it WAS Garbage. Just use the MULTITUDE of other, more reliable voice chat systems out there.
