At work and bored. Was doing some reading on FFXIV, read almost all of Yoshi's postings and interviews (via the sticky on this Forum). Read most of the topics... laughed, then visited xiv.pads.com to check out my status... then I glanced over my profile, saw my birthday and started to ask myself questions. Then decided to post it here to get some thoughts from other players.
I am not sure if this topic was discussed before. Nothing important to me, again, it's just curiosity and boredom.
Here are some of my questions and thought about this subject.
1. What does name day/birthday do? or what's the purpose other than knowing it's your birthday?
2. How do you know when or check when your birthday is coming up? or How do I read the days? I know it's made up of moon phases; 1st Sun of the Astral Moon, is that like the 1st of a certain month? lol....
My thoughts:
1. Would be nice to know my birthday so I can celebrate... or know others so I can cheer them on.
2. Be nice to get gifts from SE on my characters birthday... or an XP boost or something.
Anyways, just a random thought... and wondering if there was any more info about birthdays or name days... BORED.

The original team had plans for it do....something. I can't remember what they said.
Long story short, it doesn't do anything, and will probably be removed in 2.0 -

I've just never heard Yoshi-P mention anything about it. I'd imagine its just a relic of the old regime.
I could be wrong though, he could have a secret plan for it. who knows. -

It was part of Tanaka's ff14, since we're being ushered into the Yoshida ff14....
...it will likely disappear with Old Eorzea :( -

Aw dont say that, I like the idea of birthday/nameday (whatever they want to call it) and the diety option. It gives it the FF Tactics feel to the game, I just wish the idea has somewhere to go and IS NOT scrapped @2.0 :(

Each God does something and it was going to help you on with that. There one god for DOL which then help you be little better at it then anyone else that was the idea from the old team who knows what yoshi-p would do with it like other said it may be gone.

1st astral moon is January, 1st umbral moon is febuary, 2nd astral moon is march, 2nd umbral moon is april... and "sun" is each day.
So, for example, my nameday is the 8th sun of the third umbral moon. This means mine is the 8th of June.
Also, each month has a given guardian. For June, it's Oschon the Wanderer. -

This one's kind of a clusterf**k, but I do recall a discussion about it. Back in the day this discussion took place, Square Enix was still not really doing or saying anything that would admit, "Yes. We sold you a game that only had 10% of the content it was supposed to have and we hoped we could patch more in before you were ready for it."
The effects of Guardian/Nameday were among the things not in at launch; and compared to EVERYTHING ELSE we were missing, they weren't a priority for addition, either.
Their bonuses were simple. EXP boost, unique buffs, little gift from your retainer or moogle or whatever gave you your mail. Guardian had a unique part of it that wasn't part of the discussion, though.
Also keep in mind that time passes differently in the game. You'd be having a Nameday every 18 days, 16 hours.
(This is how long an Eorzean year lasts.)
Yoshida's plans as pertains to abandon this or not? I doubt he'd get rid of anything that'd make you feel closer to your character.
