First I would like to thank Yoshi-P and the XIV Team for all their hard work.
I can't imagine how difficult the task is of re-envisioning and re-coding a game is.
If not for their efforts XIV would probably no longer exist.
14 in it's current state is still not what I would expect of a launch ready mmo.
At the same time, since most of it's current player base (which I don't expect
to grow till 2.0) already obtained at least 1 level 50 by 1.19 and more content is being
developed for 50 solely because of this, it really means not much content from 1-49
You have a hand full or two of 30+ nms, one 30 dungeon, and the joke that is the level
10 dungeon. I don't know anyone that cares about this content, and honestly why should
they, they're 50 already.
Even the 50 content is at best a distraction, their are no long term goals or rewards.
Ifrit is a good example, it's a fight you can spam every 10-35 mins and has a horrible
drop rate. So it will be ran till 1.20, then we will have better crafted weapons, and
better weapons from the moogle fight. This quick turn over rate of content doesn't
make for a good long term game.
And I honestly expect to see stuff like
level 49 axe 113 dmg,
level 50 axe 250 dmg,
at least under the current "every update must have better gear" system.
I know Yoshi and team are working their butts off, but I think they need to
look at giving players some long term goal oriented content like dynamis,
and slow down on the spam and discard system that is the primal and
dungeon content we have today.

Even though we get to keep our characters' progression when v2.0 comes out, the game is going to have completely different content than what we are playing now. Anyone looking at this game objectively should see that everything we are playing now has a date of expiration. There is no guarantee that the drops from the primals/dungeons will even be obtainable post v2.0 launch (v2.0 primals might have different drops than the ones we can obtain currently.) This means there would be no reason to make any "long-term" goal oriented content from a developers stand point because it would only last for a year before possible deletion. The best thing they can do is make enough content to hold people over until 2.0 and spend most of their resources developing the content that will make it into the finished game and remain for years to come.

We're not getting content any faster than what they've told us. There's nothing we can do, it's futile.
Either wait a few patches to play or wait till 2.0 (and then wait for the content that comes AFTER 2.0 in the PDFs).

I'd love this game to succeed. I actually enjoy Ifrit's fight now that I don't die like 6 times before he Hellfires.
But I doubt 1.20 is going to radically change my impressions of FFXIV to the point where I'll believe it's launch-ready and worth a subscription fee. My planis to pay for the month the patch comes out then quit for the 2 months until the next patch (or at least that's my plan) I may just eventually say screw paying for that 1 in 3 months too eventually. -

The reason they're adding low/mid-game content is for new players and eventually PS3 launch. Who would want to even stick around to 50 if there's nothing to do at those ranges? In order for this game to become even mildly successful there has to be some content to keep players going at least until their first 50.
The Primal battles most certainly need to stay, if nothing else than for the sake of the actual story. You know, the 7th Umbral Era storyline that ushers in the changes for 2.0. All those words that flashed across your screen before you accepted those quests. That one.
I can agree that we need more long-term goal oriented content, I don't think anyone would disagree with you there. However they are in a state of completely changing everything about the world. It would be one thing if all they had to worry about was balance and content. They've got sweeping changes to worry about though, which spreads the dev team thinner that most. -

Who said moogle weapons were going to be better than ifrit weapons? They could just as easily be the same in attack, but with different stat and element bonuses, making them situationally better.

For example, Batraal weapons could have been better, and been more time consuming to obtain like through a token drop system that is traded in to an npc. (yep much like they are doing with prime fights)

No one's ranting, and I don't recall seeing anyone bring up the lack of long term goals to any of this short term content. and not holding my breath for a dev response.
