If we were getting any sort of new race option, Viera hybrid or otherwise, it would have been announced at one of the last Fanfests AND most likely would have had already have a character related to Stormblood around to represent it.
This isn't to say nothing will happen for the rest of the game, or even that they really are waiting till the EU Fanfest for it. But its very unlikely for 4.0 at this point.
On the topic of hybrids though...if Hyur/Elezen is ever introduced hopefully there will be more options to make them more...Elezeny I guess would be the word. You could lie to my face by calling Hilda a Hyur and I'd believe you because there aren't a lot of differences.
Mi'qote/Lalafell seemed pretty popular around the time people were wondering if the Mi'qote orphan in Iydlshire was such.
To be fair the story wouldn't treat it as if there were suddenly a lot of them around. Male Mi'qote are still somewhat rare and aren't running around in nearly the numbers that players would have it be if we counted all of them. Same with ALL the Au Ra players, more so in 2.0 content.
Hybrid race options don't really make sense lore wise. Hybrids aren't impossible obviously (although some combinations probably are) but they are extremely rare, rare to the point that we've only met one after traveling all over Eorzea.
A thousand hybrids suddenly appearing in Limsa would be silly.
It could be funny if it was explained away lore-wise as a "fad where people mess with their genetic make-up using a strange potion in order to make outlandish combinations of the races."
I mean, it's not like this sort of thing doesn't happen in Japan...
I hope not.
New races are a waste of development. Takes too much time fitting gear. Why would i be excited for a feature that requires me to pay extra to access it on my main?
There's precedence for them giving players with active subscriptions Fantasia potions when something like that releases, and it wouldn't really be a new race per-say, I'm guessing it would be implemented in the background option such as Midlander and Highlander for Hyur. This way they could just be slightly altered characters with the same sillhouette, meaning that you wouldn't have to do a ton of gear fitting for most of them.
With HW there was no Fantasia.
If what you want is pointy ears i will still object. Why even have differing races if you get to mix and match as you please?
And any race mixed with lala or roe would be way too creepy. Unless what you want is the races more humanized. Which imo is bad for diversity. Roes with cat ears? Au Ra without scales? I dislike the idea.
And besides. Mixed races in the lore are currently rarer than the padjal. And the reason we dont get to play as those is due to their rarity.
If we absolutely do need a new race, at the very least make it original. Dont rehash what we already got.
I thought Miqo'te already were a hybrid between Hyurs and a common house cat.
Lalafell are a mixed breed between Hyurs and a popoto - No wonder they had to be lab-created by allagans.
And even Au Ra are probably a hybrid between a desperate Hyur and...some scalekin.
What if there is no new race because there is no actual need for one? Au Ra are still a minority with Hyurs being the most created. Au Ra didn't blend with Eorzea very well either. They used the wild card of "out of this continent and rare to the bring of extinction race" to justify them. It worked but the card was played and you can't keep adding new races and use the same excuse to justify them. There are also some lore implications. Design wise Au Ra came out as weird teenagers with lots of clipping issues. They were not that different from Miqo'te. Just different tails and angry faces. Then there is the things devs said that Japan doesn't like beast wild races and prefer them beautiful so there is no real oxygen for a beast like race. They also said they did what they did with Au Ra in order to make them fir into current armor models without heavy modifications. So why the heck we keep asking for what we already have? Unless it's something really different there is no need to add more Migo'te with slightly different colors and tails. I still prefer more customization in current races. Those generic 3-4 faces in premium sub based MMORPG makes me sick.
The issue i have is that i feel that it is a bad thing to have to pay more than normal, to experience an expansions content on my main character. This game prides itself on having a One-in-all kind of gameplay, which is broken by adding races without at least one free change to the new freshness.
If the game was more alt friendly (a la WoW) i'd be fine with it. In those MMO's you are required to play more than one char if you want to experience the full show anyways with the alliance/horde split. In ffxiv there is no such noteworthy split aside from certain NPC's having minor changes in dialoge.
*cough*Khloe*cough*
I think there is no new race because we just got one with 3.0 so wait maybe 5.0
What the point? All the character models look the same. There's hardly any variance in the geometry.
Oh, lets take a Hyur, give it the miqote tail but with a reptile texture and add scales and horns. =.=
I much rather they add more faces and body features to the existing races.
Adding a single new race with any significant variation from the existing races would essentially be an expansion in itself for the Art team because of the hundreds of gear items that would have to be updated to the new body shapes. This is why I am not expecting anything more than a new race with a tail / face / height changes in the future.
What if the reason why they don't implement hybrid races is because...
it's an incredibly boring idea?
The warrior of light is treated as a solo entity, created by hydaelyn. This can mean whichever form she deems appropriate. This isn't like wow where a race needs a decently sized populus for them to be lore friendly
Not really true
All character models are based off the hyur male (it is used as a default), just proportioned and animated differently. Do the /flex emote, you get stuck in the hyur male default pose for a second no matter what race you are. That's why they don't have to re-adjust the gear on new races.
Maybe say that in the first place then. :P
People didn't buy CE for a Fantasia. If you want to argue that the base game should have included one: cool, I have nothing against that argument. But there was a version of the game that came with one, which is what I was pointing out vs no Fantasia whatsoever.Quote:

Hmmm... Au'ra and Lalafel hybrid... The only sure way to make a potato look more menacing is to give it scales and horns. >.>
If that were true, we would have had this "secret" character many patches ago. Unukalhai actually does remove his mask at the end of the Warring Triad storyline.
He's just a young Hyur child from the Void. Nothing special.
Then why do you keep recruiting us for raids and primals?
'Hybrid' races are exceptionally rare in this setting. It wouldn't make sense for their to suddenly be a huge influx of half-elves or the like.
Instead the focus should be upon expanding the customisation options for the existing batch of playable races. Any 'new' races are likely to just be slight tweaks of what we have already. We're unlikely to get anything that isn't just a Hyur with slightly exotic features. At least if the existing options are expanded we'll end up seeing more popularity for the more neglected playable race/gender combinations.
The developers simply realised what a terrible concept gender locked races were. Furthermore all of the original races were already well established within the setting. Au Ra weren't but at least they came from Othard - somewhere we haven't seen in-game yet. With that said, though, they ended up being less 'bestial' and more like the other existing races. Which led to many people finding them to be rather lacklustre.
That doesn't really change the simple fact that half-elves have already been established as rare and heavily shunned. Elezen exist, Hyur exist - just expand the options available for both races instead of wasting development time on what will essentially just be a Midlander model with Elezen ears stuck onto it.
Thankfully this setting takes itself seriously enough that dumb combinations like Roegadyn/Lalafell hybrids won't likely ever be a thing either.
Maybe in 5.0 we'll get a new race. Who knows? It's not a priority when the existing races are in dire need of additional customisation options and representation.
None of which are incredibly rare, unlike half breeds, and in particular half-elves.
In summary: spurious argument is spurious.
I would be seriously annoyed if they eschewed a new race idea for some silly half-breed. That said, I'd welcome new customisation options for existing races.
