Wind-up Moon Minion

Before I proceed, I've have to give credit to the minion design team for all the excellent work they had done all these times. The amount of effort put into creating the minions and the flavorful tooltips is really brilliant. With that settled, I'll also need to give thanks to the minion team for making my request in this thread come true with patch 3.5.

Everything is perfect except for one thing, just one thing only.

Pray tell, and pardon my language, how the **** is this the shape of the moon? Like, seriously? :mad:

I understand the teams have their workload stress and stuff, it's fine even if they don't create a crescent shape model from scratch, but at least get rid of the "sun ray" and make it into a full moon shape please? As of now it's more of a silver sun than a moon really.

Update: For those interested, you can get the Wind-up Silver Sun minion via trading in a Hi-Elixir with the magic pot NPC at Western la Noscea, X12, Y36. (Elixir for the original Wind-up Sun minion)

How do you get the sun,I mean moon?

A Moon minion that comes out Sun shaped, feels to me as a reference to "Sun and Moon".

They should have just made it crescent moon shaped...

Well. That just totally killed my imagination of finally having a minion to match my astrologian in terms of something from the night sky like a moon or star. I was imagining a crescent, not a sun clone with a moon label slapped onto it :(

Hah, I just saw this one the game just now in Quarrymill.

I remember that thread, commenting something along the lines of, "yes, please! Make it happen or I will summon Cthulhu and rain death". It appears I may still have to access those scrolls :|

Maybe it's a bug and the trainee did not add the good minion :p

To be fair... A sun IS actually a star ;)

I agree. I'm fine with it not being a crescent (in fact I was not expecting to to be - a full moon gives off more light, after all) but a moon should not have fiery flames coming out of it. O_o

That'd be fine too. Just chop off the flames. Honestly in all the sun and moon art I've seen so far, only some suns had them. The moons never did x.x

I just wish they were mobile like other minions that follow you.

same place as the sun one, from the magic pot around isles of umbra. You need to give him a Hi-elixir for it.

To be fair, alchemically, the sun and moon is often a shared symbol (wherein the crescent is tucked into the sun). You could argue you're still seeing the moon even with the sun shape, just that its luminosity is now the dominant.

Sure, doesn't pass off the quick re-colour/new lighting rig cross over, but is anyone really surprised?

The wind-up Sun/Moon are "special" minions in that they're more meant to be screenshot tools. Before /gpose added easily customizable light sources, Wind-up Sun was the only way to create an additional, height-adjustable extra light source for screenshots. It's also why they don't follow you and why they are the only minions to disappear when you hide the HUD.

Moon may not be named super literally, but it's meant to be a softer light equivalent to Sun (which moonlight is), so I struggle to think what other name would've worked.

It can be a moon if you BELIEEEEEEEEEVVVEEEEEE hard enough.

I understand, but the minion teams has been making high quality work all this time so I can't help but feel that they fall short on this one. I'm no 3D modelling expert, but if they find making a crescent shape difficult (maybe the lighting effect), surely they can make a sphere shape without the heatwaves?

They are designed that way as a screenshot device. Disabling your UI also removes this and the Sun minion so you can have a source of light from where you want it.
